Sumatran Coffee is the most well known coffee from Indonesia in the western world, however it's not the "Best" we have, it's the quirkiest.
due to the natural processing it often described to be heavy, woody, and earthy. and the coffee you get from the traditional sellers would't be the best example to enjoy it just because "it would not be palatable for westerners". and it's not just sumatra, across Indonesia traditionally we don't enjoy coffee with all the modern coffee fuss. we roasted the beans almost to a charcoal, and we adds sugar (in jogja, people literally add wood charcoal lol).
anyway, if you wanna experience all the subtlety of Indonesian coffess, try modern or upscale coffee places. and try beans below

Yeah, that’s what I thought too. Just go to the supermarket and take the food back to the hotel and eat it.
What do you mean respect the local? Isn't the obligation to fast to allow you to xperience hunger in daily life? Like the genuine homeless and beggars?
Defeats the purpose if you cannot resist temptation. Beggars sit outside cafes and move around shops and food stalls. Are you supposed to stop eating or selling food bcos there are hungry people around who can't afford to buy food?

Yes .... but if you have to travel say for two days during Ramadan as a muslim you are allowed to break your fast for the period of travel .... but you have to add those travel days that you broke your fast onto your fasting period .... ie: your normal fast will end on the 30th of the fasting month .... but yours will end on the 02nd of the next month.

Until they step out of tourist “boundaries”, and don’t need a guide(basically protection, because they’re all male)
I’d like her to go to a regular neighborhood, not a tourist city- and walk around, as a white, non-Muslim woman. No guide either.
She would be singing a WHOLE different song…
Owh yeah, u're right. In fact WW1, WW2 , invasion by American, colonialism through all continents by European, Mexican Drug cartels, the Split of Korea were started by Islamist. Right?
Is that why they're holy war has went on for hundreds of years
Who invaded iraq 🤔
I've lived in aceh as a Catholic for almost two decades. Back then I can practice my faith without no problem. We have our own church and sunday school. Pork and alcohol is also available even though only on special regulated stores. Ironically now I'm a Mulim I now don't have the chance to visit aceh again
May God have mercy on your soul for leaving the TRUE FAITH!

thank you very much for visiting Aceh, and also thank you for showing another side of Aceh
aceh has alot of beautiful islands, breathaking beaches, wild national parks, etc etc..and also it has incredible history, people, and foods..aceh people struggling from alot of things, rebelry, tsunami, syari'ah law, etc2..it's the privince that almost independence..
sharia is not struggle, its peace of mind as a muslim
noo, sharia law never struggling us,i can tell that because im from aceh
Shariah law protects their lives and hard-earned money from crooks. It protects their daughters and sons from being promiscuous and spreading STIs. Only criminals are scared of Shari’ah.
Great video I think you did ache justice, friendly Indonesians and so happy to engage you. Well done I can’t wait to go there
if u deeply think about it, fasting from islamic teaching is really good for ur physical body and soul ..it can reset ur metabolism system and slowly removing any toxic substances inside on ur body and it can make clearing ur mind from bad desire that categorical sins as for ur soul.
SEBENARNYA SHARIA LAW DI ACEH TIDAK TERLALU KETAT BILA DIBANDINGKAN DENGAN NEGARA ISLAM YG MENGGUNAKAN SISTEM SHARIA JUGA SAYA MALAH SUKA KARENA BISA MELINDUNGI ANAK ATAU SAUDARA PEREMPUAN KITA.SEPERTI KASUS KEHAMILAN REMAJA YG BANYAK TERJADI DI BANYAK DAERAH LAIN GOOD JOB ACEH..
malaysia syariah law is more tighter than indonesia...
Buset capslocknya matiin om
pernah kenalan dg seorang TNI dulu, dia bilang aceh ini tempat yg paling nyaman untuk membesarkan anak, saya tdk perlu terlalu kawatir dg perkembangan anak saya karena lingkungan sudah mendidik dan mengontrolnya dg sangat baik. sebagai seorg tentara kan sering dipindahtugaskan sesuai kebutuhan, jadinya tdk mgkin mengontrol anak beliau setiap hari. disini anak2 pagi sekolah, siang ke sore TKA/TPA, malam ngaji lagi di rumah guru ngaji. waktu anak benar2 selalu dalam pengawasan dan pendidikan. gitu lebih kurang pengakuan beliau.
Bener bang kami etnis di sini suka ketawa kalau liat komen orang luar Aceh . Apalagi yg ngatain Aceh itu intoleran . Padahal yg Komen gitu belum Pernah ke Aceh cuma modal liat di sosmed doang di bikin lah sama mereka stereotip buruk 😂😂

this is Indonesia, have the province Aceh (sharia law). and u can find a whole different side in province Bali. unite in 1 country. amazing!
World visit bali as it is not yet become Muslim ,no one wants to visit people practicing some 7th century backward cult , temples , monastery in bali are older than that 😂
The people are so kind and welcoming. How beautiful.
Thanks for sharing this video. Take care of yourself. Cheers from Brendan in Malaysia 🥂🫶🏼
woah thats my city, thank you for coming...
Woo thank you for having me 😁😁
welcome to Aceh.
it's okay to stay late night as women at the cafe especially non-muslim. the law only apply to the muslim that have Aceh KTP(license).
infact this is the safest city you can stay late night without getting robbed.
KTP is not a license, it's an ID
A very Interesting Video. Whilst the people are united and contended under Sharia Law, I would not want this imposed say, here in the UK. I am a practicing Roman Catholic and my faith means everything to me. If this nation becomes Muslim, they will demand that each one also convert to being a Muslim. If not they will charge a tax! This would not be tolerated by me and many others. And of course their extreme penalty is death!
And in Iran they killed a young woman for not wearing her hijab. Horrendous. And women have to be 2nd class. Walk behind their men.
Europe won't turn into islam if we stand for Christianity. We need to help young atheists to get to know Jesus Christ . Additionally muslim population in Europe must decrease.Let s pray fervently.
Why should there be Sharia law in the UK?
@@promi429 Why not?
It is honestly so cool of you to travel completely out of your comfort zone. It is so considerate of you to tolerate their rules and regulations, despite not agreeing with them. I honestly find it so interesting that you chose this place to travel to. Perhaps one day I’ll get to visit Aceh, God willing.

This is so true, and such a nice comment to receive on this video. Thank you so so much for leaving it 🤍🤍🙏
Am I watching a video from Sweden France England Belgium in the future? I know very well that I have no confidence in drinking a Heineken in public in some Islamic ghetto in these countries, yes, Europe has reached that point.
Thank you Josie for being respectful toward us, and by the way, if you want to take away food, you can call it "bungkus", they will wrap it up for you to take away.
Hey, just wanted to say that I appreciate your honesty. Sometimes people tend to shy away from expressing their opinions but glad that you’re not one of them. I’m glad that you’ve told the locals that you don’t believe in anything, it’s a lesson for them that not everyone who’s not Muslim is automatically a Christian 😁 I’m also happy to hear things that you don’t agree with.
In general, provinces in Indonesia have less autonomy than states in Australia, but the province of Aceh is an exception as it’s considered a special region so they have their own bylaws. One thing to be aware of is that these bylaws are usually results of political maneuvering. Politicians might propose a bylaw to make themselves look pious and thus boosting their political careers.
The curfew for women was actually put in order during the time of a female mayor in Banda Aceh, while one who wanted to lift it was a male governor. This doesn’t actually point out to anything for them as individuals, it’s just politics. As in other places around the world, religions are potent when used as political tools.
Cheers from the province of South Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia 🇮🇩🍻🇦🇺
We can't judge faith of peoples, and syariah law is agreement of aceh peoples, not politic of some leaders
No, you are wrong, there is no political intention regarding the implementation of Islamic law in Aceh..and the Acehnese have long loved and applied Islamic law..you should not give wrong information to tourists
@@HeroeS-m6t OK 👍
@@Tank-Baja1925 cool story, bro 👍
she said that just to become cool saying I don't believe in anything is weird like what people gonna do with your body after your death when you don't believe in anything ? funny thing is after few hours she changed her statement and said I'm not very religious I mean sister there is difference between being not religious and not believing in anything.
Lovely message at the end there, Josie.
You were very respectful following their culture. I wish Muslims would follow ours when coming here.
Some do while some not
@@Sohan_15but they have a choice.
@@tevaz5001 What I'm trying to say is that Some Muslims follow the cultures of the country they are visiting but some do not
@@Sohan_15 I got it. But non Muslims aren’t able to follow their own customs when traveling in a Muslim country, as we can see in this video. I wish we all had the same standards. In other words, non Muslims should be free to eat and drink whatever they wish during Ramadan while in a Muslim country.
@@tevaz5001Actually, the rules in Aceh are cultural, not Islamic. Qatar, Saudi, Kuwait also have Islamic sharia law but they are different, somewhat modern and open but there are limitations. The understanding of the ulama and Muslims in Aceh is still as strict as in Yemen, Afghanistan, Iran, unlike other moderate ones. It takes time to change their minds to follow other Muslims who are open.
Such great idea to visit the city of syariah ACEH ...
Actually no big different with others city in indonesia...only straight law and regulation base on islam syariah law ...
Very simple way is just follow the rules or law ..
Nothing is huge or scarry thing, just being to understand what is it..
Simple simple law like any moslem country ... No bikini open dressed no rude manners like other culture no drunk or any alcohol ...the rest is normal life ..nothing to be worried or and scare of ..
But aware the manner and dress or any attitude ...
Like when you visit malaysia or singapore ..same with straight rule and regulation ...as long as we do care and obey ...nothing to be worries ...
Event you made mistaken and in unpurposes...they still has undesttanding tolerance for mistaken because you are just visitor ot just normal tourist who has own background and religion ...we still do have understanding or tolerance as long as not happening (again) for the second time ...
We always welcome
We still has lovely smile ..warm and love to connected ..like typical indonesian people.
So nothing to be worries or scarred ...
To be honest .. i love this city ..there is some benefit when we implement some straight law...
Save travel to you all...
people need to read your comment. it's a brilliant explanation. ❤
Why implement Sharia on non Muslims ??
"No alcohol" you know just normal, normal for who Muslims, so like wine with dinner and that's a problem, how ridiculous is that.
الله يرحم اللي توفوا من التسنامي يعتبرون شهداء لانهم غرقوا
nothing to worry about sharia law... just to respect the culture each other, Please visit Sabang Island also Iboh Island near Banda Aceh, you will find crystal clear sea and wonderful spot for snorkling and diving
Josie seems very sweet and I’m glad people were so kind and helpful.
Intresting. Thank you ❤
In Indonesia, when people say milk, mostly it refers to condense milk, not just a full cream milk like you have at Wollies or Coles. Thats why your coffee got sweet.
Religion should be personal.
