  • The X670E AORUS MASTER, is a great gamer board but does fail somewhat to satisfy production focused clients.
No dual GPU support, a rather modest back IO, and a lacking PCIe 5.0
support on the storage sides of things.
At that price range, Gigabyte could have done better.
    Enjoy 😊

Great review, worth mentioning over the Asus pci-e layout is that whilst not ideal for dual gpu use its better for single gpu users as you can fill both the lower pci-e slots with cards and keep your gpu running at 16X. The Asus boards will lower your gpu to 8X as soon as you populate that lower slot. It would be nice if gigabyte supported PD on the front usb-c header like asus does however.

I am currently using this motherboard. In my custom liquid cooling system, I connected a probe that measures the water temperature to the motherboard and I had the opportunity to adjust my fans via the gigabyte software. This is an excellent feature, yes there was a probe mount on my msi x570s carbon motherboard before, but I could only see the water temperature and this was ridiculous.
Thanks for the review too. I am very happy with the 7700X processor and I really like this motherboard. :))

@@Laurentschoice you just don't know what you're talking about. You need to research this question, what is the difference between the 1220 and 4080? The ALC4080 and ALC1220 have equivalent specifications on paper. The difference is that the ALC1220 uses the Intel HD Audio standard, which uses a direct connection to the chipset bus. The ALC4080, on the other hand, uses a USB interface. USB audio is crap if it's not done right. I have a $700 Topping D90 DAC that has a terrible USB implementation that forces me to use optics. So spending more on USB audio isn't always better. Since the ALC4080 uses USB, people with ALC4080 mobas have reported crackles even through the optical output, which is unthinkable given that optical is supposed to be lossless and electrically isolated. So, among these two boards you named x670e aurus master stomping board

There is absolutely nothing wrong or lacking with the 1220. The analog parts of the audio cirquits are much much more important. ALC 4080 has been causing a lot of trouble for a lot of people since it came out, and it's connected internally via USB instead of I2S, likely increasing latency. I'm VERY glad that Gigabyte is sticking with the 1220.

Salut Lorant! I really like your MB-reviews, you just missed out on the one that I'd consider, although you've covered almost all others out of the series:
    The Asus ProArt x670e
The special thing about this one is, that you get 2x Gen5 x8, if both slots are in use, meaning: Two Gen4 (32 GB/s) GPUs, both equally CPU-bound - I have not seen any other board that splits the Gen5 slot in two like this, which might a big plus for creators, when using 2 GPU's, as both of them should be equally fast and performant, as it seems to me.
The ProArt x670e also features 10 GbE Lan, plus two USB4 on the back panel (no idea if those are indeed 40 Gb/s wide).
Would be nice to hear what you think about this board, as I'm just a user, no expert on motherboards or PC hardware.
Best regards and thank you for your deep insights and also your fun approach to cover those dry high-tech matters. Cheers!

    • @shareyourfare
      @shareyourfare 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

I thought about this some more, and my conclusion is, that the way ASUS did it on the ProArt x670e is the most efficient:
      - Either, I use a Gen 5 GPU, in the far future, then, the second (Gen5 x8) slot remains empty,.or I plug in 2 existing GPU or whatever boards, then both of them get 32 GB/s bandwidth. Either way, it always takes 16 lanes.
On every other board, it will take the 16 Gen5-lanes, plus 4 or 8 more lanes of the second PCIe-slot.
      - On the OroArt x670e, they have obviously put this saved bandwith into the two USB4 ports plus the 10G Ethernet, as it aeems to me.
      - My conclusion is:
The nerds should tell the mainboard makers, that they shall for now do it as on the ASUS ProArt x670e, as there are almost no Gen5 GPU's out yet, and the way ASUS shows it, we get two times Gen5 x8 directly connected to the CPU, which barely another board is able to deliver.
What do you think Laurent? - Is my.vertict right? Or is it not this way, cause I made a mistake?
      - I think we'd see much better boards coming out - esp. now as the x870e era is just getting launched, if we'd spread some awareness, as there is only so much you can do with 28 lanes, esp. if you already got 16 of them bound, and have only 12 left for ...
      a) the second CPU slot - ideally at least 8 lanes
      b) plus: all M.2 NMVe SSD's (but only 8 lanes left)
Better only 8+8 lanes on two Gen5 x8 slots, and have the full bandwidth of 99,99% of all GPUs!
Again, 12 CPU-lanes are available, but now, we hsve already plugged in two RTX A4000 boards into our two Gen5 x8 slots. - We have gained/saved 8 lanes by applying this trick!
      - Hope you know what I mean, it's pretty simple, but hard to explain.
      Cheers from Vienne, Yuri

Well, I was day-dreaming of this last night, guess that makes me as well some kind of nerdy tweaky nerdy nerd :)) ://
      ____
      Let's maximize PCIe connections:
      8+8 lanes, or 1x 16 Lanes: 1 or 2 GPU's
+4 Lanes: connect to Chipset A
      + 4 Lanes: connect to Chipset B
[uses twice the bandwidth to Chipsets]
      + 4 Lanes: 2x USB4 (80 Gb/s)
      + 2x 10 GbE Lan (20 Gb/s)
      + 28 Gb/s: low bandwitdth
      direct USB 2 & USB 3 ports
      Chipset A: 1x Gen 5 x4 SSD (128 Gb/s)
      + 1x USB4 (40 Gb/s)
      + 1x USB 3.2 x2 (20 Gb/2)
      + 2x 10 GbE Lan (20 Gb/s)
      + Rest: 48 Gb/s:USB 2 & 3 et al.
      Chipset B: 3x Gen 4 x4 SSD (192 Gb/s)
      + 1x USB4 (40 Gb/s)
      + 1x USB 3.2 x2 (20 Gb/2)
      + Rest: 4 Gb/s: USB 2 & 3 et al.
      ____
      So, I get:
      2x Gen5 x8 or 1x Gen5 x16 PCIe
      1x Gen5 x4 M.2 SSD
      3x Gen4.x4 M.2 SSD's
      4x 10 G Lan
      4x USB4 (40 Gb/s)
      2x USB 3.2 x2 (20 Gb/s)
plus some more USB 2 & 3 ports.
      _____
Well, I might deliver this to Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, ASRock & Co, maybe that can help to inspire them to give us more high-bandwidth connections, which are essential for 4k video productions and stuff like this. Cheers!

Very nice review which make me dive deeper into these MOBOs. Thanks. Nevertheless, I am curious why you are comparing this motherboard to "better ASUS Strix" which has 3x M.2x4 PCI5.0 lanes and one GPU x16 5.0 lane. This config is impossible and the gpu bandwidth of ASUS motherboard is robbed by one of M.2. As it is stated in AM5 - 24 usable PCI 5.0 lanes. You cant put 3x M.2 PCIx4 5.0 there, because the GPU will get only x8 (taken from the manual). Therefore this one argument over the Aorus Master is burried down. Another is the sound card :). The 1220 and 4080 have very similar sound quality so there will not be a huge difference from the codec itself. More it will be from capacitors used there (and the Aorus Master has some polymer WIMA filter caps there - which ensures huge quality of sound). Second argument....
Can You convince me to buy ASUS once??

4:27 🍌 So, I was studying the VRM heatsink, and I can't figure out if the air passes through it or it just stagnates inside. In addition there is a small cover (the one with "AORUS DESIGNLAB" on it) which facilitates the stagnation of air flows. can anyone explain to me please? Because, you know, someone have an aftermarket aircooler (lateral air instead of spreaded air to the sides)... And please, don't just answer with "it works", because dust can say nope.

Merry Christmas, indeed, Laurent; All the Best to You and Yours in the New Year!!! 😀
FINALLY!!! the X670E Master!!! =) ...about which I have a question; how fast would putting two Barracuda 530 2TB m.2's IN RAID 0 into the two processor connected (primary???) slots?!?? >=)
It IS a Gen5 x4 bus link; therefore, theoretically, there should be SUFFICIENT BANDWIDTH to run both drives at max speed with ZERO BOTTLENECKING to slow either drive...!?!! 🤔😏😉🤫🫡
