      I wouldn't have known this band crossover existed if it wasn't for reading Neil Finn's autobiography. As a huge fan of both the Bee Gees and Crowded House/Neil/Split Enz, I love that they were at the same place at the same time. How cool!

      It’s at least nice to see Robin and Maurice acknowledging Split Enz. If only there was some form of technology that allowed for wiping Saville out of the frame.

      I'm Canadian. When I was a young man I was touring the UK with a band and decided to get a haircut. I told the lady I preferred long bangs. She said "don't we all honey?!"....I didn't know the Brits referred to them as "fringes" lol

    He was so simple, and it’s so attractive. He wasn’t trying to titillate anyone in the audience or be a pop idol. But when you’re talented the audience will still gravitate towards you. Talent is magnetic.

      @Paul Cole Tim was the one who originally formed the band and was lead singer then Neil came in later and in my opinion was the better of the two altho tim is a great singer in his own right Neil actually played lead guitar on this song but as this is just a playback version they gave tim something to do cause he only did harmony on the studio version.

  • @MrFrankGallagher

    NEIL FINN , ALSO BETTER KNOWN AS CROWDED HOUSE LATER IN 80'S . This man deserves a lifetime achievement award for his music . He recently (lead singer) sung a song for the hobbit film aswell still going at age 55 .

    My love of all things Finn began when I saw Split Enz at Imperial College, London on 27 November 1976, just a few weeks after beginning my degree course there. (I think Neil had joined the band by then.) I joined the BBC in late 1979 and worked at Television Centre as a studio engineer for several years - this edition of TOTP was recorded there. I worked on many TOTPs (usually recorded on a Wednesday) including some editions we did live, but I don't recall this show so it was probably a shift off day for me. Fun times. And all these years later, I'm now (30 Aug 2017) catching up with Neil's recent Infinity sessions on TH-cam. Thanks, Neil and Tim.

      Ah! Thanks for the correction, Paul. The Griggs name rang a bell with me as being connected with the band. My parents bought me the UK release of Mental Notes (all very confusing with the different releases of Mental Notes/Second Thoughts) for my December 1976 birthday and I figure I'd remembered the name from reading the sleeve notes - but maybe not if Nigel joined in 1977 (it's all a long time ago). The concert was memorable for so many reasons, not least the "spoons" solo with the strobe light; here was a band that was definitely going to get my attention!

      It's a shame the producers didn't allow them to play live instead of lip syncing. As a sound engineer myself I would have found that to be such a deflating aspect of the job.

      They actually relocated to the UK in (I think) 1976, and stayed there for a few years. I know they recorded at least 2 albums there (Dizrythmia and Frenzy). They had moderate success in the UK, mainly with this song.

      He loved it. I mean I don’t know specifically about Split Enz, but I know that he once went on record as saying that the B-52’s were his favorite new band in 1980, and he loved the new wave movement.

      @Shikta-poobah67 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rampageclover9788 I think you’re probably right about that. I’m almost positive that had he lived, he would have probably worked with a lot of the then underground new wave and post punk bands. He was definitely showing a lot of interest and handing out a lot of praise for those bands. It definitely would have been interesting to see what could’ve happened, but that POS had to go and gun him down.
