David Muller One day while cleaning the firebox out I noticed all the grease drippings spilled into the pit. I though at first that it overflowed but nope, it was the drain tube that rusted out.
Do you know if there's a way to clean out the drain tube? I bought a project GMG Davy Crockett but I can't get water to flow out it. I soaked it with boiling water and a high concentrate of dawn and now am using eazy offs bbq grill cleaner hoping it work.
The Blue Bike & Doyle Heck yeah!!! One day, four years ago, I bought this and took it with me on a weekend camping trip. I put that brisket in there, loaded the hopper, let it do it’s thing and 14 hours later it was time to eat. I’ll never go back to wood log smoking. Honestly though, the smoke gets to me as much as I love it.
I'm having to do the same. My brand new grill's body started to rust and finish flaked off within 3 months. The "Repair" kit they sent me was some sand paper and a can of high temp spray paint. So much for warranty on their finish. At the two year mark, even when stored in a 60gallon job box, it has become a rust bucket on the body, inside and out. Hopper, lid, etc finish is still great but the body finish on this grill was done terrible and didn't last. Will now be tearing it completely down to try and save it. Kind of pisses me off.
That sucks. Sorry to hear. Mine was 5 years old I think when I did this resto and it wasn’t all that bad on the inside but the drain tube needed repair so I thought this would be a good opportunity. Otherwise I think they are really good pellet smokers. I recently purchased a Daniel Boone and love that thing but I do keep it covered and so far after a year it still looks good. I do also clean after each cook.
Today my drain tube failed. Leaks all over the place. Guess imma need to find a friend with a welder 🧑🏭
Great job Paul...now I need to check the drain tube on my grill for corrosion.

Looks great, Paul. Can't wait to see the finished job.
Thanks 👍

I just used a metal clothes hanger and pushed out whatever I could then started pushing small pieces of paper napkins.
