I am a nursing student, but your videos make me understand the concept extremely well, while I am laughing. You make me want to go to meds school. Thank you for existing
Wait! but as far as i remember from ur lectures, aPTT was for both intrinsic and comn pathway and PT was for extrinsic and comn ... So how does LMWH doesn't affect the comn pathway prolonging both aPTT And PT??
At 7:00 min mark you mention that LMWH does not affect ptt, but on clot based measuring assays ptt would be affected (increased) because factor X is needed to form a clot. I'm confused in this aspect. A response would be great help.
I have crude heparin sodium extracted from sheep intestinal mocusa in hands, I want to know its calculation international units /mg, how to do this test
The results suggest that heparin treatment prevents the development of severe fibrinoid vascular lesions and also attenuates the rate of the rise in systolic blood pressure; moreover, this reduction in blood pressure is not caused by a significant reduction in blood volume or an acute hypotensive effect of heparin.👍
6:51 Quote from an ASH article: "The widely accepted view that neither LMWH nor fondaparinux prolongs the APTT is incorrect, and whether this occurs depends on the sensitivity of the reagent and the plasma concentration of the drug." ashpublications.org/hematology/article/2012/1/460/83815/Coagulation-assays-and-anticoagulant-monitoring. LMWH CAN affect the aPTT but it is NOT used to monitor it.
That’s true, because PTT is measured until the thrombus is formed, and there will be a delay of thrombus formation with LMWH or Fondaparinux...I was oversimplifying...I should’ve bean more specific! Thank you so much for correcting me!
@@MedicosisPerfectionalis Your welcome :) . Even warfarin ( among other drugs) can affect aPTT . The whole discussion is important when you order an aPTT and then start looking for answers why it is slightly elevated.
I’m wondering if you can share what software you use to make these videos. I’m in education, and trying to develop videos for students in nursing. Thank you!!!
If heparin is in the body all the time, why can the cascade lead to hemostasis? Wouldn't antithrombin just prohibit all clotting before fibrinogen could be activated and made into fibrin?
Your body has both antithrombin and the clotting factors…The balance between the two is what keeps you in homeostasis…If antithrombin wins, we bleed…If clotting factors win, we make a clot. Obviously, we want to form a clot to stop bleeding when we have a cut (homeostasis), but we don’t want a heart attack or a stroke (pathology: disturbance of homeostasis).
Question: If LMWH will affect the factor xa "the common pathway", won't it logically affect both interisic and extrinsic pathways, which will prolong aptt? Thank's for this amazing approach. I'm an old fan of yours.
I am a fan of ur videos sir. They're well explained and easy to catch. But just one comment can you slow a little bit down while giving explanations? Sometimes I find it difficult to keep up with you. Thanks again
hello legendar videos as usual . what confuses me is that i was taught in university that heparin potentiates the effect of antithrombin III on factor x and ii which are in the common pathway, so why does heparin increased ptt
@@MedicosisPerfectionalis I searched all over. Cannot find a reasonable answer. It is weird. Usually, patients only uses heparin for a short period of time when they are hospitalized. Don't know when a short time use of heparin will influence the bones.

For monitoring UFH you can use the UFH assay and aptt?

for PE why would you not give thrombolytic agents such as streptokinase?
It depends!

Hi , Which anticoagulant “heparin or low molecular weight heparin should be given if the patient suffers from hypertension? And why

if someone has a nosebleed and is on heparin do you pack the nose or give protamine?
It depends on the case.
hello legendar videos as usual . what confuses me is that i was taught in university that heparin potentiates the effect of antithrombin III on factor x and ii which are in the common pathway, so why does heparin increased ptt
Because in reality heparin activates antithrombin III which inactivates factors II, VII, IX, X, XI, and XII…That’s why heparin raises PTT.
What is the relation between heparin and PT?
Heparin can prolong the PT, because antithrombin III can inhibit factor VII
why does heparin cause osteoporosis?
I don’t know the answer to this question!
