The World Cup is the most important event in sports history, that’s where every player plays for his country, is a really tough competition, it happens every 4 years and is even bigger than the Super Bowl, no cap
World cup is every 4 years so its super hard and rare to win it. And you have to have luck in your national team being good while in club football players can be traded and a perfect team can be crafted such as Barcelona in which the team is built around messi. They cant do that with Argentina as the current generation is not as good as teams like France and Spain.

They compete in the best Spanish league with 19 other teams (like Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla etc.) Just like LeBron plays for the Lakers in the best American basketball Leauge with other different teams. Every country in Europe (as well as the rest of the world) has its own league, so there are so many different good teams around the world!
If a team wants to buy you, you can, for instance, move from a team in England to a team in Italy and now play in a new league - just like Luka Doncic played for Real Madrid’s basketball team in Spain before moving to the Mavericks in the US in 2018.
Besides club football, we have national teams. These are the teams you will se in the World Cup, the Euros, the Olympics etc. Messi plays for Argentina, because that’s the country he’s from. In Lebron’s case, he would play for the US national team. It doesn’t matter what league you play in on a daily, you can only play for the national team/country you are from (or maybe the country of your parents) The national teams play each other a few times a year to qualify for the big tournaments, which are then usually played in the summer. The Euros are coming up this summer, while the next World Cup will be played in 2022😎

You got in soccer your playmakers (like a pointguard kinda) and also the forwards and wingers. These all play close to the other teams goal. The special thing with Messi is he can both create plays, assists, and score. He used to play close to the wing and rely on his speed and agility, but as he’s gotten older he’s not really lost that, but will rely more on his vision, his off-ball movement, and has been playing closer to the center. Messi is the greatest. He plays for FC Barcelona as his club/team in the Spanish league called Laliga. In this league, in Spain, 20 teams compete every football season (August - May, with International breaks in between and a summer break before starting a new season) playing 38 games in total. A win gives 3 points a draw gives one point and a lose none. The team with the most points at the end of the season wins the league, The bottom three are relegated to the second division replaced by qualifiers from the second division, and the top four qualify for the champions league. The champions league is as the name suggests, a league of champions. Top 4 teams from across Europe; England, Spain, Italy, Germany, etc., compete against each other playing two games against each team, home and away. You need to win the combined score to win against the opponents. Which is why in the video after Barca lost 4:0 to PSG, the best in France & one of the best, they won the tie because at home they beat them 6:1.
I respect Ronaldo no doubt. I consider these two the GOATS. However, I lean on Messi being the greatest Coz Messi can do it all. Messi can compete for most goals, most assists, best dribbler, etc., while Ronaldo, though extremely good, cannot compete for some of them. Ronaldo has played for three different clubs and excelled there which is one point many fans bring up to claim he is better than Messi. One thing I can say about that is that those teams were already extremely good even before Ronaldo. They have great players even before him. You could say "but yeah, he adapted and that is why he is the best" well Barca has not been the same either. Messi has played with about 4 generations of Barca now and He still does what he does.
To close off my argument, react to Messi vs Ronaldo, who is really the best? One fact Ronaldo is older than Messi and started his career way earlier than Messi but the goals are almost the same. Messi's position isn't really defined. I don't watch much basketball, but it is quite fluid, in which players will cover holes more than their positions I believe, but in football formations and positions are somewhat defined, but not completely.
Messi starts on the right wing on paper, but in reality, he just roams around the pitch where help is needed, more on the right side of the pitch than the left due to his relative one footedness.
His club FC Barcelona (the one I support and regularly watch) is currently a trainwreck. Back in the Guardiola days (2008-12), that side is considered the best side of all time, with talent to the brim with Xavi (not flashy, but perfect passing and understanding of space), Iniesta (perfect press resistance, flashier) and many others. The team's core slowly aged, and today, Pique, Busquets (arguably best holding midfielder of all time) and Messi are the only remainders. Another small golden period was 2015-17, when Neymar (strongly recommend checking him out, my favourite player, very flashy, incredible dribbling and creating capabilities) was growing as a player and a part of MSN (video mentions) with Suarez (best striker of this generation) and Messi.
If you're interested in why Barcelona is a trainwreck right now, I'll do my best at explaining it. Barcelona's president Laporta (current), stepped down in 2011 (end of term), and new president Rosell stepped over. He was corrupt and was more interested in Barcelona's image than on pitch performance. Barcelona was very succesful in marketing (highest grossing team in the football world), but the field performances were somewhat diminishing. After Rosell stepped down, his right hand man Bartomeu took over, and he just had no interest in Barcelona staying competitive. With Neymar's departure to PSG (not his fault), Barcelona received 222 million euros (around 250 million dollars), which all went to waste. Barcelona is the team that has spent the most money in the market in the last 5 years, with 3 of the 5 most expensive transfers of all time coming to Barca. None of them have worked out great (one because of injury, one was a waste of money and never fit the team and one kind of fits the team, but still a stupid purchase) and Barcelona's best signing was Pedri, an 18 year old who came from Spain's second division for cheap (recommend watching him, one of the best players of the Euro so far). Bartomeu stepped down last year (after a vote of no confidence) to make space for Laporta to return, but the club is in serious debt right now, and while far from going bankrupt, it will likely take 2-3 years at least of no big signings to pay off the debt.

In football the players play for a club and their country. Just like in NBA. For example Giannis plays for Bucks but he also plays for Greece too. But the whole system of getting players in a club is different in football because there are no trades and no FA and no salary cap

My brotha I’m loving this content. I grew up in Jamaica so football was life to me and still kinda is. Leo is simply Amazing!! He’s incredible with his vision, his dribbling, his technical lability and his goal scoring ability. The best ever to have worn the #10 jersey. Every country in the world has its own football league. The USA has the MLS (Major League Soccer), England has the Premier League, Italy has Serie A, Spain has La Liga, etc etc. Pretty much every city in each country has a football team. In Spain, Messi plays for Barcelona (this is a city in Spain). Some cities have multiple teams, if the city is big enough. (Think Baseball or Basketball, where New York has multiple teams).
Aside from playing for a club inside one of these leagues in a country, there are also international competitions held every 2 years where you play for your national country. Generally, players play for the country where they are from. Messi plays for Argentina because he's from there. (Think Olympics, where for example they made that USA basketball team where Lebron, Kobe, KD, etc played together)

Regarding the Messi and Ronaldo comparisons, it is difficult to compare the two of them since they are very different types of players so it usually comes down to a person's preference. Personally I prefer Messi. If I had to explain it in basketball terms I would say that Ronaldo has Kobe's work ethic and Lebron's insane athleticism whereas Messi has MJ's talent, Magic's passing and vision and Kyrie's handles. Messi is more talented but what makes Ronaldo close the gap to Messi is that hard work, he is already at the age where most players retire from the sport or go to a less competitive league but he is still one of the best players around and easily one of the most athletic players
Messi is both a great goalscorer and a playmaker whereas Ronaldo is predominantly a great goalscorer but he has shown that he can be a good playmaker at times but nowhere near the same level as Messi. I would say that Ronaldo is more clinical since he scores with his weak foot and his head (Messi does the same but not nearly as much). Either way both are great and are the goats of the sport.
