- I pick a list of 7 most difficult survival attacks in Touhou. But you know, I don't even know which is the number 1 most difficult or least difficult. It is so hard to decide which is harder or easier, all of them were hard, so I decided to put a list without ranking them.
Survival spell cards are unique, difficult and challenging. It feels like the opponent challenges you to survive their game without you attacking back.They can't be stopped by speedkilling method like normal spell cards, you need to let the time run out.

We all know Icicle Fall is the STRONGEST spellcard ⑨/⑨
Sadly icicle fall isnt a survival spell, Zun had to nerf it cuz of how op it was

The most annoying part about "You May Grow Bigger!" is not about the patterns and all that... it looks as if YOUR hitbox grew larger but the truth is, your hitbox remains the same and that the BULLETS' hitboxes varied. So in some cases, even if you see yourself dodged the knives, you still end up getting hit X(. Definitely one of the hardest spellcards to capture. WHY ZUN?? WHYYYY

I dont get it... your hit box is still but looks bigger? and the bullets are big but looks smaller?
The thing with Clownpiece's first time out is that Normal is considerably harder than Hard in this scenario. The blue bullets are spawned randomly and more often. It's a great list though :D At first I thought only of Extra stage bosses because I completely forgot normal bosses.
Pepin Compare Easy to Normal, however, and you’ll really see that Normal is a step down.
Yeah it's much easier on hard, because the blue stars are really easy to avoid. You just need to learn to worry about the red shower. But on normal the blue stars are random and numerous so it can really catch you off guard

To me, I think "You grow bigger" is not about Difficulty and Challenge but Stupidity and Bad Hitbox Balance.
Really, I'm not playing Danmaku if this is NOT clearable. Except this SpellCard is one of the very few to be that stupid.
ZUN truly is skilled at making these Games.
Or else, there would not be Danmaku Amanojaku and its (almost) Impossible SpellCards.

I cleared a total of 60 out of 75 Scenes.
This, the janky hitboxes work fine when the sprite is as small as always, but once it gets that big it just feels bullshit.
Garland Arksoul I cleared all except the last day. Only managed to clear 3 from the last day
If your size/hitbox didn't change,it means easy spell capture.Shinmyoumaru just uses those easy mode attacks just to taunt your size.
And then came Okina’s final Spellcard

actually i kinda know a trick to that spell:
step one: use the summer sub season
step two: just get real close to mai and use the season release because it takes away almost half of the health bar thingy
step three: profit because it only uses one option at a time
it’s actually a trick i use for some of the stages just test it out on eternity’s first midboss nonspell lol

Spellcards for survival runs.
As for Junko's survival you must get out of these rings fast to misdirect the balls. Actually it's easier (for me) when the rhythm becomes faster.
Clownpiece's first survival is stupid in all difficulties. I never could capture this. Her second one is like her only fun (non)spell.
*Get bigger* is easier with Reimu because she has a lower hitbox. Still a tough but fun survival.

6:29 You Grow Bigger is extremely hard if you look at it as a "fit your giant hitbox in a tiny gap" pattern. It's much easier if you look at it as a streaming pattern. You don't need to interact with the blue kunais, you can just pretend they form a wall. Focus on streaming the white knives slowly, and don't hesitate to use the wall for extra vertical space.

Here's my thoughts about the Last Word of Eirin and Kaguya : Eirin's last word symbolises the night and the fake moon that leads to the events of the story, while Kaguya's Last Word symbolises the morning sun with every color that appears. At least, that's what I feel when I look at those two attacks.
Am I crazy, or does You Grow Bigger look easier on Lunatic than it does on Normal/Hard?

@@touhoufan7061 Yeah I second this, Gengetsu raep time is basically a survival spell, and on top of that it's probably the hardest spell to get through in Touhou history, because it goes so fucking FAST, the emulator can't keep up with it.

In terms of the amount of attempts they took to clear, Reimu's Fantasy Heaven (IN Last Word) was the hardest for me, followed by Junko's infamous Pristine Danmaku Hell.
Ralph Pootawn PDH isn't a survival spell.
I had a very hard time with Fantasy Heaven (can't capture it), so for me yes it's pretty hard.
Also, as said, PDH isn't timeout, but if it was top of hardest spells, it had to be in.
And Final Spring too.

The thing I really hate about Hourai Elixir is that out of the 2+ minute the whole spell is, only the last 20 seconds or has any sort of difficulty to it whatsoever, so you're basically forced to sit through 2 minute of boringness just to try the actual meat of the spell.

The Mamizou one is actually pretty easy if you just go to the sides instead of the bottom, this method made the spell card way more spread out and chaotic.
You forget reimu's "Musou Tensei" - appeared at touhou 8
You Grow Bigger is pretty static, but even then, you have to know through trial and error exactly where to go and when or else you get trapped.
That damn spellcard is my mortal enemy. So many SakuyaB runs lost to Shinmyoumaru...

When i saw the thing that started at 3:00, i started to question my abilites to even do it on normal, and i wouldn't bother to try it on hard or lunatic mode. That being said, the music was just right and it looked quite fun though.
This is final( or almost final) boss. So it is pretty logical that it should be hard to beat. Also, first part of the game is pretty easy(in comparison to other parts of the series), so I think it is some kind of balance.
It's a lot easier than it looks. A tip is to dodge the red and green bullets at the corner of the screen, as the gaps are bigger there.
And me here suffering with "Border of Wave and Particle" on Normal, and in SA btw.
That ones just about keeping a good flow going and staying calm. It's one where the moment you start feeling overwhelmed or panicked you're going to go down.

Mamizou’s MDITT spellcard is basically “Mamizou danmaku of jank hitboxes”
Almost every single one of these spells are either static or easily routable, I'm concerned why PWG is only number 5 and why the hell Rising World doesn't make an appearance, that spell can literally throw almost undodgeable walls at you.
The thing with Rising World is it can also not throw undodgable walls at you and be fairly okay.
Honestly surprised that you put clownpiece's survival on here. For me anyway, her survival cards are the easiest survival cards in the whole series for me. I can do it easily on lunatic (although normal is unironically harder) while I struggle to do most other survival cards in the series on normal.
For no matter how hard i try i could never capture maze of love or Q.E.D
14 and 15 for sure had some difficult spellcards. Even for me while playing on easy mode :
Hourai Elixir gave me vietnam flashbacks, I remember getting to Eirin and then she blasted me with this, I always thought I need to beat it for a better ending so it made me panic really hard.
Also in LoLK almost every spellcard is bs micro dodging, it's sad because other than it's bs difficulty it would be a quite enjoyable game with a really good cast of characters.

I think Mamizou's survival is easier to capture moving left to right. But def up to preference and still a tough card
If I think for the hardest spell, not only survive, I can only think the Devil's Recitation from Hijiri on TH12. It's a amazing spellcard to view anyway.

Have to disagree with "You grow bigger" being fun. The hitboxes are so wonky I never know when I die. I want to die cause I fail to dodge, not because the hitboxes make no sense.

Repusstax Raiko's time spell is difficult in the third waves, but not in first and second waves in my opinion. Yeah it still difficult, possibly number 8th on my list

Hourai elixer has no right to be in this list lmfao. It's not that bad to be honest, just long. Not to mention the fact that it's an optional spell anyway. Sure it feels badass but the fact that it slows down the game and the hitboxes in touhou 8 just being as small as they are... It's quite doable tbh.

It's not a survival by virtue of the boss still being shootable, so it doesn't fit the criteria of a survival attack.

Plus flandre is one of the easy ex bosses due to bullet limit in the system, and utsuho is just plain flashy, heck the Japanese fans even rated utsuho as easiest.
