    I have mine hanging in a tree, all 3 of them. They are blooming like crazy. They get late afternoon sun. Maybe gets watered every 4 days unless it rains. They don't smell until the blooms are completely opened.

    im glad you mentioned feeling the leaves to know when its time to water.. i wait until the leaf has what i call a fingernail.. along the edge on the underside you can feel this fingernail when it needs water..

    I had the sweetest surprise today! I discovered a flower on my hoya Publicalix! She sits outside and doesn't get too much attention from me other than watering from time to time. I was just thinking today that I would repot her, and discovered it. Its a tan color.

    My pubicalyx is literally my favorite plant of all of my plants! I could never neglect it🤪. I just realized watching your video that this is probably why I haven't gotten any blooms on it! The one hoya that I have neglected the most, the linearis, is the only one I've gotten to bloom. So, your advice is probably right.

  • @robparsons213
    @robparsons213 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Congratulations on your first pubicalyx bloom, hoping it's the first of many for you! According to one Hoya group I belong to, one shouldn't identify a variety unless you got the variety name from the seller (or whoever you got it from, as not all my acquisitions were sold to me). So, in light of that, perhaps you shouldn't be calling yours a Royal Hawaiian Purple--although I'm inclined to agree that is what you have. Similarly, I have a carnosa with inner variegated leaves that looks like a Krimson Princess to me, but I have been told I really shouldn't be calling it anything but H. carnosa (inner variegated), as inner variegated Hoyas have arisen as mutations independently, some of which predate Krimson Princess. I enjoyed this video very much, as I have enjoyed many of them, and I'm glad you rescued your Chelsea.

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Rob. This plant was only sold as 'hoya pubicalyx'. I remember hearing a long time ago (I could be wrong) that the way to truly know which variety you have is by the flower.

    My mother-in-law was given a Hoya 30 years ago that I was just given a cutting of. It is a turtle splash leaf with white flowers that give off a musky smell. She has it in a NE room and waters it 1x month and puts release fertilizer in it 1x year. She is not a plant person and she says it lives inspite of her ignoring it. PS she has never transplanted it in 30 years

    It's reassuring to see how well the single node cuttings do. I've been rehabbing a tiny Hoya linearis but i've been too scared to go any smaller than 2 nodes. They've been coming along, but 2x the propagation material is very tempting, lol

    I often get stems with thin leaves just as you showed with the Hoya 'Chelsea'. It usually happens when the base of the stem rots. I cut above the rot area and try to propagated in a prop box with high humidity. However, it does not always work and sometimes it takes lots of time to root. I don't know why it takes so long inspite of removing the dead stem base and the high moisture.

    I got myself a Macrophylla for my birthday in January. It did nothing until a month ago which I expected. It is now giving me new leves and the tendrils are also growing really well. i do need to water it once every 6-8 days because of it’s location in our really sunny and warm sunroom in Ottawa, Ontario. What I really need to know is how do I go about the treillis? Do I just put it in the pot and let the plant find it or do I need to train it by wrapping the tendrils around it?
