This is an excellent tutorial! When I finish the project I'm on now I want to do some 3D cutting! Thank you! I definitely have you on my list of channels to watch! God bless!
Thanks for your video! I've been scrolling for 40 years now but have been involved in "compound cutting" for about six years or more now. I really got into it when my daughter gave me a book on making chess pieces and boards. The book detailed how to make chess sets with different themes as Paris, Venice, Canterbury Castle, San Francisco etc. I thought she was crazy! It terrified me! I let the book sit for about two or three years and finally, I thought I'd give it a try. I experimented using pine and to my surprise, the figure came out nice. The book also gave patterns for braces you can use to make more accurate cuts. It was all good until I started using exotic hardwoods which take a lot more concentration and patience! Since then I made two complete sets which consisted of Canterbury Castle opposite of Paris with a chessboard and another set with a standard set made of Indian Ebony opposite a contemporary set made out of failed chessboard pieces on a purchased chessboard. This hobby has made extremely satisfied with wood working. But it seems there's few who want to undertake the time to try it for lack of patience. Scroll sawing is for very few, sort of like a brotherhood!
@@davidpark8643 Yes!, I now have two books on making Chess Pieces: the one I mentioned above is by Jim Kape "Making Wooden Chess Sets" ISBN: 978-1-56523-457-4 and one by Diana Thompson "Wooden Chess Sets You Can Make" ISBN: 978-1-56523-188-7. The second book has a number of unique sets that you might also like. Let me know if you find them!
I've searched far and wide on the net to find this pattern to download. No luck. I presume that you don't have the pdf file in your possession, huh? Great job by the way! Maybe I should have started with that? The ornament looks most excellent.
Just started on compound cutting my brain still can't process how with straight blade cuts you can end up with these fantastic items. Does liquid food colouring work as good as powder? Loved the real time video
@@kenspencerknrcreativewoodw3331 Thank you. Looks like I cannot locate him anywhere.. Oh Well.. Also, I have watched a couple of your videos so far and subscribed. I am a beginner. Still getting used to all the turns, etc trying not to leave dimples and all that bumpy stuff. You do great work!

Thank you so much for the whole process!!! What type of wood are you using?
For this one it was cedar, but I also use spruce and pine
Hey Ken, Where can I find the pattern for this ornament? I would really like to try this one. What blade did you use?
I found the pattern on Facebook years ago, the designers name was Roy Forsyth
Screen capture works, but nothing stopping you being creative and making your own variation of it
❤❤❤❤
I would more than likely snap that into about three to four pieces while sanding it.

@@kenspencerknrcreativewoodw3331 I ended up drawing my own and it looks next to original, if I do say so myself.

Thank you, I find liquid food colouring to be very light when mixing it. That’s why I use powder. I recently uploaded a video on the process
Great video.well explained I'm a beginner I'm gonna try this out what size blade did u use and it is pine right ... First class job
I used a #9 Flying Dutchman ultra reverse blade and the material was spruce… thanks for watching 👍😊
What does the waste look like if presented together ? Is there enough detail to make 2 different ornaments?
What sprial cut blades are for thick wood I'm just starting and try to find out as much as I can thanks
I rarely use spiral blades, that being said, if you are using them for thick wood I would say at least a #5
Would like to get the pattern but can't find it anywhere
