Total confusion/babble to Lucidity/composure to wisdom in 8 minutes 😳

  • Dad was extremely confused. The confusion was building on itself and he was becoming extremely frustrated. I tried to help him clear his mind for a second (closing his eyes) and this time he was able to recover his composure and reach a moment of lucidity. It was a heartwarming transformation over 8 minutes.

@@slimkim2506 I too watched it with my Mom & you're right it is sad. But for all of those who come after us & will experience these same situations with their loved ones, these videos are informative. There are increases in cognitive diagnoses such as Dementia, Alzheimer's, Lewy Body Dementia, Frontal Temporal Lobe Dementia & others. For those of us who choose to keep our loved ones at home, whether by choice or because of the cost of Nursing Homes usually requiring a full time aide or nurse, a Memory Care Facility or Full Time Skilled Care, people need to know what they're getting into by making the choice Dan & his family have made.

My dad didn't even have dementia, he was just aging & pumped full of drugs that were confusing him. He was a major person in management at AT&T, with a full life, & very smart. We all took care of them both, and just this evening, I was sitting on the porch with my aunt when we figured out that we both watch the Salinger's channel. We concurred that we really could have benefitted from having Dan's videos then; he is amazing with Ed. And you can't help but love Gpa, even the ones I watch through tears, I'm still smiling. We just think they would be happier and healthier being around their family. My father had dementia for the last part of his life, but he was lucid for the most part I really wish I could have back even 1 of those days with him. His passing was very hard on the family but watching your video is tremendously healing for me. "People Like To Get Helped"
    Thank you Dr Ed!🥰
These days, a few doctors and nurses, need to remember that. I know they're shortstaffed, but patients are in pain, and still need their kindness and HELP!
And Dan could easily be a therapist! 😌closing my eyes

Your patience is so admirable Dan. My 86 year old mother is starting beginning stages, which is why I’ve followed you for quite awhile now. I’m trying to learn patience. The other day she asked me which Seattle Mariners newscaster left the pregame show and why (she’s a huge Mariners fan, never misses a game) I said I don’t know mother. She continued on, and this happens more often now. I actually got her the Alexis Echo so she could ask the weather forecast (another constant topic to overcome daily). Huge mistake! I realized I just need to get more patience especially after spending 3 hours trying to explain how Alexis works. It’s difficult at times, but as the only daughter it’s now my responsibility to take care of her. God bless you guys and thank you for a lot of insight to this debilitating disorder.

I bumped across your family's page and I don't normally comment. But I simply had to. Your patience and care for him is both breathtaking & soothing for me. 😊I'm grateful that you're sharing your experiences/conversations with your dad because it triggers many warm memories of my mom!
My mom went to heavena last December and the last few days of her earthly existence was the hardest for my sister and I! These videos remind me of our conversations over the last few years and although I didn't think to record her I really should've she was so intelligent, funny, scolding and loving in the same 3 minute conversation.😊
Continued blessing and strength to your family.

I wish when my grandmother was still alive I would have thought of such a simple thing as closing your eyes and relaxing to have made life easier. Hope this continues to work well with your dad keep up the good work and know you may have touched on something no one else has thought to do. @dsalnorcal1434 Dan, you're welcome but there is no need to thank me! I spent many years working with patients who had dementia and although I loved my job...it's a very sad world for many of them. I'd work many of the big holidays and my patients would be sitting there alone...no family visits...nothing...and it broke my heart. You and your family brought Ed home...where he belongs and in loving memory of everyone I ever cared for...we all thank YOU guys!!

I have never seen anything so heartbreaking yet so endearing all at the same time. I lost my father to cancer in 2021 and my mother to cancer in 2022. My father was diagnosed with early onset Dementia about a year before he was diagnosed with cancer. The cancer took him out swiftly within six months, so thankfully, for him, he did not have to endure the progression of dementia. I cared for both my mother and father right up until the day they died and it is so heartwarming to see your family love and care for your father the way you do. Had my father lived long enough to go through a process similar to your fathers, I would’ve stood by his side until the very end. I had wonderful parents that gave me the world and I would’ve given back to them everything I had to give until I had nothing left. God bless you and thank you for sharing this journey with us. My father was also a doctor… an optometrist ❤ the take away from all of this is that if you love your parents and are able to, please do take care of them as much as humanly possible. You will miss them so very much when they are gone.
