As subtle as they were, I thoroughly enjoyed the small details added in during the harvest festival. Sage's voice changing to the new Raphiel voice, Raphiel's blank emotionless stare during the resurrection ritual, the screen slowly shattering as sage finally busted down evolution's door, there were soooo many tiny details thrown in that set the mood of how much was going on at once. The only thing I found confusing, as an anime-only, was when the voice of the world and sage were talking to eachother. That scene was very confusing to understand without knowing ahead of time that Sage uses the voice of the world to talk...as they talk to the voice of the world.
Basically, Rimuru having Great Sage was like playing a game while reading walkthrough, and Rimuru having Raphael is like playing a game with trainer on
Well to be fair the shuna battle was more exciting to me in manga, cos rimuru vs clayman was ofc too ones sided, shuna battle was balanced,I hope the animation is done well for her too...
Rumuru had two wishes, first was that his computer hard drive get deleted. The second was if he got the chance, he would make sure he wouldn't die a virgin.
When I first realized what was Megiddo it kinda blew my mind and made the attack even more incredible. Also great sage/ Raphael hard carries our lovable slime and I’m here for it.

Plus when he explains to Rimuru is thermal resistance when fighting Ifrit he gave Rimuru the silent treatment so Raphael is constantly being exasperated, smug, proud, and even annoyed. Slot of the jokes of Raphael and Rimuru are glimpses of Raphael evolving
This video just seemed like a fan video for great sage

I would argue that Great Sage straight away had a personality on his own, right at the moment Slime Rimuru came to existence. Great Sage already showed us, the viewer, in the fight against Demon Lord Geld that it has emotions and isn't just an "answering machine". It was hesitant to give back Rimuru control of his body because the plan failed and got frustrated. Only after Rimuru said, "Leave it to me, partner" it accepted the result and gave control back. For me Great Sage is the most op/broken weapon in Rimuru's arsenal
As how I saw it, Great Sage responded to Rimiru's sadness. True despair, like Milim, seeing what it could do to those with kind hearts. Great Sage though isn't a being capable of emotion knew, just like an AI learning, by evolving would grant a better chance to get back Rimiru's happiness and therefore learned Compassion or Empathy.
Honestly knowing a little bit about the LN, I'm surprised we haven't seen Rimeru give Great Sage a body along the same lines of what he did for Veldora, if only to allow Great Sage to act independently when he's in some sort of trouble.
Well until now, great sage has pretty much just been a supercomputer with no real sense of self (except for small foreshadowing moments of emotion), so even if it was possible to give a skill with no soul a body, it would probably just end up standing there doing nothing until given a request or command
thats cause Raphael is in a constant state of combining and creating new spells, and micromanaging all the followers skills since rimuru can freely take and give skills to anyone he named
@@evans178 yes, but great sage is a part of Rimeru, and can clearly operate a body given the take over during the Geld fight, it's not as if Great Sage couldn't do all that and control a body.
Not everyone has the potential to acquire a demon lord seed and evolve into a true demon lord. For example even among monsters it's noted in the novels that the demon lord Dagruel cannot evolve into a True demon lord as he is a 100% holy being which makes him incompatible with the demonic elements necessary for such an awakening. (He's still as strong as a true demon lord even without evolving.) Ramiris might be another exception as the spirit queen. Humans also follow a different evolutionary path with multiple stages that relies on mastery of the self rather than consuming souls which culminates in awaking as a True Hero.
@@cellofellow5115 All fairies are actually spirits who attained physical bodies through demonification/magification or in other words exposure to a large amount of magicules. Also ramiris isn't technically weaker she may actually be even stronger than she was as the spirit queen though because the body of a fairy isn't as "convenient" as a spirits she has to reincarnate repeatedly to retain and increase her powers but the process takes a long time and is essentially like growing up repeatedly. Although her memories remain at least mostly she does still tend to forget things from like long ago although those probably return to her when she is an adult again since she is weaker temporarily in her child form. Although we know that it takes a little over a century for her to grow up from her infant state after each rebirth how long she remains an adult has not been revealed. I assume it has to be longer than her growth period or what even is the point?
@@bhagyshreetambe5060 Yeah it appears to havr to do with the spirit of light. Actually innitially it was described as having a contract either with a spirit of light or of darkness. However no hero so far has had anything to fo with the spirit of darkness every hero we have met has had the divine protection of tbe spirit of light with the exception of chloe/chronoa who is protected by the spirit of time. Either way its definitely something seperate from the traditional evolutionary process of humans though maybe not completely since hinata is a saint and has been mentioned to have the qualifications to awaken as ahero in other words the heroes egg but she didnt become a hero because she wasnt able to "accept" the spirit of light within her according to granbell.
I like how he only needed 10000 souls, but casually doubled the amount needed. I wonder if it has/ will have a significance later. Like it enable him to grow even stronger only because he had obtained more then he needed back then.
I like your priorities when it comes to what videos you make. Between Tensura, Overlord, and Re Zero, you cover a lot of information that's important to me. Thanks.
As an anime only fan, this videos help me get more perspective into what happened in the show and i appreciate the context. Not that i had questions as I've learned to just watch and enjoy
FYI: I have read every current yenPress release of the light novel because of you, and I can't get enough of this story, even the explanation videos. Still would love an in depth look at the 'Demon Lord' title versus the 'Demon Lord' (species ?).
I never realised it was elementals he was using in Megiddo. And I didn't see the voice of the world and great sage talking either. Makes so much more sense now.
There was a little exchange where Rimuru (as far as I remember) mentioned how Raphael sounded more human or expressive after the evolution, and Raphael denied it twice.
I don't know how many people have mentioned it but i really like how kinetic the typography feels when you use it. It punctuates the transitions so well, and always feels good.
I would love to watch a video explaining the character development Rimuru undergoes as the series progressed, his unleashing of Megiddo was as tragic as it was awesome. Like he said goodbye to his remaining humanity by embracing his monster side.
I always thought that in that scene where Rimuru massacres the army he is shoting water bullets or something. Very interesting to know that it was actually a laser like attack from refracting sun light. I like it even more
When Great Sage evolved into Raphael, it reminded me a lot of Ending E to Nier Automata. In ending E, the last main ending to the story, Pods 042 and 153 are initiating a protocol to erase all data related to the events of Nier Automata. However, both pods start discussing now it doesn’t “feel” right to erase all the memories and recorded events. The rest of ending E is about both pods fighting against their programming in order to save 2B, 9S, and A2 (the main characters). It’s probably one of the most emotional and moving pieces of video game art I have ever had in my life. You end up succeeding after several failures and trying over and over again. With the aid of other player’s saved data and breaking through the cycle, the pods emerge with “consciousness”, eventually rebuilding 2B, 9S, and A2.
I've always thought about how Great Sage and Voice of the World are going to end up being the same thing... Never read any of the novels though so I don't know if this could actually end up being a legit thing or not but... Rimuru's summoning + Great Sage being so broken seems... too coincidental and could become a really awesome story beat!
Idk i thought it was pretty clear Great Sage was trying to evolve in the anime. it specifically petitioned it to recieve it as a gift with its reasoning being it has a relationship with Rimaru, like the rest of Tempest. Then the voice change later as mentioned here. I do think it is developing its own emotions too. At the very least exasperation and annoyance.

Cool Video. I definitely appreciated what Raphael did for Rimuru as I watched the Anime, but when you break it down like this, I see the weight of what happened even more. Can't wait for the Skill video 😁
Spoiler for the light novel: It's even more amazing to see that this "emotions" that raphael is feeling is the one that also help his subsequent evolution into ciel!
Not really that is because of rimuru giving Raphael a name. But what's interesting is that it is not only wisdom lord Raphael that's a skill that can develop an ego any one of the so called virtue and sin series possess something akin to a will that can grow eventually becoming its own spiritual life form aka a manas
@@lucianabrahams3743 no what he said is correct. The first shred of great sage having emotion is seen when she requested the Voice of the world for evolution in order to full fill rimurus wish. And mind u, Rimuru didn't issue an order to great sage to help in the resurrection. It was all great sage wanting key word *wanting* to be helpful to Rimuru .
@@Asinatorsdaughter First of all that was when great sage demonstrated a sense of self not emotion. Even when it became Raphael it didn't really develop emotions it just began to think of itself as a separate entity. But what's most important is regarding the birth of ciel the Manas that only happened as a result of rimuru naming Raphael, the ego Raphael developed earlier is a significant and necessary step in the manifestation of the Manas ciel but Manas ciel wasn't born yet.

I had the same experience with not recognizing that Great Sage and Voice of the World was conversing! I only noticed it the second time I watched the anime while waiting for Part 2 and I was impressed with how Great Sage independently requested her own evolution as well as her request to evolve the other skills. She also even sacrificed Merciless which Rimuru thought to be something he couldn't and shouldn't use again when he acquired it. Raphael, best waifu
I was obsessed with Space Cadet 3D for years. Tensura/Slime Isekai is a fantastic, epic, well made story. I still lose myself to hours of reading or TH-cam videos or the manga, when Tensura comes up across my mind or screen. At least wanna see through volume 12 get animated. All of it animated would be best, and make the story make real sense, but I gotta at least see the ____ tell the story of what happened in the original _________. Some intense, heartbreaking stuff. I bet the animation for those scenes would be KILLER!
I think great sage saw the need to evolve after it couldn't answer the questions Rimaru asked when he saw what happened to he's friends while he was away...so in the end it saw that rimaru doesn't only need help with calculated and logical reasoning/buff up he's skill, but also emotionally involved way of thinking for when her master needs it

I feel it's important to note that great sage was actually attempting to evolve into "Unique Skill: Words of the World" and not anything like Raphael, but when it sacrificed Degenerate it somehow ended up with the "Ultimate Skill: Raphael." I also feel like had it evolved into Words of the World, it wouldn't have had gained such a distinct sense of self, and that it's sense of self was somewhat amplified when it became Raphael as a result of sacrificing degenerate.
"Petition to evolve unique skill: wise one (great sage) to The Voice Of The World " is the line you are talking about. In that line great sage is requesting to TVOTW Allows it to evolve . It can be any ultimate skill related to analyzing data. The Voice Of The World is not a skill , no one can get it
basically she turns into a being that has an ego that wants to please her master, and because rimuru treats her like an actual person she’s really happy with his kindness and imo was always in love with him from the moment she was “born”
It's kinda weird that Great Sage goes through one of the best characters arcs of any character of Tensura and its still going on eventually resulting in her becoming the undisputed best girl to the fans.
I watched the Harvest festival a few times and I really only noticed recently that the great sage was talking to the voice of the work. Specifically, this moment made me realize it: Great Sage: "Requesting Evolution of Great Sage" Voice of the world: "Granted"
There is something i want to point out... idk if you missed it or did not include it... do you remember the time that great sage fighting Geld the Orc Disaster?... that is when great sage started to doubt itself if it needs to yearn more of something or to want more power to help rimuru to obtain his wishes... well that doubt is get stronger when rimuru started to call her partner... well thats what i think... and im sorry for having a bad grammar
Oh so thats why when sage evolved again it feeling happy about the upgrade was an important change it was still cool enough to give me goosebumps without knowing that though
ngl it took me 3 rewatches of the anime to realize just how rare and important great sage’s evolution was, I like that even tho words of the world and Raphael have the same voice just the mere fact that Raphael speaks more fluid it’s enough to compare them both, and after it’s evolution Raphael also starts showing emotions it didn’t have before, I liked sage from the first interactions it had with Rimuru but even before s2 you can see little bits showing that sage may be more than just a computer as it shows little hints of having a will, and when the evolution happened that just solidify her as my favorite character, a computer gaining itself a will just to make its master’s wish come true
bruh since the first time i watch AniNews all i liked about his channel is his voice but sure the videos are quite good but his voice is on another level from his vidoes so I watch him to hear that sweet sweet voice of his cuz it is very good in my ears but not to be weird the video quality of his videos are still awesome to say the least

I am only going to try World Flipper, because you recommend it. These kinds of video's are amazing. As someone who finished the light novel, I didn't notice Raphael talking to the Voice of the World.
In my opinion, the exchange between Raphael and the Voice of the World seemed pretty obvious, and I've always considered Great Sage to be some sort of parallel sentient entity living inside Rimuru. But at the end of the day, it's only my opinion.
You know, when I saw Meggido on the anime, that was legit one of the scariest things I ever saw in anime, maybe at all. I thought "okay, this is legit the scariest way Rimuru could have done it"... THEN I SEE THIS VIDEO AND IT ACTUALLY BECOMES TEN TIMES WORSE! GEEZ! MY MAN RIMURU NEEDS TO CHILL OUT! Also, I just gained even more respect and appreciation for Raphael ❤❤❤💙💙💙💙💚💚💚💛💛💛💜💜💜
after watching a couple of dozen times, I believe that great sage, being unable to answer Rimuru’s questions when he saw shion and the others, and the knowledge that he would need belzebub to achieve his goal to bring everyone back to life, made it want to evolve

I've not read the LN or manga so all my surface knowledge comes from the anime, but listening to you explain all the inner workings of tensura shows how deeply layered this story and it's characters are. Thank you for a clear and concise break down to this incredible world.
Brilliant explanation as usual, this makes the show ever more amazing, thank you

I absolutely love these videos, Tensura is my favorite anime ever. I wish you could keep making vids on it forever
From what I heard about the evolution of Raphael, I can't wait to see her animated in 20 years
Very excited for walpurgis loved the whole explanation with Raphael would love to see a video on all of the evolutions including manas ciel
This video hit the nail on the head, Great Sage became self aware and tossed logic aside to make the impossible possible.
I saw this in the manga but when he was in the cave before meeting the Ogres he was thinking how he thought Shapeshifter/Degenerate was a boring skill but Great Sage at the time thought it was extremely useful and was creating and merging so many skills that Rimuru was shocked and later in the chapter it is a quick passing comment but Great Sage said "beginning self improvement" or something similar but these moments early on set up Great Sage/Raphael being sentient or more than just a skill.
The magic systems in this series are amazing. Great Sage is honestly the best on every layer of the game.
0:08 Hah! The clayman disrespect. He do be spittin though.
Day 5 of asking for a king hassan servant review
All my homies hate clayman
@@malice926 it would still most likely slow down the other functions in other to do so and it prob dotn think its worth it
Aren't skills "etched on the soul" or whatever? I would guess that means you can't meaningfully separate a skill from it's owner.
Didn't Ramiris become a Demon Lord, thereby removing her (true) title as spirit queen and actually making her weaker?
@@ninnaskcils1171 Oh really? I know strong creatures leak magicules but I didn't think that the type of creature had any affect
I think evolving into true hero had something to do with spirit of light. Because humans evolve into sage and Saint through training.
Thanks.
great vid was hoping you'd go over the small interaction between rimuru and a soldier that was thinking of his daughter

There was a little exchange where Rimuru (as far as I remember) mentioned how Raphael sounded more human or expressive after the evolution, and Raphael denied it twice.
as a Tensura addict I simply love how well made are your videos
I love these videos so much, I've watched them all multiple times and loved it every time. Thank you for this stellar content

When you realize that Great Sage/Raphael was technically Rimuru's first companion and his greatest asset, I mean best waifu. 😎
I like it even more
Thanks for explaining his attack. It looked cool of course but now knowing what it actually was makes it so much more impactful
It makes me really happy to see your channel go so well now I remember a time when this wasn't the case not too long ago congratulations!

Spoiler for the light novel:
It's even more amazing to see that this "emotions" that raphael is feeling is the one that also help his
subsequent evolution into ciel!
Yeah, but I doubt it if Rimuru didn't get tricked by Velgrind etc and go into 'rage mode' He wouldn't have had the idea to name a skill.

maybe this where manas ciel truly started to come into existence because of the desire for it's masters goals.

All of it animated would be best, and make the story make real sense, but I gotta at least see the ____ tell the story of what happened in the original _________. Some intense, heartbreaking stuff. I bet the animation for those scenes would be KILLER!
I think great sage saw the need to evolve after it couldn't answer the questions Rimaru asked when he saw what happened to he's friends while he was away...so in the end it saw that rimaru doesn't only need help with calculated and logical reasoning/buff up he's skill, but also emotionally involved way of thinking for when her master needs it
I also think so .
Another one is when rimuru vs geld happened. Great sage was in auto battle mode it didn't account for orc disaster gaining fire resistance then rimuru take controlle and say to great sage to improve .

ngl it took me 3 rewatches of the anime to realize just how rare and important great sage’s evolution was, I like that even tho words of the world and Raphael have the same voice just the mere fact that Raphael speaks more fluid it’s enough to compare them both, and after it’s evolution Raphael also starts showing emotions it didn’t have before, I liked sage from the first interactions it had with Rimuru but even before s2 you can see little bits showing that sage may be more than just a computer as it shows little hints of having a will, and when the evolution happened that just solidify her as my favorite character, a computer gaining itself a will just to make its master’s wish come true
