No, 30 conscripts with a commisar WAS pretty good. Now, take 3 infantry units. Same points, morale doesn't affect other units, and commisars are all but pointless today.

My dude I had the same kinda hang ups with guard so I made them more into like an airborne thing with three Valkyries and troops with artillery in the back. What I like about guardsmen is you can just do really whatever you want and sure might not be amazing or anything but its fun as hells
Guard are an extremely aggressive gunline. If you sit back with them, you'll lose. You actually need to be pushing the entire game. Infantry squads are actually very fast, so you're playing a game of maneuvers. Can you move enough guys to hold an objective before you're shot off of it.
I’ve been wanting to get into warhammer but to no avail, I allways get hung up when it comes to comparing units to others when Im figuring out who to take. This helps me weed out units and make proper educated choices with my finances and list building! I need one for the Custodes so badly!!! I would love to see Valks used more often, as I've bought 2 of them recently just so I can relive my days of dropping off Pelicans in Halo but with Scions and Bullgryns. If Guard ever gets Jeeps and Valks can carry them, then I would automatically buy 15 Valks.
@@orkermon7292 Its the Elysian tauros. And its cooler than hell. But that was the Sky Talon Valkyrie, also an Elysian exclusive. There was also a DROP SENTINEL, which is as cool as it sounds. The whole of Elysia got nixxed going into 9th, along with traitor guard, and half of Krieg.

Id love this style of video on Necrons and Space Marines (that might be too broad) Maybe you can do a video on the Indomitus box and rank those units for usefulness etc. Would be really helpful for all of the budget player you guys have gotten into this game!
Veterans paired with the ‘experienced eyes’ stratagem is really good. Give them first rank second rank and use the stratagem stated before gives you 36 lasgun shots hitting on 3s wounding on 5s (most of the time) at an ap -1. I have destroyed so many units with that.
I love this as a sorta have visual guide to a faction and half tacticle as that sweet spot of what looks cool and what is good is generally how I build armies

As a fellow Imperial Guard player for over a 12 years ( from 2006 to 2018 when I stopped playing, mosty because of lack of time ), this list definietly brings back some memories. Few adnotation : "Fun but overcosted" is basicly a IG anthem at this point :P . Calling guard fragile is like calling Space Marine stronger than average human - true but also compleatly misses the scale of the issue :P . If you are playing horde, you might as well just bring showel to remove models from board en masse. So regular Ogryns still suck balls ? Well, good to know some things never change :P . "Meta is marine heavy" . Brother, metagame is ALWAYS ( with *very few* exceptions in whole history of the game ) overcrowded by some flavour of power armour, be it boys in cyan blue, red, silver or spikes :P . Space Marines are GW favourite child (and income source :P ), they always be relevant is some form. 1:45 - ^^
Personally, Tallarn storm lord with veteran squads embarked, it’s open topped so 20 models can fire while protected by it. Sure no invuln and could use tank ace to make it receive benefits or not. But important thing is the stratagem ambush. You can put this in ambush and put on any battlefield edge with over 40 infantry ready to depart. Idk just a fun little gag
I think this tier list shows a lot about Bricky's playstyle and how the dice check peeps play in general. They're all really focused on objectives and secondaries, which I mean they're amazingly important. This man is a Drop Troopers commander through and through. Like everything he likes is Alpha strikey or designed to be able to hit the enemy turn one. The Leman is far less fragile if you run them as Valhallans, due to them not degrading till they're on their last couple wounds. The real strength of the Leman is it's cheap and hits like a truck. I'm not gonna do a big rant post but go check out goonhammer and 1d4chan tactica to see how to use Lemans effectively. Tank commanders are just better though but you got that 3 limit. @@Kingofsea7591 you can give them a 2+ save or a 4++ save Look at them as a single 30 wound model and you'd absolutely take it, they are a fucking quagmire to grind through and if they can lock terminators off an objective for 1 or 2 turns then they have served their purpose. Given how tough you can make them they absolutely CAN do that and if they take even a single terminator with them then it's BASICALLY amazing
I shall now argue for a good situation for the wyrdvane psykers because I think they can be pretty neat. You can put them, a primaris psyker, and an inquisitor into a valkyrie and in turn 1 drop a decent mortal wound bomb on the table, all it takes is 1CP to use the psychic conclave stratagem and make 1 primaris psyker and some wyrdvanes cumulatively perform 4 psychic manifestations and both gain +2 to their rolls while knowing up to 3 different powers + smite. If you're willing to splash out and take 6 of the wyrdvanes they get D6+4 for their manifestations which is an auto-smite that can't perils, and for the primaris psyker those tantalising but risky warp charge 7 powers become effectively warp charge 5, and you can super smite on a roll of a 9+ instead of an 11+. Psychic maelstrom is mortal wound output that can pick out characters regardless of screening, terrifying visions makes inquisitors castigation power (which can also pick characters) much easier to activate, and you can get up to 3 smites in addition for between 134 and 158 points (naked malleus inquisitor with 2 manifestations trait + 1 primaris psyker + 3 to 6 wyrdvantes). This little bomb can be just what you need to answer certain units that are basically impossible to deal with conventionally and with a +2 to manifest it gives you the upper hand when psychic denies are available. From mental maths and assuming all casts go off this little combo will drop average 10 ish mortal wounds and can be basically anywhere on the map out of a valkyrie. 4 these mortal wounds can also go on any character within 18", bolster this up with a little conventional sniping and you've got an apothecary removal tool. So yea D tier conventionally, but you don't take them conventionally, you take them to be a 24 or 48 point addition to a primaris psyker and quadruple the combined psychic output, more if you take the boost to your test into account. With the way the meta is going now with low wound count high invul units everywhere, mortal wounds are waaaay more valuable than ever so I think it can definitely be worth it. You can also just start with them on the ground and spend the 1CP to buff the primaris psyker to cast both both nightshroud and psychic barrier on 4+ and have the 24 points of wyrdvanes deploy scramblers in your own deployment zone while out of sight, they're actually cheaper action monkeys than servitors and can roid up a psyker for 1CP, what's not to like? @@killhitler In the Guard Psychic Awakening book it states you can use the tank ace stratagem for 1cp and/or forgo using a warlord trait for a second tank ace. So you can make Creed your warlord, not give him his trait, and then just take another full payload manticore.
@@JustAScarecrow1 I am a Cadian player so I would love for this to be true but it currently isn't. On page 140 in the Guard codex it says "If a named character with a specific regiment keyword is your Warlord, they *MUST* be given the associated Warlord Trait." You have to take the warlord trait for Creed. Futhermore, in the Psychic Awakening it says "If an ASTRA MILITARUM CHARACTER is your Warlord, rather than determining a Warlord Trait for that model, you can instead select one Tank Ace ability for an ASTRA MILITARUM VEHICLE model from your army." To reiterate, It says rather than determining your Warlord Trait, you can pick a Tank Ace, since Creeds trait is predetermined you cannot exchange it. Also, it just plainly says you must take it. Rules as written, there is really nothing to haggle about. I really wish we could because Creed's warlord trait is kind of useless unless you are very infantry heavy army :(.

Officer of the fleet is shit in Guard but B plus-ish in Scions. Allowing your Valks to re-roll 1's when they usually hit on 3's in hover mode is pretty tasty. And with the Greater Good Tempestus strategem, his strafing run ability can be picked from 18'' of any Scions unit with a vox.
Yarrick is worth his weight in gold for a Tempestus Scion air cav. army. His re-roll 1's bubble frees up so many orders for other things (even good with the Lions WL trait doing the same). My Kappic force with Laurels means I'm getting off the equivalent of 3 orders on one unit since I'm gaining up to two orders 50% of the time without wasting one for Take Aim. That means a lot more First Rank Fire or Elimination Protocol Sanctioned.
Most Tournaments rule you can not trade out named character Warlords traits for Tank Aces, find the logic below. The player commanding an army with a named character as warlord does not determine the warlord trait as it is preselected. The tank ace ability triggers in place of determining the Warlord trait for your Warlord. Therefore, the tank ace ability cannot trigger when given to a named character as the underlying conditions are not met. Great content though keep it up, massive fan of Adeptus Ridiculous
I want a deathstrike missile launcher, the pure joy and maniacle laughter you get when you launch it are worth all the strategic setbacks that you take to put it on the table.
Something small that you made a mistake/missed, Straken actually is S7. Hes Strength 6 base and locked to catachan, which means he still gets the regiment trait of +1 strength, same as like pask or creed getting the reroll hit rolls of 1 if you dont move. Also he has that reroll failed wounds vs monsters, which is kinda funny and fluffy to yeet him at a carnie or very funny if he get in range of like a ghostkeel or a riptide, as he can actually kinda hurt them well. Oh and uh, small note on ogyrn bodyguards, you can make a bullgryn with more attacks, a 2+/4++ 6W w/ character protection himself, and gives characters bodyguard protection, which is amusing. I do wonder how this overall list would change now, even though its only a few months old, you guys have learned a lot really.
amm pask is able to take a demolisher cannon sponsors hunter killer misile and basically all of that he dont have any restriction into that what is more the common load for 8 was with punisher cannon

For 5pts you can put Track Guards on your hellhound to make it move max speed no matter the wounds. With the flamers in shooting and overwatch I feel they are fine. The explode is quite fine
Iron hand Straken and the ministorum priest have different abilities so their +1 attack stack on Catachans. 3 ST4 melee attacks for a 5 point model is great.
Someone correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe Straken is limited to a Catachan army, Similar to Creed being exclusive to Cadia. But also, due to being Catachan Straken benefits from +1 strength from "Brutal Strength"
bruhhhh pask CAN 100% take any turret, pask is s tier bro?! grinding advance with a punisher is like 38 s5 hits, then 9 bolter shots if you want as well, HKM hitting on a 2 rerolling 1? screen this guy as hard as possible and let him mulch through infantry or plink anything else to death. fully kitted out its entirely possible for him to wipe 5 man squads of eradicators
If you are really worried about Deny the Witch, just pay 60 points for a base Inquisitor. All around better and has a bunch of special weapons they can take for free now. Can even spend 1 cp and if they are Ordo Malleus, get +1 cast/deny/know and can give a unit a 5++. Also, don't compare point for units from different 'dexes. That's how shit gets screwed up. For example, you cant compare the Infantry Squad's point cost to Cultist's, because the Squad is our primary troop choice.

Given that the baneblade is the reason I got into Warhammer to say nothing of the Guard itself it hurts me so bad what they've done to it in 9th, especially coming out of 8th where it was kind of viable, never S tier, but you could have fun with it. Now you give up so much just to have it in your army and then it gets blown off the board in your first turn half the time. I really hope the codex just fully revamps guard in the way the Death Guard codex has revamped that faction, we kind of need it.
The Officer of the Fleet is good in Tempestus lists, where you run 4 or more Valkyries. Then he becomes really good as you have no other way of giving re-rolls to the Valkyries. I'd put him in B probably.

So, im starting guard and i wanted to ask, has the commisar not having the officer keyword if he has the warlord trait that allows him to issue orders been changed? if not i think a commisar conscript combo would be pretty neat, 120 shots, 9 leadership, sure hitting on 5s and wounding on 5s aswell (unless deamons, eldar, guard, cults and other 3T factions in which case its 4+) but its still pretty cool. If you run a custom regiment with the benefit to cover unless advanced you have a 30 wound ball with 4+ save, add an inquisitor for a 5+ invul and maybe add a company commander if you have the custom regiment of -1 ap if close to a commander, support the commander with some veterans or basic infantry so his orders aren't wasted and boom, a 30 man ball of hitting on 5s, 4+ save, 5+ invul, ap1, 120 shots not counting the veterans/infantry thats there to support the commander. If you really want to annoy your enemy add bullgryns and whenever the enemy tries to kill your conscripts use 1 cp for the -1 to hit if bullgryns are closer and 1 additional cp for +1 to save giving them 3+ saves. Pretty pog if i do say so myself.
Uhhhh... He dropped the ball BAD when talking about the Basilisk at 23:30. The Earthshaker Cannon is S9, not S7, and while it's 1d6 shots, you specifically roll two dice and take the highest. Sure it's not S or A tier material, but it's definitely good enough to put it in B. Especially since it's a full 20 points cheaper than a Manticore.
I pretty much agree but I have to say that Sergeant Kell is far from trash. He's not A or even hardly B, but having additional order on Creed (making it 4 and 5 with a strategem) is very powerfull. Also he is good to cover Creed against snipers.
Humans are fine but what about the Space-Shrooms?! (Orks) And the Space-Bugs?! Would love to see more of the factions. Super cool for beginners like me.

I've always been a fan of Aircav (rip Elysians), and the 9th changes to vehicles made the valks so much better for what I do.

Personally, Tallarn storm lord with veteran squads embarked, it’s open topped so 20 models can fire while protected by it. Sure no invuln and could use tank ace to make it receive benefits or not. But important thing is the stratagem ambush. You can put this in ambush and put on any battlefield edge with over 40 infantry ready to depart. Idk just a fun little gag
I think this tier list shows a lot about Bricky's playstyle and how the dice check peeps play in general. They're all really focused on objectives and secondaries, which I mean they're amazingly important.
This man is a Drop Troopers commander through and through. Like everything he likes is Alpha strikey or designed to be able to hit the enemy turn one.
The Leman is far less fragile if you run them as Valhallans, due to them not degrading till they're on their last couple wounds.
The real strength of the Leman is it's cheap and hits like a truck. I'm not gonna do a big rant post but go check out goonhammer and 1d4chan tactica to see how to use Lemans effectively.
Tank commanders are just better though but you got that 3 limit. Good luck my fellow treadheads

Look at them as a single 30 wound model and you'd absolutely take it, they are a fucking quagmire to grind through and if they can lock terminators off an objective for 1 or 2 turns then they have served their purpose. Given how tough you can make them they absolutely CAN do that and if they take even a single terminator with them then it's BASICALLY amazing

I shall now argue for a good situation for the wyrdvane psykers because I think they can be pretty neat.
You can put them, a primaris psyker, and an inquisitor into a valkyrie and in turn 1 drop a decent mortal wound bomb on the table, all it takes is 1CP to use the psychic conclave stratagem and make 1 primaris psyker and some wyrdvanes cumulatively perform 4 psychic manifestations and both gain +2 to their rolls while knowing up to 3 different powers + smite. If you're willing to splash out and take 6 of the wyrdvanes they get D6+4 for their manifestations which is an auto-smite that can't perils, and for the primaris psyker those tantalising but risky warp charge 7 powers become effectively warp charge 5, and you can super smite on a roll of a 9+ instead of an 11+.
Psychic maelstrom is mortal wound output that can pick out characters regardless of screening, terrifying visions makes inquisitors castigation power (which can also pick characters) much easier to activate, and you can get up to 3 smites in addition for between 134 and 158 points (naked malleus inquisitor with 2 manifestations trait + 1 primaris psyker + 3 to 6 wyrdvantes). This little bomb can be just what you need to answer certain units that are basically impossible to deal with conventionally and with a +2 to manifest it gives you the upper hand when psychic denies are available. From mental maths and assuming all casts go off this little combo will drop average 10 ish mortal wounds and can be basically anywhere on the map out of a valkyrie. 4 these mortal wounds can also go on any character within 18", bolster this up with a little conventional sniping and you've got an apothecary removal tool.
So yea D tier conventionally, but you don't take them conventionally, you take them to be a 24 or 48 point addition to a primaris psyker and quadruple the combined psychic output, more if you take the boost to your test into account. With the way the meta is going now with low wound count high invul units everywhere, mortal wounds are waaaay more valuable than ever so I think it can definitely be worth it. You can also just start with them on the ground and spend the 1CP to buff the primaris psyker to cast both both nightshroud and psychic barrier on 4+ and have the 24 points of wyrdvanes deploy scramblers in your own deployment zone while out of sight, they're actually cheaper action monkeys than servitors and can roid up a psyker for 1CP, what's not to like?

I am pretty sure he is mistaken. It says you *must* take his warlord trait. Rules as written you cannot exchange his warlord trait for a Tank Ace.
@@killhitler In the Guard Psychic Awakening book it states you can use the tank ace stratagem for 1cp and/or forgo using a warlord trait for a second tank ace. So you can make Creed your warlord, not give him his trait, and then just take another full payload manticore.
@@JustAScarecrow1 I am a Cadian player so I would love for this to be true but it currently isn't. On page 140 in the Guard codex it says "If a named character with a specific regiment keyword is your Warlord, they *MUST* be given the associated Warlord Trait." You have to take the warlord trait for Creed. Futhermore, in the Psychic Awakening it says "If an ASTRA MILITARUM CHARACTER is your Warlord, rather than determining a Warlord Trait for that model, you can instead select one Tank Ace ability for an ASTRA MILITARUM VEHICLE model from your army." To reiterate, It says rather than determining your Warlord Trait, you can pick a Tank Ace, since Creeds trait is predetermined you cannot exchange it. Also, it just plainly says you must take it. Rules as written, there is really nothing to haggle about.
I really wish we could because Creed's warlord trait is kind of useless unless you are very infantry heavy army :(.

Officer of the fleet is shit in Guard but B plus-ish in Scions. Allowing your Valks to re-roll 1's when they usually hit on 3's in hover mode is pretty tasty. And with the Greater Good Tempestus strategem, his strafing run ability can be picked from 18'' of any Scions unit with a vox.

Yarrick is worth his weight in gold for a Tempestus Scion air cav. army. His re-roll 1's bubble frees up so many orders for other things (even good with the Lions WL trait doing the same). My Kappic force with Laurels means I'm getting off the equivalent of 3 orders on one unit since I'm gaining up to two orders 50% of the time without wasting one for Take Aim. That means a lot more First Rank Fire or Elimination Protocol Sanctioned.
Most Tournaments rule you can not trade out named character Warlords traits for Tank Aces, find the logic below.
The player commanding an army with a named character as warlord does not determine the warlord trait as it is preselected.
The tank ace ability triggers in place of determining the Warlord trait for your Warlord.
Therefore, the tank ace ability cannot trigger when given to a named character as the underlying conditions are not met.

19:06 there's a typo, fargile instead of fragile.
Something small that you made a mistake/missed, Straken actually is S7. Hes Strength 6 base and locked to catachan, which means he still gets the regiment trait of +1 strength, same as like pask or creed getting the reroll hit rolls of 1 if you dont move.
Also he has that reroll failed wounds vs monsters, which is kinda funny and fluffy to yeet him at a carnie or very funny if he get in range of like a ghostkeel or a riptide, as he can actually kinda hurt them well.
Oh and uh, small note on ogyrn bodyguards, you can make a bullgryn with more attacks, a 2+/4++ 6W w/ character protection himself, and gives characters bodyguard protection, which is amusing.
I do wonder how this overall list would change now, even though its only a few months old, you guys have learned a lot really.

For 5pts you can put Track Guards on your hellhound to make it move max speed no matter the wounds. With the flamers in shooting and overwatch I feel they are fine. The explode is quite fine

Iron hand Straken and the ministorum priest have different abilities so their +1 attack stack on Catachans. 3 ST4 melee attacks for a 5 point model is great.
Someone correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe Straken is limited to a Catachan army, Similar to Creed being exclusive to Cadia.
But also, due to being Catachan Straken benefits from +1 strength from "Brutal Strength"
bruhhhh pask CAN 100% take any turret, pask is s tier bro?! grinding advance with a punisher is like 38 s5 hits, then 9 bolter shots if you want as well, HKM hitting on a 2 rerolling 1? screen this guy as hard as possible and let him mulch through infantry or plink anything else to death. fully kitted out its entirely possible for him to wipe 5 man squads of eradicators
If you are really worried about Deny the Witch, just pay 60 points for a base Inquisitor. All around better and has a bunch of special weapons they can take for free now. Can even spend 1 cp and if they are Ordo Malleus, get +1 cast/deny/know and can give a unit a 5++. Also, don't compare point for units from different 'dexes. That's how shit gets screwed up. For example, you cant compare the Infantry Squad's point cost to Cultist's, because the Squad is our primary troop choice.
Bricky my friend, u forgot the crusaders, they get a solid buff, they get 16 price p/m , now the miracles u can choose wat u get , no more rolling the d6 ther get power swords and storm shield for a solid 3+/4+ i love it

Given that the baneblade is the reason I got into Warhammer to say nothing of the Guard itself it hurts me so bad what they've done to it in 9th, especially coming out of 8th where it was kind of viable, never S tier, but you could have fun with it. Now you give up so much just to have it in your army and then it gets blown off the board in your first turn half the time. I really hope the codex just fully revamps guard in the way the Death Guard codex has revamped that faction, we kind of need it.

The Officer of the Fleet is good in Tempestus lists, where you run 4 or more Valkyries. Then he becomes really good as you have no other way of giving re-rolls to the Valkyries. I'd put him in B probably.

So, im starting guard and i wanted to ask, has the commisar not having the officer keyword if he has the warlord trait that allows him to issue orders been changed? if not i think a commisar conscript combo would be pretty neat, 120 shots, 9 leadership, sure hitting on 5s and wounding on 5s aswell (unless deamons, eldar, guard, cults and other 3T factions in which case its 4+) but its still pretty cool. If you run a custom regiment with the benefit to cover unless advanced you have a 30 wound ball with 4+ save, add an inquisitor for a 5+ invul and maybe add a company commander if you have the custom regiment of -1 ap if close to a commander, support the commander with some veterans or basic infantry so his orders aren't wasted and boom, a 30 man ball of hitting on 5s, 4+ save, 5+ invul, ap1, 120 shots not counting the veterans/infantry thats there to support the commander. If you really want to annoy your enemy add bullgryns and whenever the enemy tries to kill your conscripts use 1 cp for the -1 to hit if bullgryns are closer and 1 additional cp for +1 to save giving them 3+ saves. Pretty pog if i do say so myself.

Uhhhh... He dropped the ball BAD when talking about the Basilisk at 23:30. The Earthshaker Cannon is S9, not S7, and while it's 1d6 shots, you specifically roll two dice and take the highest. Sure it's not S or A tier material, but it's definitely good enough to put it in B. Especially since it's a full 20 points cheaper than a Manticore.
I pretty much agree but I have to say that Sergeant Kell is far from trash. He's not A or even hardly B, but having additional order on Creed (making it 4 and 5 with a strategem) is very powerfull. Also he is good to cover Creed against snipers.
