Starting your own perfume brand? I host my online store with Shopify: shopify.pxf.io...
The one drawback with your fabulous channel Sam , is that you cannot smell these creations, this one in partic is interesting
Yes it’s a shame
Went out and bought Amber Shadow so that I could smell as I watched! Great, unique scent that does exactly what you say it does. Great to be able to smell the individual notes as you talk about it and show the artwork. Please keep up the fantastic work, I am learning so much by watching your channel!
Thank you, I’m really glad you liked it
got the perfume today and the smell is absolutely wonderful. It starts with amazing tea aroma top note, and then the wood note starts to kick it. I especially love how it's woody/dark but also have a light tea scent which doesn't make the whole perfume overpowering. A perfect autumn/winter cozy ambience. Thanks for making such a nice perfume.
Thank you for the lovely comment, I’m really glad you enjoy it :)
Got my travel size Amber Shadow yesterday from Scent Trunk. Wow! You really nailed this one! Very unusual and certainly gives the scent of an old library. I don't think this is one I would wear often in public, but for my own pleasure at home. This is a real perfumer's art masterpiece IMO.
Thank you, I really appreciate that you took the time to try it and I’m glad you like it
I think you should continue your darker theme separately, the scene you describe is interesting and i think personally a great idea to follow(the herbs, forgotten place and so on)
Honestly the alterations were very slight. I wouldn’t continue an offshoot development since it would be dishonest to the brand. Also, now I’ve got it back I’m very happy with where it’s at!
🎉Congratulations Sam! Your hard work has certainly paid off! Truly happy for you!🎉
Thank you 🙏
Im so excited to find you! Got into perfumery a few years ago. Stopped and was just thinking about it again and there you are.
Great to have you back!
Congratulations and Blessings on all your endeavors and timeless scent creations Sam 🍁📚
Thanks 🍁
I would love to see you creating a perfume inspired by a fairy kingdom in the middle of a forest during fall. The forest has oaks and beech trees, mushrooms, smell of moss and fir cones, and a sweet smell of sweet desserts with pralines and cinnamon freshly cooked by the wood fairies.
That sounds amazing, I’d love to work on a perfume like that
Well done Sam !!!
Congratulations
Thanks
Great overview of the process Sam. Really enjoyed the breakdown. Earl Grey a staple for me when reading books, and definitely complements the scent of old paper and wood imo. Love the artwork too. Congrats on the release! 📚📖
Thank you! Glad you’re behind the concept too ;)
So fascinating to hear someone give a forthright, almost step by step description of how they went about making a perfume. I’m sure it was even more time consuming than it sounded, but it gave great insight into the process! Mostly, perfumers make it so vague. They like you to think it’s magic lol😂
Would also like to cast another vote for the “single candle in a room”, extra dark, extra herbal version. I would probably buy that in a second!!
Congrats on the project. Love what you’re doing with the channel.
Yes it was very time consuming. I’m glad you appreciate my work, thank you. And honestly the difference was very subtle!
I love your process, both the visual part and the scent-composing. You went into it with true passion, exploring the possibilities. And what an amazing blend you chose! I loved your visuals too.
Would you think that adding
Tonka bean/ tiny bit of vanilla/sandalwood as a base which will smell like books and bookshelves
Leather/lavender/orange blossom as middle notes which will give a floral fresh animalic scent
And your accord as top notes
You'll have a dark sweet greeny fresh smell on paper but idk how it will translate to real life and will definitely be unique if it worked out
Yes to tonka, vanilla, and sandalwood in the base (he might have done that already along with Ambroxan). No to lavender and orange blossom IMO for a Dark Academia except in tiny amounts - too bright here.
@@fhoeflich yeah after looking at it maybe not Lavender and orange blossom, maybe iris, and maybe create a sweet dark floral DNA, which suites the illustration he made, autumn vibes in an old library (woods and leather), and some green maybe vetiver for the plants and maybe incense for the candles or for the smokiness from the lanterns... Etc
Ngl on paper this sounds like a warm sweet floral green-ish, smokey autumn scent, but i have no idea how it'll be in real life.
I was waiting for the note of papyrus.
Sounds amazing! I want!
I truly want to smell both, but the original you describe sounds incredible. That is to say, it's "Dark Academia", not "More Approachable Academia." 🤷🏿♂️
I love your approach to building it!
Thank you
congratulations Sam
Thank you
Ah! I love oakwood extract for the sweet whisky notes, a bit of Drunk Academia :) That Robertet natural apricot is much better than the peach (yuck!) I was using it last night with an outstandingly beautiful and citrusy Rosa alba otto and an artisanal blackcurrant absolute which smells like candy. Ambroxan from clary sage? Wow, science.
As soon I saw this video I went and ordered this perfume. You definitely nailed the theme of a dusty, dark academia. I can tell that you know what you’re doing and I admire you for that. Get up there Sam, you deserve it.
I can’t get one of your signature perfumes here in US. PLEASE work on that. Love you.
Thank you so much, really glad you liked it. And my Zurai perfumes will be back in the USA soon, be sure to subscribe to the mailing list on my website to be the first to find out when
I HAVE to get my nose on this. So up my alley, theme, notes… everything! Congratulations!
Thank you!

Thank you!
Congrats on the brief it sounds like a great composition and a real cool twist on an amber.
Thank you
Omg I love Scent Trunk so much. Can't wait to try this.
Congratulations!!! The price of the perfume is pretty good too :)
Thank you
Mmm I know I do like Clary Sage fresh from the garden. It is similar to sweet marjoram when crushed. I do wonder what the isolate smells like - I get the idea though. =) Congratulations!
Oh! Manifesto Isabella Rossellini, even though she does say it's a basil scent, it is spot on for clary sage. I have this perfume from long ago. Alberto Morillas did an excellent job on it. It's also similar to Chanel No. 19, a fresh chypre.
Thank you - I need to find some in real life
That was so cool! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you
I’m trying to add amber but I was told not to use the fragrance oil, but rather amber often means benzoin + labdanum + vanillin which is better. Is this true
I was wondering what the "clary amber" note mentioned on the ScentTrunk website was all about (I've heard of clary sage before). Thanks for explaining that!
And as for associating colors with smell, I do that, too. For example, huckleberries smell like purple to me.
Cool - I don’t think I’ve ever come across a huckleberry here in the UK
One of my bosses and one of my friends did fragrances for Scent Trunk as well!
So attractive ! Can’t wait to buy !
What a Fantastic Video, you made it very interesting telling us the whole process and how it ended up.
Thank you!
This coming out when I’m in my dark academia phase (again) is perfect. Also my favorite season is fall so I love this, great video Sam! Congrats! ❤
❤️
Awesome video and collaboration! What oils are you using for your leather note?
Not sure I can say but check out my video on leather notes
Hey i have been following you for a long time. Thanks alot . I have been able to set up my own business too. And btw that moustache suits you alot. You should try keeping it always xD love from India❤
Thank you - good luck with success in your own business
I just ordered yours and the cocoa one. Looking forward to smelling them when they arrive in Japan ❤
I’m honoured - do let me know your thoughts!
Congratulations on that 👏🏽
Thanks
Making moves! 🙌🎉
Always
Really gorgeous presentation that suits the theme!
Thank you
Nice! Congrats, Sam! :)

Congratulations Sam. I wish you the best.
Thank you
Well done Sam, sounds excellent. congrats on the project
well deserved

Let me know your thoughts if you do!
Congratulations, Sam! 🎉
Thank you
What a fun brief!
For sure
Congratulations 👏
Happy for you sam, good job.
Thanks!
You got some talent bro,, u inspire me,, thank you,,
Best of luck with your own perfumery
Congratulations on the awesome work! Thanks for the educational content, it has really helped me get started on my perfumery journey.
Thank you
Congrats! They should make sample to be able to test their perfume!
Thanks - I believe that’s the idea with the travel size but I know what you mean
On which website do you create those Ai pictures? They look incredible.
I use midjourney
That’s awesome! I’m happy to hear about and I actually I’m checking out the house right now!
The names, notes, packaging and prices are great. Im just curious on the concentrations for them! Specifically your if you can say it? I’m not expecting extraits but again im curious…😊
Thank you! I don’t think I can say on the concentration, but I’m sure they would let you know if you sent them an email
@@sammacer thank you! I appreciate the comment back.
Thank you for sharing, this was fun:) cant wait to try it❤❤
Glad you enjoyed :)
I have 2 quick questions. Can fragrance oils be diluted in perfumes alcohol like essential oils?
And I bought a material called benzoin 20% dpg pourable. Is that already pre diluted in 80% dpg? And can that be mixed with materials that were diluted in perfumers alcohol?
Thanks in advance!
Yes to both
I just purchased the travel spray. Would you say your perfume is male or female? Or more unisex? In any case, super excited to get it! And if I or my husband like it, I will definitely look into purchasing a full size. Thanks Sam for your unending inspiration in the world of perfumery.
Thank you! I would say it’s unisex. I would love to hear your thoughts once it arrives
@@sammacerlove it! Definitely unisex and a very green citrus smell that develops into a warm woody amber like finish. I just wish there was a touch more sweetness from the apricot but then it might lean more toward a feminine scent. I would absolutely love to smell your original formulation though!
😍sounds amazing!!!
Would love to get a bottle but the shipping to Australia is too expensive :(
Love it!, I would have added honey to this too?
That might have worked, I never tried it
No, not for Dark Academia. I like honey too, but in its place.
I got mine a couple weeks back and can't really gel with it. There's something in it that reminds me of an old rug I had that a cat urinated on, a lot and I can't get past it. Where does that "catty" thing likely come from? I don't mean to offend, it's just what smells very pronounced for me and makes it unwearable. Wish I could, since I enjoy your channel.
So sorry to hear that, I appreciate you trying it out. I guess you must smell something inside it quite differently from me. The only think that comes to mind are the leather notes maybe? How long does that bad smell last for you?
Happy for you.. congrats 🎉
Thanks!
Nice work, congratulations 👌👌
Thank you
Thank you sam ❤️🔥 this thanks meaning a lot 🖤💯✔️
❤️
I have a question apart from the essential oils, did you also add synthetics?
Yes
@@sammacer ok
@@sammacer Is that why you have to know chemistry?
I absolutely love the idea of using AI image generation to focus your creative energies. What generator(s) did you use for this?
I use midjourney
did you try any tobacco notes? seem like that would be very DA..
I didn't have a suitable tobacco raw material available but I think it could have been a great addition.
Yes. The smell of Gandalf's pipe, maybe!
It would be neat if you would have added the smell of paper and varnish
Funny I actually tried varnish (didn’t have time to mention in the video but it didn’t work out). Paper is a very difficult note.
I’m curious- if in the creative process working with Scent Trunk, was naming the perfume “Dark Academia” ever considered?
I’d love to hear just in general about the process of coming up with and deciding on the name for perfumes?
Not that I know of, you’d have to ask them.
For my own perfumes, there’s no one process i follow, but I do think long and hard about them, come up with many ideas and eventually settle on one.
Felicidades, te debemos mucho!!
Thanks
Where did you get the picture in the back from? The dark forest, fog.
I can’t remember, I got it printed years ago, I think it was just a stock image
You kinda look like Grant Gustin.... you guys could definitely be brothers. Best of luck on the launch!!
Haha, who is he?
He played the character Barry Allen AKA The Flash.@@sammacer
Man you got so f***king cute overnight. The beard looks great ;)
Merci
is there any retailer in Europe?
"Dark Academia" made me think of a perfume evil scientists with space lasers would have
Hahaha
I love your work but I would definitely hate somebody that wears this (including myself)
How come?
Are you blending perfumes for others ?
I’m not currently taking on new projects
So does it smells like byredo Bibliotheque + diptique l'eau papier + woody + leather?
No idea, I’ve never smelled it
@@sammacer make your version of it please.. or the Dossier/juliette has a gun Not a perfume...
@@neilsant1194 We don't do much replication of brands on this channel that I've seen. If you try to get hold of formula(e) or do your own best blend attempt(s), I think Sam and the community here would help you with any questions you might come up with.
I'm so insanely curious what the original smelled like! Here in the PNW I imagine a dark and foreboding fragrance would go over quite well...
Honestly they were very similar, only a subtle alteration
At $155 per?!?? Ok I'm obviously gonna buy it, but I'm also finally gonna start selling to cover the damn cost. 😂
As in, my own stuff that I make and wear, and that all of my coworkers keep asking me to sell them some of.
I didn’t set the prices! I believe they have a standard price. Good luck with selling your own creations :)
@@sammacer Thank you, Sam. I wouldn't know anywhere close to half as much as I do about perfumery, if it weren't for your hard work and time and money all spent on learning your craft, and THEN, your hard work and time and money spent on your channel, sharing your work with the rest of us. 💜
For everyone else, if I wasn't clear enough, I was only teasing about the price. 😁
Btw, do you have a Patreon yet? I'd happily contribute, in exchange for the education you're giving us all!

What’s with the American accent 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I don’t think I have one…
As each video come the transatlantic accent gets stronger and stronger the intonation and rhythm gets more and more American and the tone of your voice lowers and lowers to meet the intonation and rhyme … just be yourself don’t try to be anyone else you’re good at what you do be confident in being Sam the English man not Uncle Sam the American xxxx
