Tiki taka is an evolution from the dutch playing style called total football in the 60’s and 70’s!
It’s based on each player constantly moving, with and without the ball, and passing with one touch, instead of ball hogging stars, keeping possession and if possession is lost basically destroying the opponent by preSsing really high up the field and getting the ball back within 5 sec!
One of the key players in the 70’s, who played for ajax amsterdam, where the style kinda developed, went to play for barcelona, and later on went to manage them and introduced and implemented it there… aka johan cruijff!
When Cruijff was the manager, one of the key players in his team was guardiola, who in turn was the manager during the 2009-2012 team in the video!
This arguably the best football ever seen and most likely the best we’ll ever see, solely bc of the technical skill required in midfield as well as having arguably the greatest football player of all time in this team, lionel messi!
As mentioned in some comments, other teams have adopted this style too, but most of them use it either in more of a counter-esque manner or just use speed, fast runners on the wings, to surprise opponents, while the players in this barcelona team were able to kill opponents from a complete stand still, with defenses parking the bus all the way in front of goal!
They needed very little space to get behind the defense, to play tiki taka, but… they could also do it in a quick counter attack too!
In the last dance doc we saw the general manger or whatever his title was, get clowned for saying he put together the winning team…
While it was the players who did the job on court, he too was responsible for that succes, bc before that they just relied on jordan, which was easier to defend than having to guard multiple players who can do damage!
I wish barcelona would’ve had a technical manager like that, who would’ve realized that in 2016 it was time to refresh the squad eith players who suit and add something different to the team instead of just buying big names!
Bc of those huge transfers, today barcelona has a debt of over 1bln.
And are for lack of a better word… shit, while other teams realized it was tome to refresh and update their squads!
Today manchester city, managed by pep guardiola, and bayern munched are the teams capable of destroying opponents in somewhat of a similar style!

Tiki taka is a way of play were the players usually didn't keep the ball for to long, and they trick the other team with passes. Take the ball, pass the ball, take the ball, pass the ball just that

  • @ryantwitter343
    @ryantwitter343 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Think of Tiki taka as slow moving chess. Controlling the ball in small areas with quick passes and short movement until larger spaces can be attacked. Rather than long runs or over the top play from the back. Everything in on the floor (for the most part) and it’s about wearing out your opponent. You expend far more energy on defence than offense and this chasing the ball eventually opens up gaps into he defence due to their fatigue.
There is a saying in football. The other team can’t score if they never have the ball.

one of the origins of "TIki-Taka" is believed to be the "Toque Peruano" (Peruvian Touch) which was heavily used in the 70's, 80's and is seems to be resurfacing now in the Peruvian national team. If you look up "Toque Peruano" you will find that is looks like the "Tiki-Taka's Dad"

He’s a totally different player, using his extreme strength and speed combined with elite movement off the ball and finnishing skills. A team must have excellent players to be able to do this because the players will need in 1 second to control the ball, see the opening and deliver and excellent pass to their teammate who has to do the same. Tika Taka is specifically short range ,fast successive passes usually in triangle/square rotation shapes (3 or 4 players sometimes more) its a form of possession based football
Other possesion Styles of play would be Give and go which is similar , but a little more direct and involves more pace
Long ball football where you play a strong forward with goo aerial game, he stays high up the pitch and receives the ball when the defence win it back,
You can also play the same thing with very fast forwards and play counter attacking.
Liverpool are currently probably the best tem around and play aform of Gegen pressing which is basically a blend of high energy high paced high tempo, counter attacking football, that also looks to score goals from possesion play too (so its kind of balanced between long ball and possesion play)
    Tika taka is a style,NOT a formation.
A formation is how many defender, midfiedlers and attackers you have
some styles fit better with some formations but you can really use any style with any formation, and the positions work slightly different in each formation and each style, so there are so many ways of playing its crazy

      @@dunsonhouse some examples of styles:
*Chelsea = Long Ball/ Counter Attacking -> , they play balls up to Lukaku who is big and string good in the air but also fast so he can hold up the ball and bring others in or run onto through passes and score with pace, they are probably the best at these things at the moment
*Man City = Tika taka -> Pep who created Tika Taka at Barca, manages Man City now and they play in a similar style to how Barcelona used to. Lots of short passes constant movement into space, crushing teams with possession, These guys are probably the best at pure possession football.
*Liverpool= Gegen Pressing/"Heavy Metal Football" -> High energy pressing without the ball looking to force quick counter attack play with pacey forwards, and give and go possession style play with the ball which basically looks to switch play from flank to flank quickly to create an overlap down the flank and play a through pass to the Wing back or winger and have them either try and create a shot or cross the ball to the center for the forwards to try and pounce on, Very intense high tempo game.
All 3 sides work really hard at their styles and are the best examples currently probably in the world of each kind of style (PSG and Man Utd have great players but not the best tactics and defence, and Bayern are not as strong as they were, Real Madrid and Barca are shadows of what they were, AC Milan are on the rise but not there yet and Juve are good but not in the same class as Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City at the moment)

The expression Tiki Taka summarizes the philosophy they have about the game, what it is and how it should be played. Pep Guardiola said it best, the idea is "get the ball, pass the ball" and "everything begins and ends with the ball". They understand football as a collective effort in which the whole team plays like a unit, and they function like a well oiled machine. Th idea of team play vs individualities has been front and center of the debate about the game pretty much since its conception in the 1800s.
Quick history lesson, in the 1950s, the Mighty Magiars (Hungary's national team) were really into the collective effort but in the 1970s, FC Ajax of Amsterdam and the Dutch national team developed that idea and invented "Total Football". They were called the "Clockwork Orange" because their jersey is orange and they worked like a good clock (thus the "tiki taka" as a simile between the sound of the needles moving and the ball being passed. In the 1990s, Johan Cruyff and Louis Van Gaal coached Barcelona and Ajax and they developed even more the idea of total football. I'n the 2000s, and 2010s, Frank Rijkaard first and then Pep Guardiola, Tito Vilanova and Spain's national team current coach Luis Enrique Martínez kept evolving that system.
If I were to compare Tiki Taka football to American sports, I'd say in Basketball the Lakers during their "Showtime Era" or the Golden State Warriors a few years ago are the closest to the "Total Football" concept.

I'm from spain and as far as i know the name of tiki taka came from the sound that the ball makes when players are passing the ball eachother constantly, it goes tiki (1º pass) taka (2º pass) tiki (3º pass) taka (4ºpass) etc...

The roots of what would develop into tiki-taka began to be implemented by Johan Cruyff during his tenure as manager of Barcelona from 1988 to 1996. The style of play continued to develop under fellow Dutch managers Louis van Gaal and Frank Rijkaard and has been adopted by other La Liga teams.

In a simple answer tiki taka is to play one touch football (quick passes) and keep possession of the ball making sure to deny the opposition from having the ball.

Tiki Taka was effective but there wont be another Barca like that ever. Teams caught on to that playing style really quick. Ultimately it turned into a game of yes tiki taka but all you do is hold the ball without scoring 🤷🏻‍♂️ yet it was marvelous to see while it was on its prime 🙌🙌

Pep Guardiola actually came up with “tiki taka” from watching the Mexican national team play under La Volpe. I believed he was a coach in Mexico and later developed it with Barcelona.

Tiki taka is simply pass and move/give and go with as few touches per player as possible. Maybe 1-2 touches to set up a pass (sometimes no touches, first time pass).

Real Madrid and Barcelona are the probably the greatest football clubs in the World considering that all of the greatest players of all time played in one of those two teams, or both.
English Premier League is probably the best league bcz of the competition and there is not as much diversity between teams, there are more than a dozen that won a title in last 20-30 years.
In Spain it's pretty much Barca or Real. It's like, when a player makes his peak in any club, be it Manchester United or Roma or Spartak Moscow and one of Spain's giants makes an inquiry you go!
The list of football legends that played for one of those two teams is incredible.
    Zidan
    Maradona
    Ronaldo R10
    Ronaldo CR7
    Cruyff
    Ronaldinho
    Messi
    Figo
    Cannavaro
    Di Stefano
    Ibrahimovic
    Carlos
    Kaka
    Beckham
    Stoichkov and many more
Juventus, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Manchester United are the next tier
    then
Milan, Internazionale, Ajax and so on...

    Tikitaka is a style

  • @tyronpires1645
    @tyronpires1645 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Ticitaca..means to pass the ball quickly with one touch from one to another player. Like tic and tac. That way oponents have less time to attack a player. The ball runs quickly from one to another. That also means the ball gets quicker to oponents goal-zone. And also the players safe some energy. They dont run with the ball ..they let the ball run. And oponents have to run even more to chase the ball and get tired. Thats the idea behind tici taca It was actually no new idea. But Barcelona perfectioned it. No one could play it that perfect like. Barcelona! Coz they had the perfect Coach and the perfect players for the tici taca style.

we have had a huge fall off in recent years after we started spending large amounts of money which we never did as we developed youth players from our academy and most of our legends where part of the la masia academy but now we are in debt and we take hit after hit dropping down from the ucl to the uel in for the first time since messi joined in 2003 and we did 2 years in a row and lost both times but this year we have a legendary player of the old barca as coach and we are back to the barca philosophy givin our youth talents a chance and they are flourishing
