I work with a cat rescue, so I’ve had a hell of a lot of cats in my life, both rescued ones that I’ve rehomed, and my own. If your companion made it past 15 years, then you did everything right and gave him an absolutely wonderful life. When you are ready, why not consider honoring what he brought into your life by opening your home to another cat desperately in need of the same kind of love and care? Think about it.

Margaret Atwood is potentially a TERF, however, we can still recognize that her stories have incredible societal importance and beautiful writing without condoning those beliefs of her or perpetuating them.

Don't discount "fiction" where it applies to literature. The best "fiction" always pulls from reality/the 'real' world. A master storyteller always gives you the truth, even when they're making up a tale. More often than not, fiction is one of the best ways to obtain a new perspective on our lives and current events. What's frightening about this story is that people said these things could never happen. Especially in America. Yet, as you pointed out, she didn't pull them from thin air. She pulled from headlines and the news. It happened back then, and it's still happening (or happening again), YES, even in "America".

😢devastating the second time around. I know more now, have seen, read, heard and experienced more. The laws concerning civil disobedience have changed; the laws concerning Women’s bodies have changed. Decades ago , the novel read as radically defiant of certain social norms. Certain advancements in the status of women, certain milestones in every human endeavor made by women, globally. In hindsight, that seems performative, excellence for sure but looking back now how easily overturned or stalked as time passed. The intransigence of what now appears as biological imperative is put simply, devastating. Are human beings perfectible or even salvageable begs the question. Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow…

The book has taken inspiration from real life historical events such as The Salem witch trials and the Romanian dictator that wanted to increase birth rates with his extreme pro-natalist views. I do not think men in power realize what will happen if this continues, women put up with a lot but this time they have gone to far, there is only so much they can do, of course I try to have a little bit more faith in humanity just because I know a lot of men are also angry about this but not enough to change anything. They are trying to police speech, we see it on platforms like Facebook, instagram, youtube. They create divisiveness with race, sexual orientation, between men and women, etc. Some examples of what’s going on in society: Sexual “freedom”, abortions are no longer taboo: in fact they are encouraged, marriage to a lot of people is no longer sacred, we live in a society where anything goes: sex sells, criminals aren’t punished, and they are literally sterilizing people with experimental surgeries and drugs, and there is literal biological warfare going on with all these “new illnesses/diseases” to name a few. They are creating chaos to become “saviors” of the people to try to control everyone and everything.

Please go and look up what you are thinking about.
It is insulting to us lgbt people that these books are in the library under lgbt content, and it is insulting that lgbt groups are trying to keep the paedophilic books in the library.

Even if it happened. Your rapist can just say you’re lying since women’s testimony is only 1/2 of a man’s.

I liked the show. But as the seasons goes on. The characters get really annoying and irritating, especially with the June Character.

I feel the same, seriously..… but, tbh, picturing myself, and if I had a daughter, that someone stole from me - for no real reason, when she already had a family (and SHOULD have been respected as just that); she wasn’t a baby, she was a kid - I wouldn’t be able to leave her; and in that, take many risks.. in every way I could 💜💜💜

I don’t see it that way at all!!
It just showed how psychologically messed up the victims can become.

Is there another book after this one? It can’t just end like that. What happens after she gets taken away?

Testaments, but honestly in my opinion it’s not as deep as this one.

In the testaments, we focus on aunt Lydia and junes two daughters Hannah and Holly/Nicole, Hannah grows up in gilead and becomes a pearl girl where she brings Nicole to gilead from Canada, she thinks she is recruiting her to gilead, but it’s a mayday plan to rescue them both, at the end of the novel we meet June and she gets to hug her daughters, but she got to raise neither of them, we are to assume that June escaped with Nicole and placed her with another family not so closely involved with mayday for her protection

It ends like that lol. The show continues after the book ending in the middle of season 1. The Testaments takes place I think 10-15 years in the future and June isn't in it at all

In the lords prayer 'the kingdom, power and glory' was a doxology added by Henry Viii in, I think 1541-2 as he wrote his 'Sìx articles of Faith'!
