I spent many days and nights there in the 80s. It was great in the day. A friend of mine had a teepee and we would play music. There is a cold seep down the wash with a clay deposit we would go there naked and cover ourselves with clay and then walk around like aborigines. After about 3 days of this your skin would feel great. By the way it wasnt a real hot spring. It was a well that was drilled for geothermal but didnt have enough flow so it was capped. Some guys found it on a county map in the 60s and knocked the cap off. Over time we built the two pools and a gate between to regulate the temp. Planted bamboo and put flagstone rocks around it. Tamarisk's root systems can grow thirty feet deep to reach water. They are actually a threat to water table levels as a large Tamarisk (also known as a salt cedar) will 'drink' 200 gallons a day! Early morning on January 1, 1990 I woke up and couldn't sleep so I walked out to the hot pool and watched the sun rise. We visited OH MY GOD HOT SPRINGS many times. There were permanent residents and visitors. There were tents, cars, campers, RV's and trailers. There was also a self-appointed "mayor". The Camping Bares camped there on occasion. The whole thing was man made. It wasn't a natural spring. There were a series of pools all cooler then the last. I have no photos as taking pictures of naked people is dicey at best. Driving out from San Diego we would arrive with ours minds at city speed. It would take several days to slow down to desert speed. When we arrived we were like the buzzing creatures in Star Trek, like we were at 78 rpm. The locals were running at 33 rpm, if not slower. You could drive a regular car out to the springs. The off roaders didn't come by all the often as they were extremely noisy and irritating.
one old fart to another, just have to say my kid discovered my old record collection, found a Jimmie Hendrix LP, played it at 45 and still thought it was brilliant music, then discovered that there was ANOTHER SIDE! (unlike a CD which dates not only my kid but me)
Memories and thanks for sharing the current status. I used to explore the area in 1985 (Geology student) and came across this little oasis. There were three pools, each cooler than the first. The first pool was very nice at around 104 degrees while the second pool was bigger and was 99 degrees. I remember a woman who soaked in the third pool and screamed when she got out; there were little worms all over her body. There were a few people who seemed to be hanging out there, but most would stop by and have a dip. Motor homes with whole families would come out there and chill. I used this site as a base camp when I would explore the surrounding area. A great place for resting the weary bones and muscles. I'm sorry to see it covered up.
I worked as a park aid at Anza Borrego State Park in 1976-77. I was based at the camp headquarters in Borrego Springs. We used to go to Oh My God Hot Springs various time throughout the year. My favorite time was at night so one cd lay back and enjoy a starry night in 120 degree water. In those days there was an Imperial County sign right where the road that lead to OMG hot springs. As one drove toward Salton Sea from Anza Borrego the road was windy as it skirted the base of the Santa Rosa mountains . About 2 miles after the road hit the flats one would see the sign. The springs were Les then a mile from the road. Back then people took care of it and never left trash . Sad to hear of its demise. BTW: The story I heard back in the 70’s regarding its name was that the fellow who drilled the well yelled Oh My God when he hit hot water, expecting normal spring water…not because people reacted that way when they saw “naked hippies.”
I think I found OMG in a book about Anza Borrego SP, or maybe one of the George Williams hot springs books. But I do remember a map somewhere. It was actually a hot well that was dug to water a possible golf course, but was too salty. It was a pretty cool place but already had some shady characters by the late 80's. BTW on the map I saw it was called OMG hot well.
If you get stuck in the sand with a four-wheel-drive, don’t bury yourself, air down your tires pretty far and you should get out. Drive to a gas station and fill them back up, or if you have your own pump use it.
The way to not get stuck 4-wheeling is to not go where you don't feel comfortable. I've been four wheeling for 40 years and the number of times I've been stuck you can count on one hand with fingers left over and that's because if I didn't feel comfortable going down there I didn't go and I have had to tow a lot of people who were stuck. trust me you made the right decision..

It was really nice of you to take the time since the sign the park installed years ago disappeared recently and the frame is just left there . I will go see it soon. I mean you never even went there before and did something so special. I have a lot of memories of that place in the early 80's. George was the mayor of the hot springs. Wow, did we have a good time!!!
Super stoked you finally found the ‘Oh my God hot springs’! I’ve always wondered exactly where that was too cause I’ve heard so dang much about it throughout the years. Especially living close by in San Diego and going to the Slabs all the time and hear about the ‘Into the Wild’ lore that permeates the culture down there, it was great to solve that little mystery of the story as to where those hot springs were. That was some pretty impressive blood hound work you guys did in tracking the whereabouts of that down. And now thanks to your fantastic sleuth work and sussing out the location I’ve now got it pinned on my Google map as well for evermore, thanks!
Let some air out of each tire about 10 or 20 pounds but you got to have a way to put it back it won't hurt anything you go through that sand like butter

That was a very artistic tribute thank you for your hard work
Scott's T shirt features Paeroa. There are hot springs there and was the original source of a soda drink , "Lemon & Paeroa".
Very cool vlog ! Everything except water, Some of your better work. 85 in San Diego today and my beer is cold and life is good. Yours in peace
78 in Van Nuys and getting there. Glad to know the beer is still cold. Peace 🙏
It amazes me that the only song the public knows of Joni Mitchell's is "Parking Lot!" I would faint someday if somebody sang a different song of hers.
Some of your art major was useful there girl, love your enthusiasm for life!
Besides your videos, your historical narratives are sooooo interesting and addictive....and especially when you whisper to only me....
You are such an awesome artist!!! That mosaic is so cool!! 😎
Same here bro. And especially if you only have one vehicle & no retrieval equipment, air pump, drinking water etc.
Oh by the gods !i just started watching!you are fantastic! Ever come to eastern utah /nw colo i have some crazy ass shit to show you ,would have to be summer at this elevation, love your videos😍
I love hearing stories like this.
Ill have to admit that was some pretty incredible detective work, and that mosaic was AMAZING. Especially since you made it with only trash from the area that's been there for 30 years!
"Boots on the ground" and "Eyes in the sky" that drone ya got is a great tool. It can see real far, BUT, ya did find it after all. Eureka!! Nice art work. Sand? reduce tire PSI, ya got a compressor.
You are a very interesting and entertaining young woman. How funny I watched dozens of your videos and never noticed the under arms before you mentioned it. Keep up the great work and thank you.
Sorry but a Boons Farm bottle would clinch it!
Congratulations!!!!!!!! I hope you brought home those old stubbie glass bottles. They're a collectors item!
The mosaic you created is beautiful ❤️.
OMG! What a great homage you built, you must be very good at mosaics. Wonderful - Wonderhussy!
Sarah you did an excellent job on the art work ❤️👍🤩
Thanks for doing the new monument. My friend, Bandana Bob, just told me about it and showed me pictures a few days ago.
Thanks for speaking up from the "original citizenry" and for honoring that beautiful mosaic that Sarah left.
Hurray another adventure!
When driving in soft sand let at least half the air out of your tires and put the pedal to the metal
Congratulations on your successful invisable hot spring hunt!
Let some air out of each tire about 10 or 20 pounds but you got to have a way to put it back it won't hurt anything you go through that sand like butter
WonderHussy! So very much enjoyed this video. The determination, ingenuity, and general git-er-dun attitude of you two are an inspiration to all of us.
And your artwork at the end! Wonderful stuff.
I been to the Oh My God Hotspring. The the next time I went it was gone. There is hot water coming up out of the ground all over the place. When I was there, there was a group of wine drinking hippies running around naked.
That is precisely how I drink my wild turkey. I love it with the bite of the ginger beer. Nice video you guys congratulations.
As of December 8, 2021…that OMG Hot Springs sign has finally been replaced! My son works there and he sent me pics of the new sign ❤️
Yeeha I did not think you would find it well done for sticking at it.
Cruise out to Bakersfield, CA and we'll take out to the Miracle hot springs!
You have to love California where they put ATM machines out in the desert to collect fees to use public lands LOL
Your art is in the spirit of the best vagabond desert art!
I wish I could tell you where it is but that's a long time ago. I live there for a year with two girls from high school in a and around 1975 ish lots of good times and plenty of good smokes if you know what I mean anyway good luck and In Joy
Great find into the wild world turkey tour with sunset location paradise & availability accommodation site page. Cheers mate Jh
Ingenious use of trash medin artifacts to make an impressive piece of art. 👍
Now you've done it !
My face is stuck on GBS. (GREAT BIG SMILE) for the rest of the day. Thank you again Sara. You truly are a WONDER.
the eagerness and willingness to help you find that spring that your guide is exhibiting is understandable. especially before the weather get worse, you know , where one would need clothes
to stay warm or not get too sunburned, you know , all over.
Omg ty! Your videos are always so interesting. 💙 They make me want to go on adventures.
Cheers! Here's to naked hippies!👀🙄🤓
Nice mosaic WH! Thanks for the fun adventure!
