Where do you find these gems? I am former Navy and drive truck. I have always loved anything military. I would love to have a collection of those trucks myself.
Besides having fun do you use any of these trucks for farm work? I got an uncle that does deep woods logging and he just bought 3 HETS this year and retrofit them to logging trucks.
I AM not very familiar with all of the military model #'s, is the engine in the truck you driving the same as the M35a2 six cylinder multi-fuel engine???. Thanks for sharing! Kind regards Eric Dee
The NHC-250 and 6CTA Cummins is used in the M800 and M900 5 Ton Trucks. The older M50 5 Ton Trucks had three different Engines such as a R602 Gas from Continental, the Multi-Fuel from Continental/Hercules/White,and the EDNT-673 from Mack. All of those Engines compared to the Multi-Fuel last a long time. The Multi-Fuel used primarily in the Deuce, regardless of what Verison, because there were several 7.8L's,isn't a long lived Engine, they last a estimate of 60,000 Miles most of the time. You would be way more costless with a M35A3 having the 7.2L 3116 Caterpillar. The Multi-Fuel is known for issues with the Turbo,Heads,Gaskets,Seals,Injectors, and Fuel Pumps, mostly.
So question, other than the crazy amount of fuel a 5 ton probably consumes if you get one that's in good shape with low mileage are they mostly inexpensive to maintain?
stuart morse As far as a diesel truck, yes they are relatively inexpensive to own. If you looking for a good one, make sure it has a good set of tires, that's the most expensive wear item. Everything else isn't too bad. If you don't get power hungry, transmission, transfer case and axles should last a long time. If you want more power, expect doing some form of transmission upgrades.
The M923A2-M944A2 all have the 6CTA Turbo Cummins with 240 HP and 724 Pounds of Torque. The older M923-M944's built by AM General had the NHC-250 Naturally Aspirated Cummins. The M923A2-M944A2 was built by BMY Harsco.

***** Nope not planning on doing any if i get one.
***** how much could you get one for on Ironplanet?
***** It says they start at 2500 but I'm just wondering how much they usually end up costing at the end of the auction.
For a nice one without a front winch, 8k-12k. If it has one, add about 2k. It mostly depends on location and season just like any vehicle.
