the thing that makes the chocolate banana scene particularly special is that not only did Richie remember that moment from 5 years ago, but it was from a conversation he overheard. Cicero was sharing that story with Tiff, not Richie. it showcases how much Richie pays attention to people, remembers details about them, and can utilize that to be an amazing host. thanks for an amazing series of reactions! I've looked forward to Sundays for weeks now and I'm so hyped for Season 3! 😃

I interpreted the Donna scene as Donna being fully aware of just how much damage she's done to her kids.
When she says, "I don't know how to say sorry," it's not so much her refusing to take responsibility but rather her realizing that a simple "sorry" is nowhere near enough to fully repair the hurt she's inflicted.
It's going to take a lot more than that, and it's very possible that it might cause at least one of the kids to regress. I can definitely see how all of that would be overwhelming for a neurotypical person, let alone Donna, who is clearly very emotionally fragile herself.
But yes, this is still something she has to confront eventually, and I can't wait to see how that goes down in S3.

Pete is the MVP this episode honestly. Every time I think bout his scene with Donna, and when he cries at the table afterwards because he's so proud of his wife and just wants everyone to be happy, God I just sob uncontrollably. Donna puts my emotional and mental health right back into childhood trauma territory, but I'm so glad Pete saw her. Boy is full of nothing but love, I'm so happy Nat has him. Everybody else in their family might not understand or appreciate Pete but he's exactly what Nat needs in her world of chaos.

Richie absolutely deserved the credit for taking charge. Actually when syd asked Tina and Richie didn't take offense, that's the thing that showed the most growth. Old Richie wouldn't have understood the apprehension of letting someone who isn't kitchen staff handle something like that and he would've definitely referred back to the season 1 situation

It's a brilliantly structured finale overall, and I really love that moment where Richie gives Cicero the chocolate banana. Jimmy mentioned this 5 years ago, and the two have hated each other for a pretty long time between these moments, and he still remembered that detail. Carmen was dead right- Richie is really good with people.

  • @lunaloutfy

Oh man… Carmy, trapped all alone in the freezer and locked out of his own success because he thinks he doesn’t deserve a shot at happiness and enjoyment… when literally everything happened because of him! None of them would have been able to thrive and triumph without him, and I seriously hope he knows just how special and important he is. The fact that he can’t enjoy it because he feels like he’s not supposed to, mirroring his relationship with Claire, breaks my heart. He deserves everything good in this world, and I just want him to get the therapy and help he rightfully deserves because I refuse to watch him go on like this. This has followed him his whole life and he’s literally like his mother. The parallels are actually insane, and everything was so intense. It’s all right there… literally and metaphorically. The way I want him to get out of that confined space (physically and mentally), just like the bear from the pilot in his dream sequence, is something I really want to see. Carmy doesn’t realize his full potential yet, and when he reaches those heights will be so satisfying and fulfilling to witness. However, I really do think that he is aware of that because that’s just who he is: A passionate, sensitive, and wounded bear, who will still lash out on you because he knows exactly what he’s doing, no matter what you throw at him, whether it be his trauma with his brother, or his upbringing with his mother.
Speaking of Donna, that scene with her being left out in the cold (similar to Carmy’s state) as she talked to Pete was heartbreakingly beautiful. I couldn’t stop crying. Their choice of choosing the most polar opposite characters on the show for this moment is simply perfect. Loved this reaction so much, you guys, and I can’t wait to see your reactions for season 3 😭❤️

i've rewatched this episode a few times. but i've only just realized that the alarm beeping so frequently in the background reminds me of the alarm ringing in 2x6 with donna. it shows how similar carmy is to her in that moment -- chaotic, confrontational, and all over the place. the fact that the beeping stops once carmy is in the fridge + no longer "helping" in the kitchen is just the cherry on top of this sweet little narrative parallel.

The thing I love about the bear and what makes it so damn entertaining is that it can go from unbelievably endearing to completely heartbreaking in just a matter of seconds but it's never cruel. All the drama comes from dynamics stablished seconds, episodes or seasons ago. Where other shows go for unpredictable shock, The Bear simmers their storylines and come up with such flavorful results (pun absolutely intended).

Carmy and his mom Donna need to be forced to go to therapy before they do even worse things to the ones they love. I truly believe Donna has combination of bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder. And if you look at how Carmy himself not only self sabotages and self destructs, he also clearly has mental health problems. I mean he hallucinated seeing the man who made his life a living hell because he’s blinded by stress and anxiety.
I’m convinced that whatever mental health problems Donna has she has passed on to Michael and Carmen.

Can’t wait for your season 3 watch.. I didn’t love it and there scenes in this, specifically with Donna and Pete, that I feel didn’t get pushed forward in the season. Donna had a great moment in season 3 with nat but idk there was just so much more that could’ve been done which I hope they do for season 4. Still interested to see what y’all think

This is such an amazing episode. It is almost perfect but that Claire voicemail brings it down a whole letter grade.
    Excited for season 3

@@mingoDcamara probably a Claire hater. Some people have this weird hate for her, I even saw some comments (on other channel) that blamed Claire for coming to the back to check Carmy - her freaking boyfriend if he is ok.

@@mingoDcamara I think it's a bit cheap. There's no need to underline the drama that just happened.

@@StephenN.Parker I think people don't like how her charcter was introduced.

I don't know if writers or actress but Syd drives me crazy. Always pinned as the voice of reason, the smart one, the reliable one. But besides being impatient, refuses to take criticism or accountability, while demanding perfection from everyone else. Just look at the scene where she's telling Tina to refire but gets angry when Carmy tells her right after to refire herself. Or the fact everyone blames marcus for shouting early in the service when you can clearly hear him asking repeatedly for an "all day" on deserts and she's ignoring him. Or my favorite, the way she totally froze up when carmy got stuck and definitely would have been screwed had Richie not been there to bail out kitchen.

She's an amazing chatcter and the actress is fantastic! Marcus can clearly see she's stressed and brought up him asking her out again instead of just asking for the "all day" again right next to her. She was already more stressed by carmy leaving and not taking his place going back & forth, then screaming at her. And then carry being stuck in the freezer by his own self sabotage.

@bethanychatman9531 This is the wildest cope and refusal of accountability I've ever seen. And i love the character and actress of Syd.

I love how you're itching and scratching for something to blame her for anything, even something of Carmy's own doing. You expect her to be a superwoman and take charge so easily and flawlessly as the most important aspect of service goes wrong, when the FREAKING HEAD CHEF couldn't manage something as simple as A PHONE CALL to fix a fridge!!!! A contact that was already provided that he didn't have to even seek out???
So f--king interesting. What? You need Sydney to be the ultimate mammy and magical n-gress ???? LMAO
