Deadmau5 produced Drum & bass and jungle as Karmak and Halcyon441 during between 1998-2002. so he basically went back to his roots
Nice. I'll have to check that out.
Karma K, hell yeah lol he did a lot of breakbeat/glitch stuff
Discogs says hes only made 1 track under Karma K and its a breakbeat remix of Revenge Of The Egg People - I'm Electric
Joel made dnb before so this is more like a throwback to his roots and it's always nice to see that
I'm gonna have to check out his old stuff.
Gotta respect deadmau5, rarely repeats himself and does both the mixing and mastering himself. (same cannot be said for the other edm artists today...(pretty sure tiesto hasn't produced anything himself in years)).
I always just figured he was a generic festival dj. It's good to see how many people respect him as an artist.
you mistaking that producing and mixing are the same peoples job man. One is tehnical skill, but producing is the person telling you how to improve your creation or even picks the sounds, aranges them and builds tracks. Mixer is someone who gets your stuff and make it a good quality for release and play
@@frenkyboydnb modern djs are producers, engineers/programming the tracks they release. there is no backseat producing like tiesto
@@tom7131 in perfect world mabey, but not all. Know loads that made it to big stages without ever making a beat. But again, being a producer, mix eng or mastering eng and DJ are 4 completely different things, as well as being a musician. I do all but mastering and event production. So would never take a DJ gig where I need to produce. Simply apples and oranges. Oh and when I say never did a beat, means they go nothing, not even ghost produced. But then again, Tiesto produces his music, but pay for mix and master. Also ton of people do it thattway. Me I am just stubborn that way, to produce, mix and DJ them
@@frenkyboydnb I think you just read the comment wrong, he said he does the mixing and mastering himself. He is a producer who mixes and masters his own music. Nobody said producing and mixing are the same thing lmfao
I'm not too deep into Deadmau5 but isn't he one of the more respected Djs/Producers out there? I'm pretty sure he knows how to build and play a Set regardless of the genre.
Deadmau5 is a true artist. He can produce. Then mix and master his tunes and also create the cover art. Him putting out a piece of art that's truly him. That's not a common thing in our world. Respect BeersandBeatspdx

Damn, I hate when I don't reply with my damn DJ channel.
The pictures surfaced years ago of Joel from the 90s rave scene, the jncos and plush backpacks... surely he's not new to DnB ;)
The dream of the 90s DnB is alive in Portland 😎
It certainly is!!
I am no fan of conventional 4/4 130bpm type stuff, but deadmau5 does some really interesting stuff and the mixes are insanely punchy.
this aint 130bpm boss...like 170-174
@@djoctus6332 Was referring to his "usual" tech output.
deadmau5 is still dope
Sure is
I wasn't aware that DM played some Drum and Bass, but thanks to your honest review, I'm now intrigued to check it out. 🤔 Your review was refreshingly honest, and I appreciate that you mentioned DM's visual immersion in the music. 🎵👀 It's always unbearable to watch DJs fake their performance, but it seemed like DM was really vibing with the music. 🕺💃 Thank you for sharing your thoughts. 🙏
I think he was just playing random tunes off a mates USB. After he stopped playing, he said "man this is just fast dubstep, I prefer the old stuff like Bad Company and Hotel." Nobody clipped that bit though.
"fast dubstep" has been a joke for decades.
@@BeersAndBeatsPDX Sure but he was referring to all the jump up stuff he was playing. He was saying that in contrast to the older stuff he's into. Unforunately I don't think anybody recorded any of that.
that's funny lol i too prefer the older stuff. i'm partial to the Moving Shadow era. Metalheadz is one of my favorite labels for current dnb
He 100% was just joking. He plays tons of jump up in his actual dnb sets
@@CptShiba well he's fully embraced the jump up now it seems
dead mow fyfe
This is a dope video dude, I really like Deadmau5’s stuff and the only reason I haven’t seen him live is because the show I was going to got cancelled cos of Covid. You’ve got my sub!
Yo, thanks! I never paid much attention to him because i figured he was just a generic festival house dj. It's nice to be proven wrong sometimes.
@@BeersAndBeatsPDXhe’s definitely never been the generic one! that’s for sure!
As far as I know, Joel doesn't consider himself a DJ, he recently learned how to use a CDJ, he posted it on his media not long ago.
I guess he's just trying something different, good artist are good at reinventing themselves.
For someone who doesn't consider themselves a dj, he's pretty good at djing
House. Trance. Dnb. Jungle. Happy hard-core. Techno. Dubstep. Hardhouse. Hard-core. Downtempo. Pystrance is all in the same party. Ect. Who cares if he plays dnb. All djs have a collection. Have multiple genres. It's the same thing. Just beat matching. I don't think it's such a big deal that he's just mixing dnb instead of house. He prob got bored of 130bpm. And changed it up. Everyone can do this and everyone probbaly does.
I think it's a big deal. The dnb/jungle crowd has ALWAYS been shoved in the back rooms with the shit sound systems. Over the past 10 years dnb has been growing and someone like deadmau5 playing dnb with passion brings a sort of legitimacy. We're not the forgotten ones anymore shoved in to the closet stage.
I can't remember as I never neccesarily watched the stream fully, but if I remember correctly, this was him just "testing out" CDJs as he really doesn't like to use them, but a lot of big places only provide him with those, so he wanted to get more used to them, and just did a CDJ.
Though take that with a grain of salt, as I know nothing about that, and only heard it circulating around.
Seems like an interesting thought. I know the feeling. I only play vinyl and only get booked a few times a year now since no one brings tables to events anymore. I should put on my big boy pants and learn cdj's.
he’s been producing some dnb as well, he been posting snippets on ig
I was just wondering about that because it's very rare to see him ever use CDJs. I remember even during his testpilot DJ streams, he would be using his mixer with something else that wasn't CDJs. I remember seeing old videos of him playing at some malls in Canada, using a laptop (Ableton) and a mixer
Great video. Crazy to think he's going b2b with Andy C in LA
That's absolutely bananas
I mean, Spor and Noisia were on his roster on mau5trap in the 2010s and i'm pretty sure he has literally toured with every dj known to man, so I wouldn't really care if it's good or not, what matters is the mau5head and him ranting every time his laptop crashes.
when you pause the video to read the song ID, the video UI covers the ID. I remember youtube in 2008 when the video UI never covered the actual video, or made it dimmer. Why did it become a trend to make video UIs OBSCURE the actual video when you pause it???
Oh, shitty. That's something I didn't even consider when placing the titles.
i have mixed feelings about him still. I respect what he does as a DJ but personally, i don't listen to any of his music. to me, he feels like he needs to stay relevant with the community.
To me he seems like someone who is using fame to get what he really wants which is to nerd out on streaming and modular synths.
his breakcore tracks from back in the day were always pretty hectic
Noice. A lot of the comments are saying he was big in to dnb back then. I'll have to check it out
I love DeadMau5, and some DnB, but this sound to close to Dubstep. Not bad though!
Some of it is very dubsteppy but I think the majority are some pretty deep rollers
I've wanted to see these sets from a pro dj perspective mainly to know what should I focus when i study. tysm for this
"professional" is a bit of s stretch but I do enjoy the art of mixing. thanks for watching!
Oh shit! You hit a goldmine with this vid, checked your channel and vid views, dude, you know what you need to do, mix reviews. ❤ congratulations on the views.🎉🎉🎉
GREAT CHANNEL! Subbed bro
Thanks!
great overview and insight. Awesome video brotha
Thanks bro!
Cant hammer people? LOL You've never heard Breakcore! LOL
Hahaha for sure. There's always exceptions.
A ton of house djs also play dnb. Atleast they were my top 2 go too when djing
There's def an overlap in mixing styles with house and dnb.
At least its not at a festival exploiting the sound like so many new jacks. He is also old AF like me so I am sure he has been privy to it for quite some time.
He's been in Fox Stevenson's streams so he must've been keeping an eye on the scene since at least 2020
@@drwhocrazed Im sure he was a fan of dnb long before anyone knew who Fox was.
In an insta comment replying to UKF, he said that he’s always been a dnbhead.
"you cant just hammer people" LIES! ;-)
Remember what the judge said about playing with hammers!
Should check out some of the DnB remixes of his tunes too.
For sure!
Is there a link on TH-cam to this DNB live stream set?
Should be in the description
That’s where I looked, but I didn’t see it there…
Updated the description with the link @@dumattco
Thank you so much, I had several friends that were at red rocks just a little bit ago when he dropped some DNB, so I’m really really curious how the entire stream sounds :-)
Wow I didn't know Deadmau5 was even into Drum & Bass.😃
imagine deadmau5 would've released some remixes of his tunes by Nero :D
He used to make DnB music decades back

@@BeersAndBeatsPDX thank u very much nice video
DM said he uses prerecorded mixes.
That's not exactly what he said. He said it would be typical for djs at big festivals to play prerecorded sets. Does that include him? Most likely, but, it doesn't mean he only uses pre recorded sets.
@@BeersAndBeatsPDX ypu've got a loint here😉
I like turtles 🐢
Really like this set review stuff. Would really like to know what your view is on the TIDED_DNB sets on Twitch
I think I'm following him. Pretty sure we've ran in to each other here and there on raids.
This theory that you dont want banger after banger is rediculous. Guys like Andy C , Crissy Chris, Mampi Swift all drop banger after banger after banger double and triple drops galore. DnB for life!! Just saw Hedex take the roof off the building in NYC it was non stop heat.
Thumbs up just for Hello, this is dog. 👍🏾
Love your upside down Bale Breaker tin tacker! 😂
Great video, sir!
Well, thank you, sir! Too bad I didn't have it done when he was in stream last night. "Hey, Joel, while you're here check this out."
Big up, Matty!
Yooooooo!
I'm' bipolar so I know what it's like to ride the high and lows. we might have missed some pervious songs from that set.
I think there was one track cut off from when the person started recording
Deadmou5: "dubstep is just noise"
also Deadmou5: publishes Excision's X Rated dubstep album
also Deadmou5 when Gouki - Apocalypse drops: 2:09
😂
Hey dude, got a mix for you to analyze if you wanted to. Joe Ford's UKF winter 2018 has been in my playlist for years as likely the ultimate dark and neuro mix.
I'll check it out! Is it the Let It Roll set?
@@BeersAndBeatsPDX yessir
i didnt think he could do it but holy shit ineed him to make a dnb original
A lot of the comments say he did dnb back in the day. I'm gonna have to look it up
too much wub wub clownstep for my taste, but still 90 percent less than most of DJs nowadays, but some nice tracks for sure, and you are spot on with the set flow and quality of mixing.. anyways.. yeah im old
I wasn't subbed? What the hell?
I am going to listen to the mix so I can be objective and join the conversation, but great video, glad to see you back!
Thanks bro!
Also notice how he mixes without headphones.... not many guys can do that on the fly. what we hear is what he hears and mixes live. That takes knowing your set 100% and leaves no room for errors. The mouse is the goat.
Great video my good man! I absolutely love your editing, especially the 32, 64 bars bit, lol!
Thanks bro!
This dude sounds like he listen to music sober
Gotta do what you gotta do
they're called vibe lighters
Thanks for covering this!
Thanks for watching!
i like the part when it goes WUB WUB WUB tktktktk WUB WUB hkthkthkt spwhspwhspwh takatakataka BBBBBBBBBBB WUB WUB
That part is ok but the part that goes bwaaaah bwub bwub bwoooaaaaaoooowwwww

Only if it's from '97!
Well put together vid bro
Thanks, bro
Nice shirt !!!
I told you, I only own 2 shirts. !bottle and Darth Fader
these memes are off
hey google.. what are the most respected "new" dnb tracks (shit seems to be hot again for some reason) between 2020 and 2023... ok, got it.. i can fake that too...clip...copy...paste.. i'm legit now right? like that time i covered BoC? not just some random jock edm guy?
He strikes me as more of a Siri kind of guy
is going back to his Roots he is an amazing artist besides the media bs .
He doesn't have any headphones... 😅
Most likely beat and tempo sync
Don't really care about Deadmau five much but I subscribed for the Red Army tunes in the background of the video lol
Right on! I'll let him know.
lol this is so American it's unreal. 😅
Credit cards and Apple pie!
With roots in reggae and a base of UK
No American is in the drum n bass community. It’s a English sound. So u would be in the hip hop community
So then Concord Dawn, Pendulum, Noisia, Marky, D Kay, Rene Lavice, etc aren't considered part of the dnb community. Dnb is Global. Get over it.
@@BeersAndBeatsPDXindeed. And American DJ's like DB, Craze, Dieselboy, Dara and AK1200 have been playing and making DNB since they nineties.
if he doesn't use headphones is he really mixing? I don't think so
He's literally transitioning from one track to the other. Sounds like mixing to me.
@@BeersAndBeatsPDX when you program all the music, and you dont uses the headphones you are mixing with the eyes not whit your ears, thats not mixing.
@@n4zcadesign379 Programmined? Yeah, it's not programmed. He's mixing.
if he was using vinyl yes, but the CDJs you dont even use headphones to mix the tracks.
@@3531thor LOL
Most of what he plays is not good d&b though, he's just borrowed some idiot's memory stick of steppy wub crap off Beatport.
Either way he actually put effort in to the mixing. He didn't just hit play and cut over at the last beat.
Impressive. Very nice. Let's see @Venjent's review.
Nice channel btw.
Thanks, bud!
I've found my way back to dnb/edm after many many years. Entirely by mistake and thanks to Venjent's meme's on tiktok and later his amazing music here. Finding channels like yours now and loving the deep takes and analysis. Reconnecting with this music and relearning, pls keep at it. I would also love your take/analysis of venjent.
Is it just me, or do all these sound exactly the same? Same drum loop, similar wubs, same composition... this sounds like 2 or 3 Splice samples with 1, maybe 2, Serum patches added for good measure. Most newbies can produce something of equal quality.
Pretty similar. That's just what happens when someone comes up with something and it catches on. Before the slight wubs and fizzy bass it was foghorn. Years ago everyone was making these massive festival tunes, mid 2000 everyone was trying to find like noisia/pendulum, before that it was just an amen over a Reese. Mainstream dnb will always have trends that come and go.
@@BeersAndBeatsPDX sure I get that but I don't understand why so many people praise such creation. Like, I totally get it if you're into this kind of thing, especially for a live show, but this isn't evidence of any musical genius on the part of Deadmau5.
@@jameswatkins7763 He didn't make em, he just played them and I feel he played them rather well.
@@BeersAndBeatsPDX Somehow I appreciate the "art" even less now... 🤔
@@jameswatkins7763 .....ok
hes just playing tunes so what..(any one can do that)
. its all clown step anyway...wobble tune, buble factory...
Wub wub wub
it was trash
Fair enough
