I will say that I have headphones on while listening to this, and what I noticed when he did the 30-37 hz roll-off was just a touch more high end stood out naturally. When he bypassed, the perceived extra high-end sparkle disappeared just a touch. Nothing crazy or bad, just noticeable from my perception.

    This footage is from 2017 or so, so you have to take it with a grain of salt. still it would be important to discuss some of these statements, in case some true fans are around. it's not true that you gain headroom from lowcuts, especially not from steep ones. if there really was some rumble maybe, but it can do more damage if the material was already clean. not talking about phase. no one cares about phase in mastering and it also doesn't constantly matter in mixing. but resonant filters add peaks, which is the opposite of getting more headroom. you could use linear phase filters to not get peaks but then you got preringing, an actually audible artefact even. i don't wanna be a keyboard warrior though and deadmaus obviously is capable of creating great music with his methods regardless of if he's right or wrong about certain details. at the end of the day all that matters is that you make music

    • @robbeservaes3625
      @robbeservaes3625 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yes it will, but not in the way phase issues are generally thought of. It won't change the phase relationships, since it's applied to everything, but it can increase your peak level by potentially a lot, instead of decreasing it, which would be the logically expected result. Using linear phase mode would prevent this increase in peak level, but would in turn introduce pretty bad amounts of pre-ringing

    • @xtiper
      @xtiper ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cholkymilkmirage4984 try to put that 20 HZ low cut on a kick, and watch the meter with, and without the low cut, you will lose like 2/3 dB of headroom, cause of the post ringing, cause as you know, an EQ will use the phase to process , and a low cut in the sub has a BIG impact on the phase and create post ringing and that's really bad

    • @kevinlovelace6772
      @kevinlovelace6772 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Almost every eq decision you make adds post ringing. Rarely is it audible unless using extreme settings. When it is audible you can use a linear eq instead but then you’re introducing pre ringing. If you can not hear it, then the Benefit of gaining headroom in your overall mix can outweigh the cons the post or pre ringing introduces. Use your ears, not your eyes. If it sounds good, it is good.

    3:35 Sorry Steve, but even on *the best, the bigger PA system* in the universe, you _won't be able_ to hear anything below 20Hz.
    Human ears only get to ear frequencies between 20Hz and 20kHz. And that's when you're not too old, cause it's decreasing with time.
    You can feel the physical tremors, though.

    Couldn’t we have just had this with Steve Duda alone? Or perhaps literally any other amazing producer who knows what they’re talking about like? Like Noisia?

    The entire video : Put OTT and Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor on the master SOMETIMES, Also analog synths are what digital synths are modeled after so SHOCKINGLY they can be played with midi from preprogrammed audio inputs.
