Great upload as always. Thanks. Do you have the full version of the 1981 Pitt Panthers versus South Carolina Gamecocks game or any 1980 & 1981 Pitt Panthers full game?
when Dan left Pitt for the NFL, Foge Fazio, the head coach said "when Danny left it wasn't a matter of how much it would mean to the football program, it was Would there be a football program?".
A couple years removed from this game after Marino set the NFL on fire I read an article about his college exploits and one anecdote was that before this game the N.C. coach told his team in the week leading up to the game that "most of you will never play in the NFL but in this game you will be facing an NFL QB". He was not wrong.
When you look at Marino's numbers his senior year, you wonder what happened? Just about the entire team was back from that Sugar Bowl win from the year before. Somehow everyone on Pitt's team got worse
What happened? Jackie Sheryl left for Texas A&M. Foge Fazio was incompetent and clueless. Rumors surfaced all season the Danny boy was dancing on glass. That's the reason the Steelers passed on him ans selected Gabe Rivera
Remember... he threw 23 INT's in '81 (same as '82), he just had 37 TD's to go with it. John Brown was hurt mid-season just as Marino was starting to get it together. The schedule was much harder in '82 as well. First 4 opponents were all ranked!
Marino’s problem in college and ultimately in the pros was, he simply threw the ball to the other team too much. He didn’t respect the football. And coaches were always too much in awe of him to coach him from turning the ball over too much.
Could you imagine Marino on the Dolphins today, in 2022 with Tereek Hill and company, with the current rules where you can't touch a receiver nor the QB? He would throw for arena football like numbers...I would swag 65 TD's would not be out of the question.
Thank you for this game!
As a graduate student at Pitt, I attended this game!
What a defensive game and indicative of UNC history! Always coming up short in the big game!! Heels go down 7-6 against the great Dan Marino....
Nice job and thank you on this upload! I was a senior in high school and remember watching this game on tv.
I could be wrong, but I think this is CBS's reintroduction into college football coverage.
First regular season game since 1963

Jackie should have stayed 1 more year and then take over for the Bear in Alabama in 83
