Very clear presentation. I have a iPhone 14 pro and when I use cinematic mode everything works fine until I bring it into FCPX. In Air dropping the file I made sure to click on "all Photos data" but only a single file was sent, making it impossible to edit on FCPX. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for creating this video. I’m not a pro, but enjoy creating videos in iMovie and didn’t realize it had this capability. You’ve opened up a whole new world of video editing for me! Thanks!
thanks for the video...but the problem I have is I cannot get the same results on my iPhone as I can on FCP X. I can get deep depth of field on that but not here. The "E" clip is the depth of field and focus point clip as shot, the non "E" Clip is clean. You cannot use the "E" clip to do further manipulation. You can go much more shallow on FCPX but nowhere near as deep. It's very confusing.
Hey Philip hope you're well. Oh I've found it to be pretty similar on ours, do you still see the 'f stop' numbers on Final Cut Pro? What I found is that you have to export/Airpdrop the clip, but before you send, hit the blue text that says 'Option' and make sure all photos data is included. You then get two video files, one of them allows the full movement of the fake blur. Hope this helps
Thank you so much for being clear, concise and helpful. I was going crazy over here. Finally got my iPhone 13 Pro Max test Cinematic Mode posted on my Channel. Thank again.

It appears that current version of FCPX (10.8 on OS 14.5) does not allow for keyframing of the cinematic effect nor adjusting depth of field in the inspector. Very frustrating because I wanted to do pull focus in post with iPhone footage.
Very Helpful, thank you... just wondering how this would work if using the cinematic footage in a Multicam clip... would you be able to choose your point of focus after you've include the cinematic clip in the Multicam clip, assuming the angle you choose for that portions is the cinematic clip chosen? 🤔

Great video! For some reason when I airdrop it on my home iMac, it works fine but my iMac work computer does not download the folder. There is just one clip and I have the all photos data turned on.
It seems that if you have edited a photo on your iPhone then that is the "E" in the file name. The original version is without the "E” and is there so you can “revert” to the original.
Thank you so much for this video, shooting on iPhone 14 Pro is amazing! i got a question! Do you know why the blur/bokeh effect looks way stronger when editing in FCP? I got a video shot in x1 zoom and even in F14 it still looks very blur, I tried exporting the original video from Photos on Mac and as well doing it on airdrop (with your instructions) but idk if it is that the video is now "processed" so that's why it looks way dramatic, any ideas? Thanks again! I'll subscribed
Hey Omar thanks for the question... hmmmm I'm not sure on that one. You can edit the F stop within Final Cut Pro. There was a recent update which fixed some issues with Final Cut Pro. Hope this helps
I have the exact same problem with many of my Cinematic Mode clips. My current guess is that this must be a software bug in Final Cut Pro. Because if I mess around long enough and close the program or restart the computer or delete the file from the timeline and reinsert it...eventually it renders the blur correctly again and not overdone. But I haven't found a solid recipe to solve the problem and can't find anything online at all about it unfortunately. I'm happy if anyone here has any ideas or approaches as to what it could be. Update: I have found a first - very poor - workaround. I created a new separate library and also a new Project (identical settings) and copied the respective clip that has this incorrectly rendered bokeh/blur into the new Project timeline of the new library, set it cleanly (here the bokeh/blur was rendered correctly) and then back into the problematic timeline. But it's clear that there's a bug within FCP!
Just got my iPhone 13 and was wondering exactly how to do this as I am mainly a FCPX guy... question: For larger videos I usually transfer them with a lighting cable via image capture, but that does not bring in the cinematic data, how can I bring in the cinematic data using a cable for larger video files?
Just stumbled across this video and thank you. Just started using HDR and now with the 14 coming out tomorrow I didn't realize it was going to be this much of a pain. Final cut has been giving me issues so maybe I will give iMovie a chance with it, thanks again.
Great demo, but I can't find any of the tools in the Timeline or inspector... Why? Same thing in iMovie. On my iPhone 13 Pro, Cinematic footage is processed and I use Image Transfere to transfer to my Mac. FCP v. 10.6.5
Great Video. This is exactly what I was looking for. I chaged the settings to "all photo date" before airdropping the photo but I still do not have the option to edit the cinematic settings in movie. Any idea what may be going wrong?
@@EverydayApple1984 @jason vallicott - same here! I have Monterey and I made sure to turn on "all photos data" before air dropping - which failed again and again - unsure why my iPhone 13 Max keeps on failing to airdrop the video... maybe because the video is 38 minutes long? so what i did was pick "save to files" (again, after selecting "all photos data"). yay, it worked. But "cinematic settings" did not show (after fixing the HDR) in FCP X. And my FCP X is fully updated. So I"m not sure what's happening. Any tip?
I have a question. When i tried to tick the CINEMATIC on FCP, i've got an pop-up error saying "The cinematic effect can't be enabled" Video was shot on iPhone 13 (iOS 16) and FCP 10.6.2 (Monterey 12.5.1) Any idea?
Thanks for the info. I transferred with a cable to photos - then exported to desktop and imported to fcpx. I don't have the cinematic options available. Any ideas how to include this function via this route?
This isn't working in iMovie for me. I definitely have the cinematic video imported into iMovie, (the Cinematic Icon shows in the menu bar). At time 5:48 when you say 'select the clip', your preview window becomes larger, on my system (Mac Monterey), nothing happens apart from the clip becoming selected. The depth of field slider shows but not the focus areas. What am I missing. I edit in DaVinci Resolve, but want to get the focus sorted in iMovie before starting my usual editing procedure (I'm new to iMovie). What am I missing?
Thanks again for your awesome tutorial! I have the iPhone 13 Pro Max and followed your video. I enabled "All Photos Data" under Options and then Air Dropped a video to my 2016 MacBook Pro, OS Big Sur. Once completed I had two save options, one to "Photos" with the other to "Accept" which is my MacBooks Downloads folder. I saved it both ways and all I received was a single video each time. I didn't receive anything like you shown at TM2:13 retaining meta data. I'm sure I need to set up a folder that Airdrop would recognize but, I don't know how to. If you can shed any light on what could be wrong, I would sincerely appreciate it. Thanks 👍😊

Yes, very much also like to know, just how we can get out the depth map in general to use it in Fusion
