- In today's video, I show you how to turn these nutritious tiny sesame seeds into a delicious recipe that you can enjoy at home, Kenyan style. You dont have to get them in the supermarket or store where they are super expensive. In the video, I later show you how to prepare them when you have got them from the market because they are not as costly (yet not as clean either!) Please watch to the end and see how I prepared mine. I pray this video will be a blessing!

@@recipesandhospitalitywithclara I don't know why people believe those stories. how much saliva can one use for making just half a dozen balls. people are addicted to wild stories. but that's also what brought me here

Can i use honey instead of Sugar?
Thank you so much Fanuel! Yes He is involved in everything.
Yes you may use sugar. You could check out this one that I did with honey. I hope it will be helpful. Let me try paste it here to make it easier for you.

For the glory of God surely may God bless you for sharing....so I made but felt like it was too sweet...can't we add water to the sugar to dilute the sugar😂
Amen! Thank you so much!
Yes they are very sweet 😅 I wish we could.
The younger ones though don't mind them😄
Is it necessary to spread then to dry,or you can dry them directly when cooking?
Hi Caroline. You can dry them when cooking. Some people actually wash and cook directly. As they are frying on the pan, they eventually dry and then they can mix them with the sugar syrup.
Thanks so much for watching and being here!
Thanks for this wonderful lesson. After washing them, must you dry them before you roast?
You're welcome Maryjoy! Thank you so much for watching too.
I have seen someone online dry them as they roasted them on the pan. I'm sorry I've never tried this myself. 🤭
@recipesandhospitalitywithclara Thank you, and God bless.
@@maryjoykinyua3200 You're welcome!
What if the sisim cools after uv rolled how do you make it hard again
Thanks for watching!
I hope I've understood question. It hardens as it cools
Thanks for this..at what point do you add groundnuts and what else can you incorporate?
Thanks so much Beatrice for watching!
I didn't put groundnuts in this one but I would most likely fold them in when shaping the simsim into a bowl. Adding when in the pan can be quite a task.
I think you could make it into the semblance of the granola one I did on the channel😊 perhaps make the simsim seeds part of your granola once you've roasted the seeds in your pan. Hope this helps!
Can one use honey instead of sugar?
I must be honest Jane and say I have never tried with honey!🙈
I'm not sure how they'll turn out..
Thanks for watching!
Is there an alternative for sugar?
Thanks Mercie for watching..
I've not explored another alternative. I'll try to. If I find a way, I will share.
Pls where can one get the sesame seed in large quantity. Thks
Hi @faramade precious, are you in Kenya?
How do you remove the stone particles from simsim before roasting?
Towards the end of the video, I've explained how I wash them. I use lots of water. Mostly the stones should remain at the bottom. Once you've removed the simsim, you can pour out the water. You may lose a few simsim seeds but you won't have the stones. I hope that helps.
Thank mama
I really messed up everything today only remember seeing my mom do it when i was six now am 26yrs.....I messed up 😢😢😢😢
I'm always grateful that there is always an opportunity to try again. Let's trust it will work this time.
Do you wash the sesame seeds?
Hi Charity,
Yes I do wash and dry them then store especially because I buy from the market. The market ones are cheaper but quite dusty. Towards the end of the video, I show briefly my process of washing when I buy alot. Only ensure they are fully dry, then keep using as needed.
I am trying to make but wakati nishachanganya na sukari they get hard i cant make the balls again how can i go about it please
Don't get discouraged Nancy. They need you to work fast. Keep a very low fire going as you make the balls until you are done. The very low fire keeps the sugar somewhat melted (kiasi) until you are done.
I'm hopeful that helps.
Thanks so much for watching!
Where can I get the simsim seeds in Nairobi?
Hi Angela? I went to Githurai market to buy cereals and was pleasantly surprised that the one I bought from had simsim seeds. The price was the same as when I send for them from western Kenya.. only 10bob more. If they are in Githu, I'm certain they might be in Gikomba too. Hope that helps!
It sure does help. Thank you.
@@angelakiambi4256 you're welcome
I bought from Nyamakima
I prepared mine bt after putting sugar it doesn't brought nice results,I tried to make the bolls bt the seed can't come together what might b the problem
Hi Perry, thanks for watching the video!
Keep trying to press the seeds together as you follow the tutorial. The idea of compacting the seeds together is that as the sugar cools, it hardens. The seeds then harden together with the sugar. When it has cooled completely, the balls should have formed well.
Thanks much for the reply...God bless🙏🙏
@@Njerikofficial1336 you're welcome! I sincerely pray when you try again it will come out really well.
How many simsim balls do ¼kg bring out?
I'm so sorry I'm not so sure. I mostly work with the cup I'm showing in the video. I've not worked with kgs before now that I'll mostly buy more than 1kg so I mostly scoop with the cup.
Thanks so much for watching
Let me get up go wash mine
I trust you will enjoy your simsim balls too! Thank you so much Rael for watching!
Don't you add nutmeg or cinnamon in the mix for flavor
Feel free to add in case you like it with spice.
☺️We grew up preparing and eating without. We love the taste of sesame seeds as they are.
Thank you so much for watching!
Is it possible to use honey instead of sugar?
Thanks so much for watching Marija. I must confess I haven't tried using honey yet. When I do, I should give feedback..
My simsim balls come out to hard, is that am using to much sugar or what,?
Hi Irene, thanks for watching.
At what point were they hard? Usually, as sugar cools, it hardens. They then become hard as they cool. Depending on room temperature the next day, they seem to soften abit.
Incase they became hard as you prepared, the sugar was cooling. You keep it on very low heat until you finish shaping.
Incase it's after shaping, that's how they usually are; crunchy. Hope this helps!
Why does mine stick on the spoon when shaping them?
That does happen I think.. especially because once the spoon cools, the sugar starts to solidify. I would suggest using another spoon to get the mixture off the spoon you're using. Then continue to shape as fast as you can before it solidifies.
Also, as you keep doing this overtime, I think it gets easier and easier.
Hope this is helpful
I hate sim sim coz i found someone anatumia mate akipaka kwa mkono😅
Waah 😯
I would also hate it if I saw someone do it that way 😂
Thankfully, we can make it ourselves at home. Thanks so much for watching Valentine!
