Nathan's awkward laugh at 9:30 just to hold his tears... we've all been through that, precious moment!

Loved your reaction ❤️ to my fav. artist and one of my fav. songs of his 😘. This was so much fun to watch because Jane seemed confused at times. Love that you take interest in your husbond’s taste in music, and that you loved to see your partners joy of this song, That’s so nice 😊. Maybe not the best song to start with :) if you dont like/are familiar with SW/Porcupine Tree. But I really appreciated your reaction 😊. Greetings from Denmark.

    Ooo, OK.
I'm going to delay viewing this.
I have heard very little Steven Wilson; basically if y'all have done Jana Reacts to Porcupine Tree, that's what I've heard. So no Steven Wilson solo stuff at all. Except...
Jim Newstead just uploaded the full album side of side 1 of Hand. Cannot. Erase. Which I found to be lovely and lush. He plans to upload sides 2-4 over the next few days.
After I listen to the whole album along with Jim, I'll come back to see Jana's reaction to this. If Jim hadn't started the album listens, I would have done a first listen along with Jana. But since I am experiencing the entire album for the first time, I think it best I hear Ancestral in its intended track order, nu?

Great reaction - I remember hating this the first few listens, I just didn't get it - it's now one of my favourites and that solo! Makes my brain melt and my smile wider than should be possible.

You should have done Routine with the animated video... that brings everyone that watch it to tears. Ancestral is amazing though.

with SW and Porcupine Tree generally speaking the live versions are even better and in this case Live at the Royal Albert Hall is absolutely outstanding so also recommend Detonation and Song of I from there

Recommend Luminol as the ultimate SW Jazz prog-rock song. AS someone else commented, try 'Routine' & 'Raven that Refused to Sing' but you need to watch the videos and have tissues to hand

Really , really enjoyed this track. My first time as well listening to Steven Wilson / Porcupine tree. A great introduction for me , and as an old school prog fan who likes the heavier side of things , never quite sure what to listen to first. Thank you and thanks again. Loved it. 👍

From what I understand having just done a first listen of Hand. Cannot. Erase. is yes. It was inspired by the facts surrounding the death of a young, vibrant, 38 year old woman in London named Joyce Vincent. She died, and although she had family and friends, apparently no one noticed her disappearance for over two years.

Just finished doing a first listen to Hand. Cannot. Erase. over on Jim Newstead's channel, which Ancestral is from. As Jim describes it, "an absolutely sublime" album. There were parts on sides 3 and 4 which started to lose me, more because the sound became heavier, or leaning more towards what I think of prog metal. But, on Ancestral specifically, the sound segues in to a more blissful, almost ambient sound, and I was drawn right back in through the end of the album.
I'm writing this prior to watching this. My prediction is Jana, like me, will appreciate this perhaps through the first part of the guitar solo. That sort of has a Comfortably Numb solo feeling to me. But, I suspect she may drift off, like I did, during what I think of as sort of a Radiohead section. I can't predict if the more ambient section which follows will draw her back in, like it did me.
Now to watch and see how accurate I am.

Love your selection Nathan, I am with you all the way, I think Jana needs a little more convincing. Sure she will get there in the end. How could you not.

Hand. Cannot. Erase. is the fourth solo studio album by Steven Wilson. The album was released on 27 February 2015 through Kscope. The album was recorded in September 2014 at AIR Studios, London, UK. The album is written from a female perspective, and the concept and story are inspired by the case of Joyce Carol Vincent, where a woman living in a large city dies in her apartment and no one misses her for over three years, despite her having family and friends.
“The basic story, or concept of the record - it’s about a woman growing up, who goes to live in the city, very isolated, and she disappears one day and no one notices. There’s more to it than that. Now, what’s really interesting about this story is that your initial reaction when you hear a story like that is, ‘Ah, little old bag lady that no one notices, no one cares about.’ She wasn’t like that. She was young, she was popular, she was attractive, she had many friends, she had family, but for whatever reason, nobody missed her for three years.”

Nathan, it wouldn't be a standard Jana Reacts, as I'm sure a full album side, let alone a full album, will be on the list. But with Jana's love for musicals, is there any way Jana could be convinced to do a first listen, by album sides with album artwork, story, and lyrics in front of her, of Jon Anderson's Olias of Sunhillow? I'm biased, as Olias is my personal favorite album of all time, but I honestly believe with the artwork, story, and lyrics that each side of the album may captivate Jana. Heck, she may even decide to listen to both sides in one go!

I'm a prog fan with a pretty wide range of bands I love, from pop-prog to highly technical prog metal. But I seem to be allergic to Steven Wilson & all his side bands. I've tried for years, several different albums. But this is the one prog artist that leaves me cold every time. The newest albums where he's doing pop & dance music are unlistenable to me.

I would suggest Deadwing, Fear of a Blank Planet, and Hand Cannot Erase.
If none of those albums catch your attention, then Wilson just may not be for you.

@@TheAlibabatree I've heard all those albums and they did nothing for me. Plus "Grace For Drowning", Blackfield & a few others. Wilson is not for me. Good news is there are plenty of other prog-rock bands to listen to that move me.
