The drummer is Marco Minneman and Guthrie on guitar and Brian Bellar on bass have a band cslled The Aristocrats. CRAZY MUSICIANSHIP. Their song called Furtive Jack..awesome
Hi. New to your channel. The bass is a Chapman stick. Basically a fret less played by Nick Beggs who used to be in Kajagoogoo in the 80s (Can you believe that?). It’s an absolutely amazing track and one of the most popular reactions on my channel. Wilson is an absolute genius and my most favourite artist of the last 20 years. All the best Dave✅✅
Steven often plays bass while Nick Beggs plays the Chapman Stick( the tapping instrument you saw) .The gutarist is Guthrie Govan. You really need to do this whole album, as well as Hand Cannot Erase. I also am a fan of his solo album Grace For Drowning... very jazzy. " Remainder The Black Dog" is excellent.
Nice reaction. The is an ensemble of top musicians. Guthrie Govan is a known virtuoso guitarist and the keyboard player, Adam Holzman was the musical director for Miles Davis for years; perhaps that brings in some of the jazz influence you hear. Theo Travis is a well known prog saxophonist and composer. The Watch Maker from same concert is also a must. Another great piece (also live, this time in Mexico City) is Raider II, a 22 minute masterpiece. Cheers!
The weird bass is called a Chapman Stick. I have one. You essentially tap it instead of plucking notes, allowing you to play with both hands. Half of it are bass strings, half are guitar and they go into different amplifiers you can do different things with them effects wise.
That instrument is called a Chapman's Stick. Tony Levin also plays one of those in Liquid Tension Experiment, which is an instrumental band with him and three members of Dream Theater. I'm going to have to recommend their song "When The Water Breaks" because it's one of the best prog instrumentals ever.
If you liked that one OPH, I highly recommend Ancestral from Stevens Home Invasion Live at the Royal Albert Hall 2018 DVD! Absolutely awesome! Keep up the good work spreading the word that is the genius of SW
If you want more modern day Jazz fusion, I highly recommend the collaboration (members from Haken, Between the Buried and Me and Cynic) Nova Collective. My personal favorite is Cascades, but you really can't go wrong with any song from their only album The Further Side.
Thank you for recognizing the Jazzyness. - The good side of Jazz, where things still make somewhat sense. (There's a "bad" side of Jazz, don't get me started...)
"The Watchmaker " love is a MUST!!!!The whole Raven That Refused to Sing album is ghost stories, and that song live is magical

First time hearing this one as well. I like it very much. Thanks for the reaction.
Pretty sure that is a Chapman Stick you're commenting on. 😎

This entire album is a progapolusa of great music.
I am soooo lucky I saw SW live on both Raven and HCE tours.... BY FAR the best two concerts of my life....

The liner notes on the CD/DVD Drive Home says live tracks recorded at Hugenottenhalle, Frankfurt, Germany on 23rd March 2013. Great Vid!!!

Many of my favourite artists are jazz inspired, but I rarely enjoy actual jazz xD
chapman stick -- the thing you taught was a "10 string base".
Unfortunately, Everton will be driving you to drinking on recent form.
WILL be? Hell mate, that started years ago, lol. Thanks for stopping by!
