Obviously these arent the only characters in need of buffs or even the worst characters. I talked about Sub-Zero buff ideas in my last video. But otherwise, this isnt meant to be entirely realistic as I dont think NRS would do anything as crazy as some of my suggestions. I know y’all scorpion mains want him buffed but giving him an overhead isn’t a good answer for a whiff punish character. This isn’t MKX, not every character needs mix. Make his F2 plus so he can stagger it, buff his mid by either making it faster or more range, and give him more hit advantage on his back throw. And I’m sorry but if Omni man gets a command grab something needs to be done about his runaway game. Every time I play an Omni man online they get the health lead and run away. It’s not even zoning it’s just staying in the air , calling Lao hat and doing whatever. I play him too so a command grab would be nice but damn it’s so hard to pin him down.
As a scorp main is like to change his teleport to cancel without bar like smoke. And the ex one will launch to air combo. Than change ex db2 spin to safe but nerf damage. 333 first hit make a mid and f32 make mid faster in 2 frames maybe. I believe it will make him a good character but not broken.
Nah, he definitely needs an overhead. Almost all other characters have one, and the ones that dont (like Liu Kang) are stupid in other areas. His mid is too garbage and it's duckable on second hit, which is especially trash since the first hit is not confirmable. That being said, all other strings start with highs, and once you're in high levels (no pun intended) you just get neutral ducked forcing you to use a mid that you can't confirm off of and can't stagger because it is too slow. This leads people to getting a life lead and sitting full screen crouch blocking... because we cant do anything about it. Its not necessarily about mix its just that he should be balanced with everyone else.

Totally agree, i feel like scorpion would benefit alot from having a semi-safe teleport like raiden/omni-man otherwise using his normal teleport in the current state is a literal death sentence 💀@@windy0y
That depends on the kind of overhead it is. He is a ranged, whiff-punishing character, so giving him a long-range overhead that splats like Skarlet's B2 from MK11 suits him perfectly. He makes people crouch block and duck in the neutral and if they jump over his lows, he's dead - this overhead could punish players for doing those things without making him a scrubby MKX character.
Scorpion,sub zero,havik,quan chi,lao,kitana,nitara,Tanya,shang tsung,shao,reptile,baraka. All these are the low or mid tier characters that should get buffed or add some new moves
I agree that all of those at the very least need new moves, and most of them need buffs. Sucks that today's patch didnt have any real buffs besides Quan
imo scorpion just needs some minor frame data fixes and changing his F32 into mid-mid. BUUUUT a really good buff would be: 1) Make his teleport his core gameplay. I mean make him able to - forward cancel(hold forward to cancel) which will enter the teleport animation but he will just simply "dash" back a bit - down cancel(tap down twice to cancel) will be the exact same as his current EX teleport The EX version will cost 2 bars but give complete invulnerability and some new cancels - forward cancel now teleport scorpion right in front of the opponent with absolutely no recovery time - down cancel will make him burn the ground around him dealing 90 damage as a low attack, apply burn status effect, also giving insane frame advantage and restanding the air teleport will now be like this: - forward cancel teleports scorpion behind the opponent at mid-distance - back cancel(hold back to cancel) will teleport scorpion at full screen EX air teleport will stay the same as the current one, the cancels stay the same and return half a bar if performed 2) Give him some fireballs 3) Give him an overhead
I think another buff Omni Man needs is changing how his moves are affected by the gravity system in the game. His viltrumite stance 4 move is barely move because the only time you can use it in a combo successfully, you don’t even get better or equal damage. I think making it so that the enemy gets launched up more during this hit could give Omni Man more time to use different combos such as his forward 4,1 grab combo, which also is barely used because it doesn’t provide solid damage compared to his air combos
Oh thats a good point, I forgot how much a lot of his moves are affected so quickly by gravity. Would definitely be dope to see his different specials give different kinds of launch heights so that he gets different combo routes for each of them rather than always doing the same air combo. Also good point about the f4,1 grab string. Its a dope string but when I briefly labbed Omni-Man combos, I couldn't find any actual use for ending with that string compared to just like f4,1 stance1 which always lead to more damage than the string ender.
@@AwesomeBRINKS I run Jax with Omni Man most of my fights, he’s the only kameo I can think of that allows for the forward 4,1 grab to be used in a combo that’s over 30%
Really liked this video and I think you have great ideas. I like the idea of restoring Kunglaos teleport and meter burning for a 5050 mix. However I think instead of the stances with like hat trick as a lao main I would prefer 2 things reduced recovery on his hat toss so it can be used more for zoning and also his ex spin should pop up . I feel kunglaoa trademark has always been pop up spin instead of hard knockdown. Let me know what you think. Also keep up the great videos
Thats awesome to hear, thank you! And yes I think it would be a neat way to incorporate his teleport so that its unique from other teleport characters. And I agree with the hat toss recovery. Those things seem terrible as it is now. But I was thinking he'd still have those on top of the stance. He just feels like he should have multiple different and unique ways to use his hat and telekinetic hat powers like in previous MKs. Launching spin would be great too, especially if they kept the current version of the move but just made it pop up. Tho just giving him the classic spin that launches would probly be better lol. I was a Noob/Kollector main in MK11 and didn't play him, but his Great Kung Lao stance move was one of the coolest looking moves in that game so I've always felt like he could be a super flashy and visually crazy character with his abilities and it sucks how much he doesn't take advantage of that in MK1
Great vid man, agree with everything. For omni man, my 2 biggest complaints is his lack of mix and his viltrumite stance being limited to tping 90% of the time since the ground pound can be uplock punished for some reason. So you either go one of two ways with him. The first is my preference. Like you said, make his stance 1 be a command grab. This way the move can actually be used to somewhat counteract the fact that all of omni mans normals are slow and predictable, meaning you can punish someone who holds block up close all game. I’d also buff his f2 overhead so it isn’t a completely useless move like it is now, in the same boat as subs b2, a reactable overhead that is stupidly - on block. I’d either make it not go as far but not be -20 and maybe like -10, to where it can still be punished but you have to be quick. OR, you do what you suggested, buff his stance and make that his main gimmick. Because like you said playing current omni main doesn’t feel like you’re playing a terrifying viltrumite. It feels like a character that gets shit on due to his lack of mix and predictable and sluggish kit. And remove raiden johnny and kenshi. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🥂
Thank you! Yesss the stance is way too limited. At least in terms of pressure. I think the ground pound being up block punishable would be fine if the teleport was the same speed and startup animation, so you sort of had to commit to trying to punish the ground pound, but at the risk of getting teleport grab punished. But I definitely think he needs a command grab. Yo I totally forgot about his F2, which probly speaks to the viability of it lmao. I get hit by it all the time online but thats a me problem and I just need to pay better attention so I can react better. I agree with making it a little less minus so it isn't a full optimal combo punish. But yea I definitely think either way his stance needs to be his main gimmick beyond just combos. Feels like they gave him a move to be centered around, but then made it not really fit in with his kit fully so it really only works for combos. Dude I would LOVE for even one of Smoke's cancels to be like 0 or +2 on block, but people already complain about him nonstop lmao. Most of his cancels are at least "safe" in the sense that if they mash, you can block it. But it would be cool to have cancel routes that let us keep up the thumb destroying pressure without getting mashed on lmao

Hey Brinks! Something I think about when this balance topic comes up in MK1 is SonicFox's tier list. The key distinction they made about S tiers and S+ tiers is that, while S tiers are perfectly viable, S+ characters have some kind of crazy/OP shit that puts them above or otherwise makes them unique. Ideally, all characters should have some kind of unique thing, regardless of their place in the tier list. Then, said stuff can be tweaked for balance, as you said in the video. Something that makes me very optimistic is that the last Kameo balance patch and the Peacemaker trailer seem to point out that NRS is looking for things to add to the characters (like Quan's new portal shown in the trailer), rather than just frame/damage buffs or nerfing the high tiers. I initially assumed character reworks wouldn't come until the story expansion (given that MK11 got the third variations during the Aftermath update) but it seems like they're willing to do it far earlier. I'm definitely very excited to see what changes during next week's update, hopefully it's not just Quan who received that kind of buff. I don't feel Scorpion is as bad as most people say balance-wise (given that he's still good enough to reach major grand finals, as MKJavier proved), but I do agree he could use some rework rather than plain damage/frame buffs. I feel like his current meta gameplan is a bit, uhh, "un-scorpiony". I kind of associate him with more rushdown/mix than with the keep-away heavy plan he has right now, so something that addresses that might be good. The idea of the clones is actually pretty interesting, I would have never though of that 🤔 Raiden is an interesting one, I feel like if you remove Storm Cell he kind of falls into that Mileena/Li Mei tier where they do very high damage, but not a lot more. At launch I wasn't sure if his mix was good enough to keep him at the top (given that B2 doesn't combo, thank God), but I do think he's a bit too safe in most of his better strings, considering the damage they do. I definitely agree that Storm Cell really makes the whole character very one-dimensional, so I think a few nerfs are needed before before a proper character rework. However, after the 100th trash talking, teabagging, laggy enough you'd think he's sending his inputs via the post service Raiden main you find in Kombat League, one starts to feel like nerfs aren't enough. Raiden mains have demonstrated they haven't earned the human right to have a fun, competitively viable character, so I wouldn't be sad if he just ended up getting MKX Cyrax-ed into oblivion. I'm really interesting in hearing your ideas on Kameo reworks. After seeing "look at me, I'm Sento now" Janet Cage in the Peacemaker trailer, I think some of the base game kameos like Sonya or Sareena are starting to feel a bit "too simple", specially when compared to the DLC ones with unique mechanics like Tremor and Khameleon. Giving them their own unique stuff would likely be a good way to make them better options for more characters. I do feel (and this is like the biggest thing I want for this game) that the Kameos should be far crazier in the future. More ambushes, faster recharges, more unique mechanics and moves. A lot of this game's variety comes from the Kameos, they're probably the biggest reason why I have only played Smoke since launch without getting bored, because the Kameos give him enough unique stuff to make it him play differently. The way you're play Smoke/Sektor is very different from the way you play Smoke/Sub-Zero or Smoke/Scorpion, and that's what makes this game fun. I personally think that's kind of the whole point of the Kameo system; given that you can't change point characters in Kombat League, the ideal scenario would be that the Kameos give you enough tools to drastically change how you would approach the current match-up. MK1 is not quite there yet balance-wise, but I feel it's going in that direction. Your Smoke suggestions should also be annoyingly crazy, no matter how many people they piss off 😈 Something dumb like "make F4 all overheards", "B2 should be about 12 frames like MK11 Sub" or "BF3 cancel should actually give plus frames, no I don't know if it's even physically possible that's NRS' problem not mine". Now seriously, I really wouldn't mind if they made the BF3 cancel window a bit bigger, I recently started playing with my PC connected to the TV via HDMI (rather than using my Freesync monitor, because life circumstances made it somewhat difficult to use) and I'm missing a lot of my cancels 😭 Hopefully I'll get gud again before the update, I need to be ready to show off my cross-platform, cross-dimensional, cross-temporal "I pinky promise you can actually poke-SIKE BF3 SCORPION KAMEO" crayon munching. BTW, what do you think of Peacemaker and Janet Cage, from what we saw in the trailer? Both seem pretty cool, through perhaps need to see them in action before making any judgments (Quan also looked super OP in his trailer). I'm very interested in seeing how Eagly works, seems like some sort of ambush assist given that he used it after special moves. Something I want to see is how he can be used to counter Kameos, imagine the opponent is trying to set up an Omni-Man/Lao hard-to-blockable and you go, "NO, E A G L Y 🦅". If he's fun to play, Peacemaker might become my new secondary character (I'm a huge Cena fan from the WWE days, he's my most hyped guest since Terminator). Janet also seems very fun, the only thing that worries me is if she doesn't have good synergy with Smoke. I really want one of the DLC Kameos to do for him what Khameleon did to other characters: to open a new, unique way to play. Take care 👍

Oooh that's a good point about Sonic's tierlist, and I agree with them about S/S+ difference now that I think about that. I am equally optimistic that they seem to be adding to characters. I just hope they take a more aggressive approach early on rather than still being so cautious. I didn't think full character reworks were on the table this soon either but then again, they did give Darrius an additional move already, even though its just a different application of the same animation with different properties. I'm super excited to see what's in that patch. I don't know enough about Scorpion or some of the other characters to take a hard stance on tier placement, but I will say that a single tournament win isn't enough evidence to make any claims just yet, especially in a game like this where it is fairly volatile. If Javier starts consistently placing in events that are full of known top tiers, then at that point I'd say Scorpion is probly better than people think. That kinda discussion happens a lot in the Smash scene, where a perceived lower tier character would get Top 8 and suddenly everyone starts questioning tier placements, and usually overlooks the fact that the player using that lower tier has been competing for like 8 years and is using an obscure character that people have less experience against. But again, Scorpion is just in that grouping of characters for me where I can tell theyre not top tiers, but I have no clue other than that lmao. And I think everyone in this game is useable enough to win a major in a general sense. I super agree about rushdown aggro Scorpion feeling more like his expected playstyle than the weird defensive style he currently is. I actually had 2 versions of Scorp reworks in my video originally, 1 defensive where he could use the hell fire to create a lingering trap on the screen and giving him more long range chain moves to reinforce his run away defensive style, but I cut that whole section while editing cuz it felt very anti-Scorpion to me, especially compared to a wild clone type one that I went with for the other version. And thank you, it was fun to think about and having typed it out, I will now be forever disappointed in whatever style he ends up turning into during this game since it very likely wont be that lmao I'm not sure if they should remove Storm Cell, but I have no actual idea how to balance it. Making it more unsafe doesnt remove the kano strat with it. LMAO yooo I love the spontaneous Raiden hate that just came out of you at the end of that paragraph. I respect it. Maybe youre right and they deserve to sit out for a couple patches before they get to have a functionally reworked character haha. I typed up a bunch of the script for the kameo rework vid, and I don't think its gonna be as crazy as this vid was cuz I feel like all of the obvious and easy fixes to less usable kameo moves are actually very reasonable to ask for lmao. Sareena is tough imo cuz she has a unique identity as the simple combo extension kameo and all her moves are pretty usable. Only thing I might change that I can think of is to make her single knife toss an ambush lmao. Then shed get cool easy air juggles too, and weird ground extensions like Cyrax chopper gave some characters. And you could stack it with a projectile from your own character too. It does feel like DLC kameos are eventually going to completely power creep all but the best base game kameos. I agree about way crazier kameos being important. At least crazy enough to noticeably change how your character plays between different kameos, like you said for Smoke. And yessss its for sure the point of the kameo system. It's like a successor to variations, which are supposed to create different *variations* of playstyle per character. They definitely seem to be going in the right direction, but this next patch will likely reveal the most about it. Imma have 2 categories of Smoke suggestions, quality of life/giving purpose to useless moves (what is the point of j211? Why would you ever do the full F324 or B234 strings etc.) and just totally unhinged (make F1 a mid, decrease the recovery on air DB4 cancels by like 10 frames, let EXBF3 either do way more damage or cause a popup, bf3 cancel can parry etc.) F4 being all OHs sounds amazing tho. And makes sense since youre technically airborne lol. A bigger cancel window would be dope. Damn having to get used to a new setup is always rough but I'm sure youll adapt soon enough! LMAO that actually sounds like the best kinda crayon munching, I really gotta try Scorpion kameo Hard to say but I think Janet is at least going to have a place for combo extensions, depending on cooldowns. That like Sento/Motaro triple shot esque move looked crazy. I'm super curious about the mime move. It looks too short to be very useful but maybe it has variable timings. I play Rain and for him i would made Super kick a special move, beacause as a normal you never use this move execpte for spesific side switch combo. You can dash cancel the move but why would this normal in neutral. As a special move Super Kick could open Rain's combo route and make you use the ability to dash cancel
Sorry for the late reply, but yo that would actually be amazing. I've always found that move to be awkward. It's neat that you have the utility of a weird side switch move like that but it sucks that Rain just has no meterless special launchers. Imagine if EX DB1 was your metered launcher, but the Super Kick could be the lower damage meterless launcher. Yooo or if they kept it a normal, but gave his BF1 charge cancel the ability to combo into a charged Super Kick. Like you could basically cancel the beam charge directly into a charged Super Kick. So then you get dash cancels with the charge, and could do like F21->BF1cancel->Superkick->112 or something, but youd still have the cool side switch combos from the regular charged superkick that you get now
Netherrelm needs to buff scorpion by making his teleport faster and a regular cancel like how the smoke cancel is, and make his amp teleport launch again. and for gods sake he needs some overhead and low strings. And finally buff the damage done by the amp hellfire. spread the word🙏🏾
I played Ermac and Tremor in MKX and never really played online during that games lifecycle(I got into the game late and was just a training mode combo fiend lmao), so I only know MKX Lao from combo videos, but he looked fucking sickkkk. Would love to see them alter MK1 Lao to be even remotely like MKX Lao
Honestly, thanks to the last patch, his damage is pretty similar to other characters in terms of 1 bar/1 kameo combos. He just has to spend the resource to get combos since he has no meterless way to convert from his normals by himself. I just think if they made ice ball combo from F12 and 21 meterlessly, but for scaled damage around 30%, it would be great. Especially if they buffed some of his trap/setup potential a bit
That would actually be sick. Havik is another one of those characters that feels like he's missing 1 or 2 more weird moves. Given his wacky concept and unique abilities, I was expecting him to have more crazy body horror moves than he has. The arm rip stuff and unblockable is cool, but he could be a little more metal than he is lmao. A way to heal from certain moves would be super interesting

I personally don't think he is. I've just heard a lot of people talk about him like hes on the lower end. I think he's actually in a pretty good place where he's got a pretty cool identity in terms of gameplay, and his strengths and weaknesses make sense

Maybe I got too unrealistic, but its a lot more fun to think of actual rework type buffs like this than to just work with the frames and properties of what characters already have. Especially since I genuinely think characters like Scorpion and Lao need an actually new move or mechanic. This was more a fun video to theorycraft crazy shit that would be dope to see, even if the chance of them actually doing something close to that is incredibly slim. I know y’all scorpion mains want him buffed but giving him an overhead isn’t a good answer for a whiff punish character. This isn’t MKX, not every character needs mix. Make his F2 plus so he can stagger it, buff his mid by either making it faster or more range, and give him more hit advantage on his back throw. And I’m sorry but if Omni man gets a command grab something needs to be done about his runaway game. Every time I play an Omni man online they get the health lead and run away. It’s not even zoning it’s just staying in the air , calling Lao hat and doing whatever. I play him too so a command grab would be nice but damn it’s so hard to pin him down.
As a scorp main is like to change his teleport to cancel without bar like smoke. And the ex one will launch to air combo. Than change ex db2 spin to safe but nerf damage. 333 first hit make a mid and f32 make mid faster in 2 frames maybe. I believe it will make him a good character but not broken.
Nah, he definitely needs an overhead. Almost all other characters have one, and the ones that dont (like Liu Kang) are stupid in other areas. His mid is too garbage and it's duckable on second hit, which is especially trash since the first hit is not confirmable. That being said, all other strings start with highs, and once you're in high levels (no pun intended) you just get neutral ducked forcing you to use a mid that you can't confirm off of and can't stagger because it is too slow. This leads people to getting a life lead and sitting full screen crouch blocking... because we cant do anything about it. Its not necessarily about mix its just that he should be balanced with everyone else.

Totally agree, i feel like scorpion would benefit alot from having a semi-safe teleport like raiden/omni-man otherwise using his normal teleport in the current state is a literal death sentence 💀@@windy0y
That depends on the kind of overhead it is. He is a ranged, whiff-punishing character, so giving him a long-range overhead that splats like Skarlet's B2 from MK11 suits him perfectly. He makes people crouch block and duck in the neutral and if they jump over his lows, he's dead - this overhead could punish players for doing those things without making him a scrubby MKX character.
Scorpion,sub zero,havik,quan chi,lao,kitana,nitara,Tanya,shang tsung,shao,reptile,baraka.
All these are the low or mid tier characters that should get buffed or add some new moves
I agree that all of those at the very least need new moves, and most of them need buffs. Sucks that today's patch didnt have any real buffs besides Quan
imo scorpion just needs some minor frame data fixes and changing his F32 into mid-mid. BUUUUT a really good buff would be:
1) Make his teleport his core gameplay. I mean make him able to
- forward cancel(hold forward to cancel) which will enter the teleport animation but he will just simply "dash" back a bit
- down cancel(tap down twice to cancel) will be the exact same as his current EX teleport
The EX version will cost 2 bars but give complete invulnerability and some new cancels
- forward cancel now teleport scorpion right in front of the opponent with absolutely no recovery time
- down cancel will make him burn the ground around him dealing 90 damage as a low attack, apply burn status effect, also giving insane frame advantage and restanding
the air teleport will now be like this:
- forward cancel teleports scorpion behind the opponent at mid-distance
- back cancel(hold back to cancel) will teleport scorpion at full screen
EX air teleport will stay the same as the current one, the cancels stay the same and return half a bar if performed
2) Give him some fireballs
3) Give him an overhead

I think another buff Omni Man needs is changing how his moves are affected by the gravity system in the game. His viltrumite stance 4 move is barely move because the only time you can use it in a combo successfully, you don’t even get better or equal damage. I think making it so that the enemy gets launched up more during this hit could give Omni Man more time to use different combos such as his forward 4,1 grab combo, which also is barely used because it doesn’t provide solid damage compared to his air combos
Oh thats a good point, I forgot how much a lot of his moves are affected so quickly by gravity. Would definitely be dope to see his different specials give different kinds of launch heights so that he gets different combo routes for each of them rather than always doing the same air combo.
Also good point about the f4,1 grab string. Its a dope string but when I briefly labbed Omni-Man combos, I couldn't find any actual use for ending with that string compared to just like f4,1 stance1 which always lead to more damage than the string ender.
@@AwesomeBRINKS I run Jax with Omni Man most of my fights, he’s the only kameo I can think of that allows for the forward 4,1 grab to be used in a combo that’s over 30%
Really liked this video and I think you have great ideas. I like the idea of restoring Kunglaos teleport and meter burning for a 5050 mix. However I think instead of the stances with like hat trick as a lao main I would prefer 2 things reduced recovery on his hat toss so it can be used more for zoning and also his ex spin should pop up . I feel kunglaoa trademark has always been pop up spin instead of hard knockdown. Let me know what you think. Also keep up the great videos
Thats awesome to hear, thank you! And yes I think it would be a neat way to incorporate his teleport so that its unique from other teleport characters. And I agree with the hat toss recovery. Those things seem terrible as it is now. But I was thinking he'd still have those on top of the stance. He just feels like he should have multiple different and unique ways to use his hat and telekinetic hat powers like in previous MKs. Launching spin would be great too, especially if they kept the current version of the move but just made it pop up. Tho just giving him the classic spin that launches would probly be better lol.
I was a Noob/Kollector main in MK11 and didn't play him, but his Great Kung Lao stance move was one of the coolest looking moves in that game so I've always felt like he could be a super flashy and visually crazy character with his abilities and it sucks how much he doesn't take advantage of that in MK1

Great vid man, agree with everything. For omni man, my 2 biggest complaints is his lack of mix and his viltrumite stance being limited to tping 90% of the time since the ground pound can be uplock punished for some reason. So you either go one of two ways with him. The first is my preference. Like you said, make his stance 1 be a command grab. This way the move can actually be used to somewhat counteract the fact that all of omni mans normals are slow and predictable, meaning you can punish someone who holds block up close all game. I’d also buff his f2 overhead so it isn’t a completely useless move like it is now, in the same boat as subs b2, a reactable overhead that is stupidly - on block. I’d either make it not go as far but not be -20 and maybe like -10, to where it can still be punished but you have to be quick. OR, you do what you suggested, buff his stance and make that his main gimmick. Because like you said playing current omni main doesn’t feel like you’re playing a terrifying viltrumite. It feels like a character that gets shit on due to his lack of mix and predictable and sluggish kit. And remove raiden johnny and kenshi. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🥂
Thank you! Yesss the stance is way too limited. At least in terms of pressure. I think the ground pound being up block punishable would be fine if the teleport was the same speed and startup animation, so you sort of had to commit to trying to punish the ground pound, but at the risk of getting teleport grab punished.
But I definitely think he needs a command grab. Yo I totally forgot about his F2, which probly speaks to the viability of it lmao. I get hit by it all the time online but thats a me problem and I just need to pay better attention so I can react better. I agree with making it a little less minus so it isn't a full optimal combo punish.
But yea I definitely think either way his stance needs to be his main gimmick beyond just combos. Feels like they gave him a move to be centered around, but then made it not really fit in with his kit fully so it really only works for combos.

Tho I think a version of Johnny where he's more of an install character that actually wants to get hype mode as much as possible rather than just being a fucked up rushdown character with plus frames everywhere who also gets this crazy optional bonus of hype mode.

Dude I would LOVE for even one of Smoke's cancels to be like 0 or +2 on block, but people already complain about him nonstop lmao. Most of his cancels are at least "safe" in the sense that if they mash, you can block it. But it would be cool to have cancel routes that let us keep up the thumb destroying pressure without getting mashed on lmao

But actually, the Smoke video is structured so that its tips to play against Smoke's gimmicks, along with what to do if you're the Smoke player and your opponent knows what to do against your cancels and gimmicks. Hey Brinks! Something I think about when this balance topic comes up in MK1 is SonicFox's tier list. The key distinction they made about S tiers and S+ tiers is that, while S tiers are perfectly viable, S+ characters have some kind of crazy/OP shit that puts them above or otherwise makes them unique. Ideally, all characters should have some kind of unique thing, regardless of their place in the tier list. Then, said stuff can be tweaked for balance, as you said in the video. Something that makes me very optimistic is that the last Kameo balance patch and the Peacemaker trailer seem to point out that NRS is looking for things to add to the characters (like Quan's new portal shown in the trailer), rather than just frame/damage buffs or nerfing the high tiers. I initially assumed character reworks wouldn't come until the story expansion (given that MK11 got the third variations during the Aftermath update) but it seems like they're willing to do it far earlier. I'm definitely very excited to see what changes during next week's update, hopefully it's not just Quan who received that kind of buff.
I don't feel Scorpion is as bad as most people say balance-wise (given that he's still good enough to reach major grand finals, as MKJavier proved), but I do agree he could use some rework rather than plain damage/frame buffs. I feel like his current meta gameplan is a bit, uhh, "un-scorpiony". I kind of associate him with more rushdown/mix than with the keep-away heavy plan he has right now, so something that addresses that might be good. The idea of the clones is actually pretty interesting, I would have never though of that 🤔
Raiden is an interesting one, I feel like if you remove Storm Cell he kind of falls into that Mileena/Li Mei tier where they do very high damage, but not a lot more. At launch I wasn't sure if his mix was good enough to keep him at the top (given that B2 doesn't combo, thank God), but I do think he's a bit too safe in most of his better strings, considering the damage they do. I definitely agree that Storm Cell really makes the whole character very one-dimensional, so I think a few nerfs are needed before before a proper character rework. However, after the 100th trash talking, teabagging, laggy enough you'd think he's sending his inputs via the post service Raiden main you find in Kombat League, one starts to feel like nerfs aren't enough. Raiden mains have demonstrated they haven't earned the human right to have a fun, competitively viable character, so I wouldn't be sad if he just ended up getting MKX Cyrax-ed into oblivion.
I'm really interesting in hearing your ideas on Kameo reworks. After seeing "look at me, I'm Sento now" Janet Cage in the Peacemaker trailer, I think some of the base game kameos like Sonya or Sareena are starting to feel a bit "too simple", specially when compared to the DLC ones with unique mechanics like Tremor and Khameleon. Giving them their own unique stuff would likely be a good way to make them better options for more characters. I do feel (and this is like the biggest thing I want for this game) that the Kameos should be far crazier in the future. More ambushes, faster recharges, more unique mechanics and moves. A lot of this game's variety comes from the Kameos, they're probably the biggest reason why I have only played Smoke since launch without getting bored, because the Kameos give him enough unique stuff to make it him play differently. The way you're play Smoke/Sektor is very different from the way you play Smoke/Sub-Zero or Smoke/Scorpion, and that's what makes this game fun. I personally think that's kind of the whole point of the Kameo system; given that you can't change point characters in Kombat League, the ideal scenario would be that the Kameos give you enough tools to drastically change how you would approach the current match-up. MK1 is not quite there yet balance-wise, but I feel it's going in that direction.
Your Smoke suggestions should also be annoyingly crazy, no matter how many people they piss off 😈 Something dumb like "make F4 all overheards", "B2 should be about 12 frames like MK11 Sub" or "BF3 cancel should actually give plus frames, no I don't know if it's even physically possible that's NRS' problem not mine". Now seriously, I really wouldn't mind if they made the BF3 cancel window a bit bigger, I recently started playing with my PC connected to the TV via HDMI (rather than using my Freesync monitor, because life circumstances made it somewhat difficult to use) and I'm missing a lot of my cancels 😭 Hopefully I'll get gud again before the update, I need to be ready to show off my cross-platform, cross-dimensional, cross-temporal "I pinky promise you can actually poke-SIKE BF3 SCORPION KAMEO" crayon munching.
BTW, what do you think of Peacemaker and Janet Cage, from what we saw in the trailer? Both seem pretty cool, through perhaps need to see them in action before making any judgments (Quan also looked super OP in his trailer). I'm very interested in seeing how Eagly works, seems like some sort of ambush assist given that he used it after special moves. Something I want to see is how he can be used to counter Kameos, imagine the opponent is trying to set up an Omni-Man/Lao hard-to-blockable and you go, "NO, E A G L Y 🦅". If he's fun to play, Peacemaker might become my new secondary character (I'm a huge Cena fan from the WWE days, he's my most hyped guest since Terminator). Janet also seems very fun, the only thing that worries me is if she doesn't have good synergy with Smoke. I really want one of the DLC Kameos to do for him what Khameleon did to other characters: to open a new, unique way to play. Take care 👍

Oooh that's a good point about Sonic's tierlist, and I agree with them about S/S+ difference now that I think about that.
I am equally optimistic that they seem to be adding to characters. I just hope they take a more aggressive approach early on rather than still being so cautious. I didn't think full character reworks were on the table this soon either but then again, they did give Darrius an additional move already, even though its just a different application of the same animation with different properties. I'm super excited to see what's in that patch.
I don't know enough about Scorpion or some of the other characters to take a hard stance on tier placement, but I will say that a single tournament win isn't enough evidence to make any claims just yet, especially in a game like this where it is fairly volatile. If Javier starts consistently placing in events that are full of known top tiers, then at that point I'd say Scorpion is probly better than people think. That kinda discussion happens a lot in the Smash scene, where a perceived lower tier character would get Top 8 and suddenly everyone starts questioning tier placements, and usually overlooks the fact that the player using that lower tier has been competing for like 8 years and is using an obscure character that people have less experience against. But again, Scorpion is just in that grouping of characters for me where I can tell theyre not top tiers, but I have no clue other than that lmao. And I think everyone in this game is useable enough to win a major in a general sense.
I super agree about rushdown aggro Scorpion feeling more like his expected playstyle than the weird defensive style he currently is. I actually had 2 versions of Scorp reworks in my video originally, 1 defensive where he could use the hell fire to create a lingering trap on the screen and giving him more long range chain moves to reinforce his run away defensive style, but I cut that whole section while editing cuz it felt very anti-Scorpion to me, especially compared to a wild clone type one that I went with for the other version. And thank you, it was fun to think about and having typed it out, I will now be forever disappointed in whatever style he ends up turning into during this game since it very likely wont be that lmao

I typed up a bunch of the script for the kameo rework vid, and I don't think its gonna be as crazy as this vid was cuz I feel like all of the obvious and easy fixes to less usable kameo moves are actually very reasonable to ask for lmao. Sareena is tough imo cuz she has a unique identity as the simple combo extension kameo and all her moves are pretty usable. Only thing I might change that I can think of is to make her single knife toss an ambush lmao. Then shed get cool easy air juggles too, and weird ground extensions like Cyrax chopper gave some characters. And you could stack it with a projectile from your own character too.
It does feel like DLC kameos are eventually going to completely power creep all but the best base game kameos. I agree about way crazier kameos being important. At least crazy enough to noticeably change how your character plays between different kameos, like you said for Smoke. And yessss its for sure the point of the kameo system. It's like a successor to variations, which are supposed to create different *variations* of playstyle per character. They definitely seem to be going in the right direction, but this next patch will likely reveal the most about it.
Imma have 2 categories of Smoke suggestions, quality of life/giving purpose to useless moves (what is the point of j211? Why would you ever do the full F324 or B234 strings etc.) and just totally unhinged (make F1 a mid, decrease the recovery on air DB4 cancels by like 10 frames, let EXBF3 either do way more damage or cause a popup, bf3 cancel can parry etc.)
F4 being all OHs sounds amazing tho. And makes sense since youre technically airborne lol. A bigger cancel window would be dope. Damn having to get used to a new setup is always rough but I'm sure youll adapt soon enough! LMAO that actually sounds like the best kinda crayon munching, I really gotta try Scorpion kameo
Hard to say but I think Janet is at least going to have a place for combo extensions, depending on cooldowns. That like Sento/Motaro triple shot esque move looked crazy. I'm super curious about the mime move. It looks too short to be very useful but maybe it has variable timings.
Peacemaker looks way more interesting than I thought hed be tbh. I need to see how Eagly works, especially with the kameo attack move. I wonder if it works like an assist call, or if its like Sindel's anti breaker where you just do a move and then if your opponent calls their kameo during a certain duration, he just swoops in and attacks them. Glad to see he looks like hes got a lot of interesting combo options tho. Love the idea of countering Lao setups with Eagly tho haha.

I play Rain and for him i would made Super kick a special move, beacause as a normal you never use this move execpte for spesific side switch combo. You can dash cancel the move but why would this normal in neutral.
As a special move Super Kick could open Rain's combo route and make you use the ability to dash cancel
Sorry for the late reply, but yo that would actually be amazing. I've always found that move to be awkward. It's neat that you have the utility of a weird side switch move like that but it sucks that Rain just has no meterless special launchers. Imagine if EX DB1 was your metered launcher, but the Super Kick could be the lower damage meterless launcher. Yooo or if they kept it a normal, but gave his BF1 charge cancel the ability to combo into a charged Super Kick. Like you could basically cancel the beam charge directly into a charged Super Kick.
So then you get dash cancels with the charge, and could do like F21->BF1cancel->Superkick->112 or something, but youd still have the cool side switch combos from the regular charged superkick that you get now

Netherrelm needs to buff scorpion by making his teleport faster and a regular cancel like how the smoke cancel is, and make his amp teleport launch again. and for gods sake he needs some overhead and low strings. And finally buff the damage done by the amp hellfire. spread the word🙏🏾

Honestly, thanks to the last patch, his damage is pretty similar to other characters in terms of 1 bar/1 kameo combos. He just has to spend the resource to get combos since he has no meterless way to convert from his normals by himself. I just think if they made ice ball combo from F12 and 21 meterlessly, but for scaled damage around 30%, it would be great. Especially if they buffed some of his trap/setup potential a bit

That would actually be sick. Havik is another one of those characters that feels like he's missing 1 or 2 more weird moves. Given his wacky concept and unique abilities, I was expecting him to have more crazy body horror moves than he has. The arm rip stuff and unblockable is cool, but he could be a little more metal than he is lmao. A way to heal from certain moves would be super interesting
Havik being able to rip his arms and legs off and control them like sento would be cool

I personally don't think he is. I've just heard a lot of people talk about him like hes on the lower end. I think he's actually in a pretty good place where he's got a pretty cool identity in terms of gameplay, and his strengths and weaknesses make sense
@@AwesomeBRINKSshaos strength completely depends on his stance imo. With axe in hand, he’s mediocre and sluggish. When he drops the axe he becomes a nightmare to play against. Only issue is dropping the axe isn’t always possible. But man when he does he is a monster of high damage mix

In the peacemaker trailer it looks like Quan Chi already got a new move. He summons a portal on peacemaker and he doesn't have one that does that.
Maybe I got too unrealistic, but its a lot more fun to think of actual rework type buffs like this than to just work with the frames and properties of what characters already have. Especially since I genuinely think characters like Scorpion and Lao need an actually new move or mechanic.
This was more a fun video to theorycraft crazy shit that would be dope to see, even if the chance of them actually doing something close to that is incredibly slim.
I think the only "realistic" idea I had was to make Scorp's F32 a double mid lmao

@@Jking44th its definitely new. He currently can't open a portal that far away from him, and he only currently has purple and green portals. Seems like a drain type move. Which if that's all it is kind of disappoints me since I don't think that really helps his gameplan much lol
Tbh, NRS have one last chance to get this right. If they choose to buff Kameo's and nerf main characters, then consider the game truly DEAD.
