I agree with the comment about mature hoyas. When I've taken clippings those clippings take years before blooming. Also when I move and the plants get shocked it takes a while for them to start growing and blooming again. Hoyas are my favorite plants. They are so forgiving and easy to care for. Thanks for your video!
Yes that’s been my experience too! But I totally agree, while they may be slow in some areas, so many of them are so easy and forgiving to care for. Of course there is also such a huge and wonderful choice of species out there 😍 Thank you for watching and for your comment! ✨🌱
I gifted a cutting to my co-worker a year ago. She still has it in a water, in a mason jar, and it noticeably grew. I noticed last week that this vine had two peduncles.... My co-worker is so excited!
My mother had a bunch of cuttings in a huge gallon mason jar up on a counter and it cascade down and it bloomed all the time. She had it like that for years
Haha I’m glad you enjoyed, I love watching them too! Some Hoya species flowers definitely last a short period of time so I’d suggest researching that first - if not it may be something to do with the care and maybe can be changed 🥰
This very specific video is great! Ive been distributing them to my new hoya plant loving friends...very concise and informative! I started with 2 hoyas, got them in west facing window and bloomed agter 13 monrhs... now has added 2 dozens more within one year as it gave me confidence in growing them... Thank you!
I have 2 huge hoyas growing in large but fairly shallow planters up tomato-style pyramid trellises. They are outside plants on my deck, and they flower many times a year. I love them so much! (I am in Australia in a sub-tropical area)
Hi from Australia, central victoria, where the nights get very cold. I put the heater on at about 18○ c, and they love it. I use grow lights as I have very little natural light, but the hoyas are going strong. Nice to meet you 😂
I've learned that orchids need calcium, in the form of egg shells, crushed oyster shells. So now I give to all my houseplants. Just thought I'd share. Great video!
My first hoya carnosa bloomed after 3 years, and now it's growing wild and is over taking the window. Now its producing more pedancles,im so happy to see it. Now, im kinda having more different kinds of hoya.
Thanks Amy you taught a lot. I love them because they have a presence and an attitude. I have four different hoyas now and it seems I am going for more. Thanks again
Thank you for watching and glad you got something out of it 🤍 Amazing and what a lovely thing to carry on as a reminder of your friend. I’m sure it will grow well for you 🤍
✨🙏🏼🙌🏼 thank you Amy!!! 🙌🏼🙏🏼✨ my Hoya collection has been establishing in my home for close to 2 years now and i noticed the plants are really loving life recently! i agree these plants enjoy their maturity and also are resilient growers!🙌🏼🙏🏼✨thankful for all this species has taught me!✨
I truly enjoyed this video. I have a nice variety of Hoya, but none have ever flowered. But, they have vined quite a bit, which I really enjoy, so I never considered cutting them. I believe they will flower one day, so I look forward to it. I can't believe I never saw you before this evening, I do follow quite a few plant lovers. Thank you for a lovely video!
Awh thank you so much! I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed the video. If they are actively growing and vining I’m sure that’s a good sign they will flower for you in no time 🥰 It’s so exciting seeing the first one! ✨🤍
Soil mix? Also, should I repot when I bring them home from the nursery? Do they need a small, tight pot? Someone told me they don’t like to be moved, is that true? Anything you can teach about repotting or guiding their vines would be useful. Thank you for your helpful tips in this video. Also I would love if you would discuss and show some of the different varieties. I currently have four different kinds.
i love how hoyas smell , im in florida and have them all over a crape myrtle tree the moths flock to them at night. especially the hummning bird moths.
I just planted mine outside in FL zone 10 at the base of a small palm-put the stem in some orchid bark on the ground. It was given to me as a cutting from a friend and quickly rooted in a mason jar.
I've had a Hindu Rope plant Hoya for almost 3 years now that has never bloomed, so thank you for these tips! Though, I mostly got it because I absolutely love the foliage, the leaves curl in a way that really looks like little ropes on vines! It lives outside and thrives and grows like crazy during the summer, but when I bring it inside during the winter, it sits by a western facing window and it grows very slowly. I wonder if maybe I need to move it to another window that gets more light!?! Im going to try that and see what happens! 🥰
Can you tell me the soil mix you use? I did watch the whole video, sorry if I missed it. I know you said you add worm castings for some natural fertilizer. Thanks.😊 I do have a question. When you receive plant mail, do you let them dry out on their own, or repot them right away if they are wet? Mostly when I get a hoya, is when I worry.😬
No problem, I didn’t go fully into that in the video! I mix my own soil so to be honest it’s different every time. For Hoyas I generally make something that is free draining but with some water retention - worm castings, coconut coir, bark, vermiculite, seramis and some leca balls usually✨ So when I get a new plant I try not to mess with it too much and just leave it alone. For Hoyas they definitely can be a bit wet but if the plant looks healthy, I would wait it out and monitor how long it takes to get dry. Usually they have been in that mix for a while so should be fine! If you find it’s not drying out for long you could take some action by aerating the soil and checking the roots are good! 🙏🏼
Hi Amy. Great video, I have 5 different hoyas no blooms yet though. In terms of questions, I have just had my first lot of root rot on a monstera. I know where I went wrong but what do you do when this occurs? Also I don't feel right just throwing the soil so I threw it on the compost, do you feel it's OK to do this? Can the soil be left to dry out and reused? Thankyou x
Hi Jessica! Thank you for watching and hope that you get some blooms on your Hoyas soon 🧡🌱 Also thank you for the questions for the upcoming video. As a side note though I just uploaded a video on root rot so this may help with that particular issue! ✨
In my experience Hoyas seem to like being in smaller pots, so often I will leave them for as long as I can - I will only repot them if they are drying out too fast for me, or are showing signs of suffering bc of being too rootbound. Hope that helps!
Normally I root Hoyas in water! Just check for rot often, make sure the water is changed every now and again. This is how I prefer to do it but they can root other ways too - test each out and see which suits you!
Maybe it’s a tricky species to get to bloom indoors! You could definitely try changing something about the care, more light / a different fertiliser etc.
👥️ At the beginning is that a palm tree behind her on the wall? No. Well how do you know for sure? Well, now that's a good question. What are you looking at? I'm trying to see if there's any coconuts on it. Do palm trees come that little?? Oh sure they start out little and grow big. Well I always wondered where they came from. 😁
Hi :) I think the Hoya you showed is a Kentiana, not a Wayetii. You can distinguish them by the color of their pedicel and peduncle. Hoya Kentiana's are pink and the Wayetii's are green. Hope I helped. Nice video (and collection)!!
Hi Sara! Thank you for this info 🌸 Although the Hoya I showed does have green peduncles and pedicels so I believe it is a wayetii based on that! Thank you so much and I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😁✨🌱

Ahh wow! That’s just lovely. It’s so nice to see plants gifted to someone else just thriving. I hope it reaches the flowering stage! 🌸😁

Oh that Timelapse of the flowers blooming at the beginning was so satisfying.
I get blooms on my Hoyas but they die pretty quickly after

Perfect timing: I was beyond excited to discover my very first tiny peduncle today!
Omg wow! Which plant is it on? I hope it reaches the flowering stage for you 🙏🏼✨
@@amyadwan Thank you! It’s on my krimson princess. I can’t wait to watch all its progress! Do your peduncles often not flower?
O my god,how beautiful!

Sometimes I just use a tea for fertilizer and in a spray bottle sometimes
Very interesting!
what type of lighting do you use?
What about reporting, how do you know if they need to go into a larger container??

so helpful!
Thank you so much Maria! Hope you are well 🌱✨💕
How do you get the cuttings to root. I have tried several times and the cuttings end up dying
Normally I root Hoyas in water! Just check for rot often, make sure the water is changed every now and again. This is how I prefer to do it but they can root other ways too - test each out and see which suits you!
I have Hoya a never bloom . I got the plant 2014 😢

Hahaha! Lots of speculation - the plant on the wall is actually a Strobilanthes dyerianus, with many lost lower leaves 😂 no coconuts here!
💜💜
❤️🌼🌸🌱
I would love to know what they smell like.❤
Each have different scents! Some are nicer than others 😅
💚🌿
🤍✨🌸🎉
Thanks for tip #4. I didn't know that.
Absolutely great video...but nearly going to turn off at the start as I thought the music was dreadful.. otherwise well done and thank you.
I WOULD LIKE THE NAMES AND SEE MATCHING FLOWERS
Yes that would have been nice! 😂
