It was at EURO 2016 in France. It is a National teams Tournament that happens every 4 years. People fighting are football hooligans. They exist in almost every European country. They are fans of many different clubs supporting their National teams. English hooligans had a reputation for decades. They were going all around Europe causing havoc from 80s to 00s. But in the last 20 years, Eastern European hooligan groups (often called firms) were on the rise and this was a perfect opportunity to show English that things have changed. And they sure did show them. English fans were reluctant to go to WC in Russia 2 years later bc of the events in Marseille. It took a few games for them to make sure they are safe (Russian police did a way better job in 2018 then French police did in 2016) before they started coming in big numbers. And to make it clear, most of the time football hooligans fight eachother. Both sides are willing to fight. There are exceptions where "normal" fans get attacked, but it's not what they usually do. They are not interested in fighting people that are there just to have some fun and watch the game. There is no pride in that as they see it. Nothing to brag about.

Football violence has been round for years. It was huge in England in the 80s and early 90s but a huge crack down wiped alot of it out or drove it more underground. It is still hugely present in other European countries which is why you see alot of ultra videos. England vs Russia in France was all pre arranged but prior to the event nearly all England fans who had a history or football related crime had there passports siezed so we're not able to fly to France. Which basically left English football fans who were there just for the football to deal with Russian hooligans.

Here's what actually happened in Marseille in 2016.
English fans invented hooliganism. English fans were the number 1 hooligans through the 70s, 80s and even through large parts of the 90s.
But late 80s and early 90s the British government and police basically stamped out hooliganism by coming down very hard on the culprits. People went to prison. People were banned. And violence at stadiums became almost non existent.
But by this stage, European countries were starting to really make a name for themselves on the hooligan scene and always saw the English fans as being the big name you'd want to defeat. So whether it be English teams playing in European competition or the actual England team, the English fans would always come under attack when abroad. And mostly would give as good as they got and mostly win the fights anyway.
But the Russians and Eastern Europeans took it to a new level and started to treat soccer Violence as a sport that could be trained for. For English lads it was just a bit of a laugh.
As soon as the draw was made and everyone knew England would face Russia in Marseille in June 2016, there were 2 distinct groups who were gunning for the English.
Firstly, the Russians. They released videos of their hooligans (many MMA fighters and paramilitaries) training in the forest and issuing threats to English fans.
Secondly, the local mostly Arabic Marseille youth. England had smashed up the city in 1998 and Marseille is supposed to be the most gangster city in France so they were embarrassed. Again, threats were made long before.
The stupid out of touch English government and the soccer authorities decided in their wisdom that the best way to stop trouble was to stop the hooligans travelling. So as many as 5000 English hooligans had to hand in their passports and report to police stations on the day of the game.
But what this did was actually leave the normal England fans vulnerable because other countries like Russia didn't ban their own hooligans.
So on the first night in Marseille, the local thugs attacked English fans who were out drinking. But these weren't hooligans. These were drunk loud fans there for a sing song and a good time. Naturally because they were drunk they fought back but the English media only showed England fans throwing bottles and chairs and made it look like they actually started the trouble.
Then came the Russians. No hooligans for England remember. So in the streets of Marseille but also famously INSIDE THE STADIUM after the game finished, Russian hooligans, trained fighters, attacked non hooligan England fans and destroyed them.
The hooligan code says this is a no-no but the Russians didn't care, they just wanted English blood.
Interestingly though, pictures emerged afterwards of 7 England fans sitting right in the middle of the Russian ultras but they were left untouched. Those guys were fans of Millwall, England's most hooligan club. Word is the Russians respected them and left them alone and possibly knew that they would get some fighting back.
The authorities would never admit their mistake but for the next few games the word is that they 'unbanned' some hooligans and allowed them to travel. The Russians weren't interested at that point.
All this is confirmed in a TH-cam video with Vasily the Killer, the leader of the Russian hooligans. He freely admits that they knew that the real English hooligans weren't there. He seems a decent bloke to be honest.
None of this prevented the media from blaming England fans though.

It can happen before, after and also during the match in the stadiums, where opponents start to fight in the stadium, throwing firework and gass bombs, and attacking each other sometimes with the fists. but that does not happen a lot in the stadiums because of security and big vences between the home and out supporters

European countries have been fighting each other since time began and at these big tournaments where there’s a lot of people from all different countries all in one country and everyone’s been drinking sometimes things just boil over. International football violence as a whole though has declined massively since the 80s and 90s mainly from travel bans

  • @sidimannn
    @sidimannn 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The English were the top hooligans in Europa in the 70/80’s. After that other countries followed. Now the east European countries rule the hooligan scene with some big firms in Croatia and Serbia. Russian also have very big and tough firms. Most guys train very hard in boxing and kickboxing.
This was about big mouth English (more numbers but their topboys couldn’t travel because of UK police) against a smaller Russian mob with good tactics and fighting skills. The group you see with black t shirts (20/30 guys) was the extremely good trained Russian mob that kept hundreds English on the run. Many English knocked out because of the great fighting skills and great tactics staying together and working as a tactical team. One of the biggest hooligan fight you will ever see.
So in the end the Russians wanted to teach the English a lesson who has the tougher and harder hooligans and show everybody the power has shifted.

England is seen as the original home of football hooliganism where it originated in the 70s, due to CCTV and policing it has largely died out in England. these days in Russia and other Eastern European nations there is a lot more hooliganism than in Western Europe. England and Russia weren't actually playing each other but we're both in Marseille, France at the same time for the European Championships. For many Russian hooligans this was an opportunity to show that they are the top dogs and the England fans got absolutely battered.

So it was a perfekt Moment to show who the big Dog is, and the English fans got absolutely destroyed and some of them got actually killed by the Russians.
You have to understand that the Situation with the police is different here in Europe. Europeans are in general not scared to face the police, now imagine how less Holigans has to be afraid from the police 😅. The police tried, but you can’t prevent thousands of hooligans from fighting each other. The worst thing for the police is to make something that provoked them more. You can see that they don’t Play around, they kill if they have to, police officers included, so it’s better to protect those who have nothing to do with the violence and let them fight each other. After a while they get tired, and than they can do something. Bevor it’s just not possible.

Ull find that most hooligans come from struggling economic countries. England in the 70s was where it started but as times change in the countries, people aren't as angry. Hooliganism was/is a vent on the boiling pot.
The Eastern European countries read books about the English hooliganism and some idealised it so fighting an English fan is like a scalp of honour.
The Eastern European hooligans are extremely racist aswel, just as the English originally were but then people came together to fight other countries.
    It's all working class frustrations.
Also England now has absolute elite football and the clubs have real money so people are there for entertainment rather than anything else plus alot more middle class people are into football where as before it was factory and mine workers and those types

Basically this is before a tournament being held in France.
Around 400-500 Russian hooligans decided to plan and run around the city attacking English fans who have gathered before the match as both countries were playing each other that day. Eastern European countries usually train for this in MMA/boxing it’s taken way more serious than it even was when it started in the 70s in England. This wasn’t no fight it was English fans out enjoying themselves drinking and being attacked with I think a few being very seriously hurt. They even tried charging England fans inside the stadium. A lot of Eastern European ultras have ties to neo nazi groups too. You should check videos out on that as it’s a big issue in football here recently (England vs Hungary) earlier this year was bad with thousands making monkey noises to black English players.

I also think that it wasn't Russia that acted behind the scenes to bring about the Paraguay War in the 19th century!
Or was it Russia that waged a war against Argentina (threatening to bombard the country with atomic bombs) to maintain its hold on the Falkland Islands, which are over 12,000 KM from the UK ? (I know, I'm not Argentinian, but Argentina is a sister/brother country for us brazilians)

I will not judge, I respect your opinion!
But, I'm Brazilian, so I don't have to hate Russia, nor England, Brazil is very far from Europe, and Brazil hasn't been involved in many conflicts, quite the contrary, Brazil is known as a peaceful country or neutral (neutral before Bolsonaro), so there is no historical rivalry with either Britain or Russia.

England fans are the pioneers of football violence, they were the first to implement it on the world stage, to the point where the Russian’s masculinity got jealous. Today, British police are the most well equipped police force in the world when it comes to dealing with fan violence/crowd control as they’ve dealt with it the longest. Cctv on every corner, something you don’t get in most other parts of the world and the fact that these renowned English football fans can’t even enter the country. While there’s no punishment to Russian fans, they have free reign.
So when Russians boast about this, just remember. It’s not the hardest job to attack drunk men who are there with their families. Russian fans even retreated at one point which I think is even more embarrassing.

Simply put its tribal.......firm is the name given to individual groups of casuals/hooligans....... There are different levels.....domestic Club level.. Your firm goes against other firms from the club you play each game,Derby games where the firms are from the same town are usually the worst for violence, but there is also the top firms who try to outdo each other from totally different parts of the country, club games in Europe.... Some clubs have more than one firm and when they play a rival team from Europe they sometimes join together as one firm to clash with the European hooligans and then there is international level where its country against country and that's just..because they are from another country.

You have to see it this way: England is known for their hooligans and hooliganism in general. Russia has been known for “stupid” and “drunks” for years. Russian youth is changing that image and hooliganism is getting bigger over there as well. What happens is the following, Russian hooligans are becoming trained fighters in MMA and other combat sports, they are dedicated and most of them don’t even drink alcohol anymore. In 2016 England and Russia play in the same tournament in France. England always in big numbers of people are enjoying the sun and beers in Marseille. All of a sudden a group of Russian hooligans appear there as well and start targeting English fans and hooligans. Even though the Russians are quite outnumbered they have one goal! Beat the English! Why? Because they were their example of hooliganism! It’s all for honor for these Russians. And as u can see in the videos they are fighting like real trained fighters and beat the English while being outnumbered. Now at the end of the story the english were the “stupid” and “drunk” guys.

    • @margot4821

Russian hooligans jump Englishmen as they are drinking with their wives and girlfriends at the local cafés. They suckerpunch anyone they see. Showing up in boxershorts and vaseline on their faces. It was a joke. This did not make Russians the most feared, simply the most hated. It was cowardly and cheap, and we remember it as the most embarrassing thing to happen in a cup in a long time. And a disgrace to the culture.
