Exploring Beijing. Chinese New Year Festival of Lights in WENYUHE Park

3rd February 2025. The day is Lichun, the first of the 24 Solar terms and announces the coming of spring. How I wish the weather felt springlike. The food it is traditional eat on this day is spring bing, small thin pancakes which are filled, in my case, with a vegetable dish. We had tickets to see a lantern festival in Wenyuhe park in the north of the city and despite the sub zero temperatures we headed out for ‘A Night of a Thousand lights’ which celebrates not only the Spring festival but also the national intangible cultural heritage of Zigong Lanterns. These lanterns originated from Jin Dynasty in the city of Zigong in Sichuan province.
