    The orchid fertilizer is my secret recipe to growing hoyas!! Every time you water, fertilize, even in winter. And tomato fertilizer In the soil when you want them to bloom!

      I actually found a way to make my own , and once I did it’s actually highway robbery that they charge what they do. It should be seriously illegal . We should be paying maybe .50 cents , $1.00 tops for maybe the bottle.

      A friend recently told me about the orchid spray, so I got some and omg, the very next day, I already saw a difference! I’ll have to remember the tomato fertilizer!

    The drying of some vines may be caused by root rot. Especially because hoyas have very thin and fragile roots, most of them actually cannot stand drying out too much. Once this happens, if you water them, the dry roots that have died will rot and the plant will dry out and die as well. This can happen to only some plants in the pot, while others can be closer to even moisture. I have learned this while taking care of notoriously difficult hoyas. One missed watering in the summer can kill some hoya royalty.

    • @katyaleblanc5418
      @katyaleblanc5418 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was going to say the same thing. In my experience, this is why one vine dies.

    • @martinanemcokova917
      @martinanemcokova917 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @d b you are welcome. Since I never let my hoyas dry out completely, it has not happened to me. I also stopped using smaller terracotta pots for hoyas because they do not hold any moisture. It also causes hoyas to drop new leaves.

    I wanted to comment regarding the crimson princess getting soft wrinkled leaves... But when I've seen circumstances like that I begin to suspect root rot.
    I had this exact thing happen to my princess and when I checked her roots they were completely rotten.
    Root rot in hoyas isn't noticed just by looking as rotted roots remain white... But the root casing falls off easily when lightly pulled.
    In my case I pulled my princess out removed every root and repotted in a more airy mixture.
    Might be something to consider if your hoya looks wrinkled

    The adequate watering issue is why I have been shoving my plants in the shower or at least watering them at the sink to the point the soil is about to spill over, that way I know the soil is being fully saturated in water. I leave my plants in the sink/bathtub/shower for a little while to fully drain.

    Hoya compata, Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Queen' and 'Krimson Princess,' etc. are cultivars, not hybrids. Definitely an important distinction for plant geeks. There are hoyas that have been hybridized, but not these commonly available carnosa varieties. (Hoya mathilde is one example of a hybrid, Hoya carnosa x serpens.)

    I did notice on my hoya macrophylla that one branch had leaves that would wrinkle sooner than the others. I just made sure to check it regularly and give it extra water. Eventually it got healthy enough that I could water it at the same time as the other branches. I'm assuming it wasn't as established as the other cuttings.

  • @redvanillamama6892
    @redvanillamama6892 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I was given a repotted (very established) Hoya Queen made up of clippings. I have noticed some of the clipped vine were potted backwards. Meaning the newer part of the vine in the dirt and the clipped part to the open air. She seems to be OK and has started rooting from the end in the dirt. However I don't see any new growth. The other properly potted vines in the pot not only are they giving off new leaves but have already flowered twice. What should I do with the backwards vines?

    so.. I have a hoya that seems healthy but some of the new leave have tiny brown spots, only the newly grown leave. the spots are slightly bigger or same size as if I was to stab the leaf with a sewing needle. google says it could be from underwattering and it dosent look like the bactearea spots you showed in this vid. can underwatering make newly grown leaves have tiny brown spots?
    awesome vid btw, I lurnd quite a bit about how to better care for my hoya!

  • @brandizenczak2756
    @brandizenczak2756 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi!
    I recently got a hoya (the rope one) it was a couple rooted clippings but put into a pretty big pot. (There is a pretty clear distinction in the soil) I feel like since watering is so touchy being in a pot with 4" of surplus soil around the circumference of the plant might hinder proper watering...
    I've learned that they like like to be root bound, but also do not like to be repotted...
    Should I put it into a smaller pot or leave it alone??

    I love all my hoyas. Oldest is approx. 15+ years old. I think I have around 50 different species now and love them all. I root in either water or perlite and have had great success. Thank goodness for plant lights as I have a very dark house. I'll be so glad when spring comes around and I can put them outside and watch them go wild.
