I suspect that a lot of the design decisions by Sawyer comes down to their products being developed for providing clean water to communities in remote areas, then adapting it as a consumer product. For example, the seal that likes to fall out is a standard hose washer. The in-line capability for inserting it into rain barrels. The more stringent filtering for bacteria in underdeveloped areas. And the longevity (thousands of gallons) for daily use over multiple years. BeeFree and QuickDraw are obviously designed more for the outdoor recreation market, with flow rate, storage and proprietary system connectivity as priorities.

Guess you are right. Just wish the rest of em would state openly if their declared specs are absolute or nominal as it makes a big difference.
