Flying the Lake Buccaneer!

  • The Lake Buccaneer is an icon aircraft and a blast to fly. There is a little trick to landing, basically because there there is a ton of drag when the gear and flaps are down, but when you are on the water it's a whole different story.
    A friend and I left Peter O Knight airport in the Tampa area and headed over to the dozens of little lakes near Orlando for a series of touch and goes and to put the Buccaneer through her paces. This was a blast!
    The Lake Buccaneer is made for the water. A seaplane hull, the aircraft has retractable gear and a 200 HP engine. The Buccaneer also has a useful load of about 100lbs- which is a lot for this little aircraft. If you ever get the chance, fly one of these aircraft! You will be amazed.
    The Buccaneer is a ton fun on the water and handles like a speedboat with wings. Its a flying hull, so the Buccaneer rips along the water, so the feeling of speed is far exaggerated.
    Owning this airplane can be affordable. Have you always wanted to learn how to fly but now you are over 50? Get out there and start and learn! There are so many people in there 50's and 60's who are just starting to fly so what are you waiting for?

    Nice video......I got my Buccaneer when I was 65, and love it. I still have my Cardinal, but it can't compare to the Buc for fun and versatility.....BTW, the useful load in a mine is 1000 LBS.......Also, if the waves are hitting your nose gear doors while step taxiing, then you nose is way too low.

    Yeah, yeah….ever notice you don’t see bush pilots flying amphibs? The most practical mod for the Lske would be to put it on floats. Except for weight increase that would give access to docks, get you high enough to see dead heads, give you compartment floation for safety and increase wave tolerance…just sayin

    I’ve flown with a few guys who got in the habit of landing with a bunch of power. Big jets land with power at idle. Little prop planes usually can too. I’d be interested in learning if this was just a technique the guy has, or if most pilots land this model with power.

    • @Over50andLearningToFly
      @Over50andLearningToFly  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m pretty sure this model requires a little bit of power to land it just because there’s a ton of drag out when the gear and the flaps are down. Thanks for watching!

      Just completed my training on the LA-250, and you can land it without power.

    Cool airplane. Thanks for sharing. Is landing with power a compensation for poor teqnique or is it the only way to land this airplane?

    • @Over50andLearningToFly
      @Over50andLearningToFly  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t really know it’s my first time learning it but you do need a lot of power when the gear and flaps are down just because you got a lot of drag out. It’s a different airplane to land but it is really awesome nonetheless. Thanks for watching!

    The only thing that was missing was a shot to show the whole plane. I had to google it to figure out what it looked like

      I know I have several shots of it on the ground but nothing in the air I just have that one camera angle but it is a cool looking airplane and I may be doing more videos with the owner of this one. Thanks for watching!

    This seems very stupid to me, this plan was made to land and take off in the water, not jet ski around at speed. What am I missing?

    How would an engine failure be handled in this aircraft? Does the nose drop?

    • @Over50andLearningToFly
      @Over50andLearningToFly  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same as any other - nose drops slightly and pitch for best glide ... thanks for watching!
