  • Description: This is how I changed my 2002 Caravan Transmission Cooler. Although I had the car on jack stands because I was in the process of completing a transmission change. I don't think you need to raise the van to perform the job.
I had to change the Transmission Cooler and flush the lines for my warranty to be in effect. After spending close to $1400.00 on the transmission and another $230.00 on extra tools I figured it was a good idea to follow the rules to protect my investment and mostly my time to perform the job.
    Part 2 is Here: • 2002 Caravan 3.3L Tran...
    Part Used:
Transmission Cooler by Dorman P/N: 918-207 $108.00 on Amazon at date of this video.
    Tools Used:
    3/8" Drive 8mm Socket.
    3/8" Drive 10mm Socket.
    3/8" Drive 3" Extension.
    3/8" Drive Stuby Ratchet.
    9" Slip Pliers.
    10mm Ratchet Combination Wrench.
    9" Side Cutters.
6" Needle Nose Pliers.- No. 2 Philips Screw Driver.
4'X6' Carpet. For lying on the driveway.
18" Ruler or tape measure, to get the mounting leg spacing right on the passenger side.
Large Shop Rag to catch any Transmission Fluid that may drop on driveway.
Kittly Litter. to clean up any spills that the rag misses.
Small trash bag to take hazmat to the hazmat center, or oil changing station.
Consumables Used: Transmission Fluid for your van if it's low.
    Basic Steps:
    1. Open the hood and remove the headlights.
    2. Remove the Bumper Cap.
    3. Remove the Transmission Cooler Lines.
    4. Remove all the screws on the Drivers side Condensor and Transmission Cooler support bracket.
    5. Loosen the Passenger Side Condensor and Transmission Cooler support bracket.
    6. Remove the bolts on the Passender (2), Drivers Side (1) of the Transmission Cooler.
    7. Match the mounting leg spacing on the passenger side of the Transmission Cooler.
    8. Install the Transmission Cooler and then all the associated items in reverse order of removal.
** NOTE: Bolt Length is Important so as NOT to puncture the AC Condenser, use the short ones for the condenser. **
    9. Feel free to ask questions.
    Thanks for watching.

Why didn't you just plum the new one in series with the old one?
You could have drilled a couple of holes in the impact bar and mounted the new cooler to it.
    Good video. Happy Motoring.

Super good question and the answer is; I had changed my transmission with a rebuilt one, and for the warranty to be valid it was required that I change the transmission cooler. If not for that I would have left it just the way it was. So since I had to change it anyways I thought I would nice to do a video for folks on how to do it if they had to. Say if they had a hole or had to change it for some another reason. Hope the reason why I changed it makes more sense now. Thanks for watching. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

I’ve got a leak on the passenger side but I’m not knowing really where it’s coming from. I see the line but can’t see the leak. My question is why did you have to replace yours?

JCMotorsports One cooler arm got broken (the top one) so the cooler falled down and got a little hole in the bottom of the corner so each time the engine was working, there was an oil leak and suddenly it increase so I decided to look for the problem and fix it.

You should consider including in your title that you're working on a 3.3L or V-6, or Grand Caravan. Lots of us looking for info on the 4-cyl with the 2.4L engine and it's very time consuming when this information is not included.

Great comment, I used to have one of those and I know what you mean. I do that for my F350 7.3L videos for that very reason. On this van the cooler is the same as well as most of the parts. I WILL try to remember that for any of my videos where that could apply. Thanks for the great suggestion. I have a lot of Caravan videos up if you see one that it applies to, let me know and I'll fix it. Thanks for watching. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

Keith Noneya My 2.4L caravan has a combined condenser/cooler. Slightly different setup.

At 6:15 which transmission hose is the return? I'm guessing the lower one, but want to make sure. Thanks!

Super question, I don't know. I just put them back on the way they came off. However I agree with you it's probably the bottom one to ensure the air stays on top if any is in the system. Thanks for watching. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

Instead of using a side cutters, they do make clip pullers you can use.

Yep they sure do and they work really good and I even have one, but I didn't need them and I was trying to make the video for the beginner. I do hope you found the video useful though. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

How many miles you get out of the original trans and what do you think did it in? Towing, lack of maintenance, lots of miles or its just not good trans?

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  5 ปีที่แล้ว

I think it was mostly all of the above, except it's a good transmission, if maintained. It had around 200,000 miles on it and I purchased the van used. Hope that helps answer your question. I probably would pay someone to change the transmission of your thinking on doing that, as it was a royal pain in the butt to change. Had I known I would have to buy a transmission jack and the amount of time and effort it took to do it I would never had done the job. If you do decide to change the transmission, get it checked out first to see if it really needs one. Also the Harbor Freight transmission jack is good except for the chain they use to hold it, they slip off EASILY, so use a cargo ratchet strap instead. Thanks for watching. Best Wishes & Blessings. I would also like to add that any of the people in the comments that have anything bad to say about your video they probably shouldn't be working on their own car in the first place because if they couldn't get the job done with the guidance of your video yeah they should just take it to a garage and let them do it before they cost themselves more time and money then what they should in the first place... Stop hateing and stay in the office...

U didn't need to take the bumper cover of like that. No fender screws out nothing just the radiator support brace....

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm pretty sure you have to remove that bumper cap otherwise you can't reach the mounting bolts or hose clamps on the Transmission Cooler. Take a look at them at time index 5:50 to 6:30. Without that cap off I have no idea how you would get the lower bolts out much less the Side Support Bracket bolts to get the Cooler out, as the Transmission Cooler sits between the Radiator and the AC Condenser. Also pulling the Bumper Cap is not hard and it gives you so much more room to play in there. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya
