Love those dissonant notes he plays in between the "destination" notes. Sometimes going completely out of key but landing on the right note. It's very cool, like a controlled chaos. Makes his playing so unpredictable.
Typically when I'm trying to play a song from ears I hit wrong notes 'till I can get to the right one.. Maybe he recorded like that and didn't care to let those """wrong""" notes there..
Such a daring piece from Vai. The title reflects the music very well. It is rooted in a simple blues feel. The piece starts in familiar blues "language", but as we go further in the piece, Vai starts progressively speaking in "gibberish", mixing in foreign "words" and "phrases" into the familiar blues tongue, hence "Greenish Blues". At the song's climax, his tongue has morphed so much he is speaking in complete alien. An absolute masterpiece.
Steve Vai always a legend. Aside from the blues motif, he is totally in jazz/rock territory with this one, often playing outside and using unusual scales. The legato playing is phenomenal and it reminds a lot of the late great Allan Holdsworth (phenomenal solo). Steve Vai always pushing the envelope, one of the best of all time 🙂
"to let go of fear, and pursue who you really are with passion, is the message that he's continuously communicating through his playing, it's undeniable, just listen". Thank you Steve... Chris.
My mum died a week before this album came out and I recall listening to it back to back trying to understand what had happened and why. All the emotions were flooding my soul to the core and if I could sum up the way I felt this song does it perfectly... This small lady who was dressed in green was in a dream a week before her passing and said to be her mother. I should have known her time was limited. I'll always cherish Steve's music a true legend at speaking his emotions through his guitar. Thanks dude!
WOW. Steve, that was incredible. Just incredible. I’ve been listening to you since Flexable, and have loved everything, but this… this is one of the finest pieces of music you’ve ever written. Your playing is exemplary. The subtlety and nuance in the beginning was breathtaking, and the frighteningly explosive and beautiful lead lines you let loose blew my mind. I know I’m gushing but I don’t care. This was something else. Amazing.
Stevie, I don't know if you'll see this but my dad had a stroke on June 29th and was able to come see you in Clarksburg WV on July 28th. You're music touched his soul and helped him feel better. Thank you for being such a legend 🤘
My favorite element of Steve's music is how many of his note choices stretch the ear's comfort zone, notes that sound "wrong" and perfect, at the same time, music that challenges notions. Good stuff.
"Hi, I'mma just gonna sprinkle these 1-bar key changes, arrhythmic passages that wind back into time and off beat dissonances and you will LIKE it" -Steve Vai, probably. Because I did like it, awesome work.
A sonic journey, Moving outside the body into a sonic realm always wanting but yet discovered.. A Cosmic meeting, The Big Bang proven with musical note's.
I wish I had the bucks to go see Steve in Fort Lauderdale, my only chance and broke at 76 years old, that sucks as I LOVE his music and this new tune is AWESOME AS HELL, DAMN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always said it since i have 7 years old. SV is the best Guitarist (Musician) in the World, all styles included, since the Guitare was discovered. I think that he just reach a level that no body else did and will do. I think that if ZAPPA would be alive today, he would probably fired STEVE because he couldn't understand and follow STEVE musically. God Bless you Man, for all the inspiration you provide, even if i am a drummer.
What a gift! While experiencing this wonderful expression I drifted off In thought about the creations we’ve missed out on by losing some of the greats much too young. Like Hendrix. For all the beautiful music he created, we can only imagine what he and others would’ve created if they had lived longer. And like EVH, Vai too is a pioneer whose passion clearly emanates through his spirit.
@@luvaholic what absolute bullshit, hendrix is the reason guitarists like via and EVH could do what they did, no hendrix would mean we'd still be in the dark ages with electric guitar.

How, just how can so much talent exist in one human being ? Even the one handed stuff he was playing after his surgery. Mr.Vai just knocks me out. That circle like vibrato he does is unique to him and him alone. Just an amazing performer all the way around. Thank you for sharing it with us.
"How, just how can so much talent exist in one human being?" He releases a little at a time through albums and live performances, sort of like a pressure relief valve. If he stops, he'll explode.
Getting into Vai and Zappa this last week has been like the door opening after I shut the door, on twitter and just before that the worldwide fripp movie. What a trip .. this is fabulous, am so grateful
I’ve been listening to him since the beginning. This is one of the best records he’s made. Going to see it live this fall. I hope more than once. I got tickets to one of them already.

This is how the blues should be played in 2022. Steve Vai is always a guitar pioneer. Excellent playing and tone!
fully agree with You...just fresh sounding, innovative ,not living in the past like John Mayer...
Blues in 2022 should by played like blues. Blues in 2132 should be played like blues.
Soloing is mostly jazz based with ending on blues progressions. Nice mix, and of course creativity is just wonderful.

Steve is so quirky and unique and absolutely insane. A lot of Lydian mode.

In reality there's no such thing as wrong notes. You can use any note in any key just depends on the context of how you use it.
This álbum is a lot of Mahavishnu John McLaughlin’s passed through the touch and style of Vai. I love it!!
So much stuff going on here.... You're like the wine, the older you get the better your music tastes! Love this song

What a musical wizard.
We all know Vai can shred but the composition levels here are mind-blowing.
Similarly to Marty Friemdan, Vai doesn't like to be referred to as a shredder, but a musician.
Favorite song on the album and quite possibly my new favorite Vai song, just so damn good. Time to see the Legend Live!
He was awesome in Louisville; won't forget the whole experience

Il mondo si divide in due: Chi ama Mr. Vai e chi non ama la musica. 😊😊👏👏👏
Incredible, there's so much Steve in here but also, what feels to me at least, such a delicate tribute to Jeff Beck.
The seventh song of this album, as usual he saves the best for this piece. Superb!
Selfless, A gift from one mans soul to the world. Thanks for gifting the world a sheltered place. Peace Bro bro. 🪐

I couldn’t agree more. His creativity with melody is so unusual and beautiful, it grabs your ear every time
The dissonance might actually be the premise behind why this song is called “Greenish Blues”
Now this is what I'd expect of mr vai after so many years,
An incredibly beautiful masterpiece.

Wild Sound! Not afraid to stretch the possibilities and it sounds like hes getting more refined in his tone more than ever. Truly a gift to us all
When the supporting instruments back off and the guitar is holding like 19 or 20 on the e string you know theres about to be some sick descending run.
