I believe Scott Porter was the original beatboxer for Voiceplay. Also, when Geoff drops the B0 sub every reactor gets big eyed even if their brain doesn't register what they just heard.
I love your analysis so much. You and Peter Barber are the ones I always look to for your Voiceplay reactions because I always learn something. I can make my own astounded face when I hear them, I don’t need a reactor who only does that. Keep doing what you are doing.
I'm pretty sure Cesar hits a B7 when he goes up at around 11:30, you can hear this ridiculously high dolphin tone if you pay close attention. I haven't heard anyone but Dimash do that ever. Incredible stuff
Actually he slid from a B4 to a B5, which he only sang for a split second. You may be hearing a B7 in the reverb overtones because I picked up on that too
I'm not a gamer, so I had never heard of the game or the music. Didn't matter, it was breathtaking. When Voiceplay did Hoist the Colours, I thought that Cesar was a little over his head in the belting. The way he moved and positioned himself, it seemed like it was a definite stretch. Then this came out and I realized I was wrong. That doesn't happen very often, of course. Whatever he was doing in that aboriginal section was just amazing! Eli, with the high high note, Scott with the lovely baritone, Layne's gorgeous beatboxing, and Geoff and his scary lows. All fantastic. The composer of the Halo theme watched their cover and left a comment saying it was legendary!! Great reaction, Jen, looking forward to tomorrow and your next Voiceplay week - or maybe a Geoff week!
Totally enjoyed your analysis and reaction here. I especially liked your discussion of breath when referring to Geoff's supporting and sustaining the B0. I once had a voice teacher tell me to never take a breath. Taking a breath is a tight-shouldered upper lung-filling thing which doesn't allow good support. She said we should RECEIVE the breath like the gift it is, filling the lungs from the bottom up so we can easily sustain and support anything we sing. It really stuck in my mind and really helped me with my breath control.
I am pretty sure that VP and HF make each other better and make each other think outside of the acapella box all the more. WE are all the benefits of that. It's even better knowing that both groups are made up of just good people. Respect, respect, respect.
It's a shame that groups like Home Free and Pentatonix are signed to major record labels and have teams of musical arrangers, managers, agents etc. It has obviously done wonders for them commercially but it means they have very little say/input in what they do (Tim Foust said in an interview that HF didn't want to just do country stuff, but were forced to by The Sing Off and are now kind of stuck there). Voiceplay are totally free and independent so they can do anything they like as regards music styles, arrangements, videos, guests etc which is why they are so much more varied and innovative in their musical arrangements and videos.
@@rosswhite5975 I agree. From a couple of their chats and interviews as well as comments from other fans, I get the impression that for the Sing Off VP was also pressured to get the female singer and fit into a nice neat little box. I do think that Home Free is fortunate in that Tim does a lot of independent work as does Austin. They manage to still do some individual work which I think probably keeps them sane. Although I am not a fan of country music, I always check out what Home Free has done. Not e erything they do is so “country” that I won’t listen to it or put it on a playlist. They are so talented and I think they show as much creativity as they can within the confines of a record contract. The work they do I can connect with. I used to enjoy them but anymore it sounds sort of sterile. Very commercial and not so artistic. (Before I get any PTX hate mail, I do realize that this is purely subjective. Art is in the eye or ear of the beholder. But I also know that I used to enjoy them a lot more than I do now.) I’m not a musician - I don’t have musical training but I do know what grabs me. @@janetdw yes, pentatonix are kind of what i always thought of acapella music as. Great singers recreating popular songs. Which is fine and impressive, but ultimately (for me) a bit pointless and not something I am going to listen to more than once. Whereas VP, with stuff like Hoist The Colours, really opened my eyes to what acapella can be, if you throw out the old rule book and do something really creative and clever. 13:40 Also, with subharmonics, it's very hard to "waver" unintentionally without getting kicked out of the register... so there's that too. For example, very few people are able to put vibrato on a contra-octave subharmonic (Bass2Yang is one of them)
This is the kind of song that you need to listen to straight through first, and then go back and pick apart. It’s so fast paced and the momentum is important
So glad I’m not the only one who has trouble with octaves that low. I often think it’s lower than it is. You stopped it at the E1, but then he dropped to a B0 sub (it is definitely B0). Also, it’s more obvious in this but Geoff really has worked out how to sound like a stringed bass instrument-hard onset, often with some slides. So cool. I really love Cesar’s voice when he’s belting/more connected -and I’m so impressed with the way he used his vibrato in that solo. You have to go back and check out their cover of “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder!
Jennifer, I made it to yesterday's live stream and I tried. I really did! But the streaming comments were distracting me. I wanted to focus on the song and your reaction/comments. Also I like to be able to stop and go back on my own sometimes! So I just dropped off and am listening to it now the next day. I guess the live stream concept just doesn't work for me. 🤔 Anyway you seemed a bit wrecked at the end of this one. 😁 Just so much going on! Quite the video production to say the least! Great reaction/analysis Jennifer! 😊
Hey 😁 that is absolutely fine!!! Thank you for taking the time and coming back to check it out!
The end of this makes me think of their friend ascending to heaven. It's just beautiful.
You should react to Joe Diffie's 'Ships that don't come in'
This is iconic and so well #subscriptionsquad request Jen. Please react to Citizen Queen's version of Killing Me Softly or Senorita. There is so much for you to analyze and react to from this all woman A Capella group.
Their ‘Killing Me Softly’ is up on my channel 😊
@@JenniferGlatzhofer thank you, Jen. I don't know how I missed it. Senorita is great too
Please check out Dream On by Voiceplay
It’s a cover of the song from Aerosmith and they do an incredible job!!
HALO is cool but his girl is fantastic, 伊卉儿Katty . She has the voice of an Angel. I just made a TH-cam channel with her music and will keep adding great videos. Why not give her a reaction? /Olaf.
Caesars vocals solos make me think African chant
PLEASE REACTION “CAKRA KHAN COVER IRIS” he’s an Indonesian singer ,
PLEASE REACTION “CAKRA KHAN COVER IRIS” he’s an Indonesian singer..
While I love the editing in the video, I have to point out that it's mostly copied from pentatonix rendition of sugar plum fairy which won a Grammy
Could you react to more annapantsu videos ?
And you didn't honor the end
No surprise for being a B0?
I'm sorry you look like vanesa carlton😳
Way too much pausing imo..dunno how ppl can enjoy music like that
She's analyzing nor enjoying in this case. That's another type of enjoyment I guess - geeking out on the vocals.
