  • In today's video, I show you how to turn these nutritious tiny sesame seeds into a delicious recipe that you can enjoy at home, Kenyan style. You dont have to get them in the supermarket or store where they are super expensive. In the video, I later show you how to prepare them when you have got them from the market because they are not as costly (yet not as clean either!) Please watch to the end and see how I prepared mine. I pray this video will be a blessing!
    You can print the recipe here:

      Hi Caroline. You can dry them when cooking. Some people actually wash and cook directly. As they are frying on the pan, they eventually dry and then they can mix them with the sugar syrup.

      I didn't put groundnuts in this one but I would most likely fold them in when shaping the simsim into a bowl. Adding when in the pan can be quite a task.
      I think you could make it into the semblance of the granola one I did on the channel😊 perhaps make the simsim seeds part of your granola once you've roasted the seeds in your pan. Hope this helps!

    • @recipesandhospitalitywithclara

      Towards the end of the video, I've explained how I wash them. I use lots of water. Mostly the stones should remain at the bottom. Once you've removed the simsim, you can pour out the water. You may lose a few simsim seeds but you won't have the stones. I hope that helps.

      Hi Charity,
      Yes I do wash and dry them then store especially because I buy from the market. The market ones are cheaper but quite dusty. Towards the end of the video, I show briefly my process of washing when I buy alot. Only ensure they are fully dry, then keep using as needed.

      Don't get discouraged Nancy. They need you to work fast. Keep a very low fire going as you make the balls until you are done. The very low fire keeps the sugar somewhat melted (kiasi) until you are done.
      I'm hopeful that helps.

      @recipesandhospitalitywithclara  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Perry, thanks for watching the video!
      Keep trying to press the seeds together as you follow the tutorial. The idea of compacting the seeds together is that as the sugar cools, it hardens. The seeds then harden together with the sugar. When it has cooled completely, the balls should have formed well.

    My simsim balls come out to hard, is that am using to much sugar or what,?

    • @recipesandhospitalitywithclara
      @recipesandhospitalitywithclara  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Irene, thanks for watching.
      At what point were they hard? Usually, as sugar cools, it hardens. They then become hard as they cool. Depending on room temperature the next day, they seem to soften abit.
      Incase they became hard as you prepared, the sugar was cooling. You keep it on very low heat until you finish shaping.
      Incase it's after shaping, that's how they usually are; crunchy. Hope this helps!

  • @carolinekendi2591
    @carolinekendi2591 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why does mine stick on the spoon when shaping them?

    • @recipesandhospitalitywithclara
      @recipesandhospitalitywithclara  ปีที่แล้ว

      That does happen I think.. especially because once the spoon cools, the sugar starts to solidify. I would suggest using another spoon to get the mixture off the spoon you're using. Then continue to shape as fast as you can before it solidifies.
      Also, as you keep doing this overtime, I think it gets easier and easier.
