Starfield vs Fallout 4 - Details and Physics Comparison

- The best comparison between the two games Starfield (2023) and Fallout 4 (2015), I will compare the most important similarities, physics, details, textures and special places in the game. The entire video was created by myself (GameLight).
The idea of creating Starfield appeared in the 90s, from Todd Howard, and officially the game began to be developed in 2015, and we saw the game on September 1 for the premium edition and September 6 for the standard edition. In Starfield, the game is an RPG set in space where we have to find answers to the riddles of artifacts, build a base, build spaceships, fight bounty hunters, etc.

This makes me almost curious about Starfield vs Fallout 3.
clearly starfield has Less of everything. shame
Starfield having absolutely no animation from when you jump from height into water was honestly ridiculous to see...
I suspect that Bethesda didn’t add that because water isn’t as present in fallout 4, which takes place on the coast. I admittedly haven’t played star field so take this with a grain of salt.
Not trying to justify it in any way, frankly the fact this happened at all is ridiculous, but it at least explains why it happened
Actually it’s like that because you can’t go underwater. It wouldn’t make sense for your character to go under from the fall but not able to on his/her own so they cut it completely that was if you’re in 1st person you don’t see that
Its for stealth reasons
I used a power on Neon and on one of the disciples and they floated off the map and fell into the water, so I had to jump down there to kill ‘em but that’s when I noticed the water issue 🥲
I'm pretty sure you single handedly caused the "most replayed" section on this video.
Fallout 4 looks better in a lot of ways surprisingly
Yeah, maybe the helmet is the cause of the haziness in Starfield, but it seems that even without a helmet, Fallout 4 looks better in many aspects.
And will likely run better

Something must have hapenned because on the trailers you could even see gore in what looked like an Argos extractors accident with the cutter, Also when they show one of the shotguns there was gore, i don't know why they didn't ask Todd this the other day
to me, gore in fallout is an artistic choice, unlike in skyrim and starfield, fallout is pretty much set in a lawless, brutal world, its either you or him, killing and murdering, canabalism, anything that is evil have no consequences. Thus having gore is a good choice and common.
meanwhile Skyrim, Starfield, they are not a lawless world, You have civillization, different culture, you are just exploring rather than trying to survive. So not having gore does kinda make sense.
but im certain after a while, you will get shit ton of mods, gore mod, complete planet that is fallout, hell maybe even nirn will be modded in
Surprisingly fallout 4 on max settings still look pretty good in today's era of graphics
Nah it doesnt look good in comparison to other modern games. Starfield is barely an improvement over F4 thats why

@@geraldwiedemann2126 it's embarrassing to even look at the water, let alone to shoot at or swim through it. Not that I think water looks particularly good in any Bethesda game, but in this game it seems like a direct downgrade from fo4 (and even Skyrim had better splashing imo).
It's about attention to detail and having an interactive environment, not whether the player spends hours doing it.... Like I don't spend hours shooting at walls either, but I still like to see a bullet hole appear when I do shoot a wall. It's fine if your standards don't require that attention to detail to enjoy the game; but that lack of detail stacks up to be an unimpressive release. It's attention to detail that creates immersive world spaces, and this game is missing a lot of attention to detail that prior BGS games had.

@@geraldwiedemann2126That's not the point. Man, you gamers are idiots smh
Apparently Todd's priority was the physics of potatoes and sandwiches in large piles! What blows my mind is that they could make a great game on the old engines, and people would play and love them! Everything has to be MORE BIGGER FASTER! The top priority seems to be getting people to buy new hardware, apparently Bethesda has a stake in that...
But they did make a great game on the "old" engine and all people do is shit on it for being "bugthesda" and say that they should just use UE5 instesd
Issue is more with the designers rather than the engine imo. (look at new Vegas or mods)

Fallout 4 is a very small game. Starfield is Like 1000X bigger than every Games From Bethesda combined. Of course they needed other priorities
Starfield has interiors and object detail looking next gen but then you land on a planet and its shiny dirt
I find planets to be inconsistent. I once visited a moon that ACTUALLY looked like photo realistic with the distant sun and long shadows. I was in awh. But then I went showy planet and looks like special edition skyrim lol. This happens all over the game, some planets and environments look breathtaking and some look like Skyrim or Fallout or even worse. bethesda is a s💩t company that's put out nothing but s💩t pretty much since they started. Fallout 3's only real wins were successfully adapting Fallout 1 and 2 into a 3D environment (quite impressive, actually), with the addition of 2-3 good quests. Aside from that it's so completely unoriginal they even brought back a wiped out faction from 2.
Bethesda... well, they would have ruined New Vegas if Obsidian wasn't so brilliant. They gave the developer 18 months to complete it. They breathed down their necks the whole time. And they refused a promised bonus because the Metacritic score wasn't high enough.
Bethesda ruined the og developer of Prey before they could finish Prey 2. And then they failed the 2017 game with bad marketing and not explaining why it wasn't a sequel. All while blaming Arkane, of course.
Skyrim and Fallout 4, while enjoyable, have both been hit with such terrible bugs the act of trying to fix them made them worse. AND added MORE bugs.
Fallout 76. The garbage fire. And not just a game, but Bethesd'a multiple failures trying to put it out.
Bethesda pushed Arkane to make a terrible live service game called Redfall. Because Toddy's greedy and wanted a slice of the pie that stopped being popular years ago.
Every single game they put out is so buggy it's perplexing to think Todd has any sense of pride.
And, if it weren't for mods bethesda would have pretty much nothing.
TL;DR: I was suggesting you don't see the blatant and obvious warning signs. Unless you're hard of seeing, in which case I will happily use a different analogy.
I’m worried about elder scrolls 6 now :/
I think Starfield development started ages ago, even before Fallout 4, that may explain why it's so shitty, and worse than Fallout 4. Elders Scrolls 6 on the other hand, would be newer.
I wouldn't expect a huge improvement anyway, considering they are using the same engine.
Most sensible people were worried about Fallout 4 before it came out. You are VERY late to the party
Elder scrolls 6 is going to be dumpster fire by the looks of how starfield is. The creative engine 2.0 is massively outdated and unoptimized.
I was concerned with the Elder Scrolls series after seeing how Skyrim turned out. Graphically, each one has improved. But each title that comes out loses more and more of the soul of the series.
If you want to play a good RPG wait for Gothic remake, it will be ready in late 2024. It would much better then tes 6
It blows my mind how Starfield is not only missing features you would expect like AI reactivity to being aimed at and gunfire, but features that they have implemented in multiple of their own games from years ago… this bothers me more than anything else in this game
Yeah. I've been noticing a trend of reduced environmental interactivity in games for years now. It's not just Bethesda, it's most of the industry, but particularly in the AAA space.
In Fallout 3 (and by extension New Vegas) NPC's react to having a gun pointed at them or one being fired near them. Even in Skyrim NPCs will react to you having a weapon drawn or spell ready, and guards will confront you verbally if you cast spells in a town. So like you say, we know they _can_ do this stuff. They're just cutting corners.
I played bethesda games back to back before starfield releases and starfield made me realize how amazing the open world exploration was in fallout 4, from the incredible environments to the amazing sense of discovery the open world of fallout 4 was one of bethesda's best, Starfields open world is by far their weakest imo and it really feels pointless outside of questing, the 1000 planets is definitely the wrong call and it harmed the game in the long run.
but it didnt. walking in open worlds is so fun but its because its a land area not a whole planet or solar system.😂 I bet it would be boring to travel for hours.

I think bethesda add those 1000 worlds in because their trying to set this game up to be the next minecraft. The thing is that only works if your game engine isn't janky.
My god, they took a giant leap BACKWARDS!
Water in Starfield was certainly an afterthought. they just put a no to interacting with it past surface swimming.
The water come from Oblivion
If you're a game developer, you gotta understand how important it is to have realistic water and fix any visual bugs. Even though they don't affect the gameplay directly, most gamers really care about those details. It's all about creating a better overall experience, you know?
Nah, that tells me that most gamers are just too focused on graphics. The gameplay is the important factor, not some water details that you'll only look at once for a few seconds and then go back to doing side quests or whatever.
It's appreciated, but not a damn necessity. When something like Starfield is an insanely massive game, some things (like water details) are expected to be less prioritized cuz they hardly matter which brings a massive issue in this industry. Game devs prioritize graphics & details over gameplay so they can generate more sales.
Bullshit. The only important thing is the content people are playing your game for. Starfield has that content, if you’re complaining that the water doesn’t splash in the way you want it to then why the fuck did you buy the game? To play it or to do random shit like this for no reason? The detail went into the lore, the stories and the settlements, the important places, why bother wasting development efforts on things that people will barely see. The funny thing is Fallout 4 barely had enough content compared to other BGS games, because they changed their focus, Starfield has way more stuff to do, way more interesting side quests, but no you’d have preferred them to take focus from there and instead make the water splash more….. Absolutely ridiculous…
@@VolaticWolf LOL, starfield's cost 700m dollars, and they haven't make a realistic water. AAAAAND
@@sarychevmaxim907 the cost of how much a game takes to develop doesn't mean it will have the most realistic water.
Sometimes graphics aren't the most important thing in the games industry? Not all developers perhaps are focused on making the best graphics? Have a think about that
@@zKingsKiller Well that's how you feel and not how I feel. Personally, I buy the game for the gameplay. I personally don't think that water quality ruins my experience. Sure a better water quality would be appreciated, but I'm also fine without it. Stunning and next generation graphics are not just simply important to me. Used to be, but not anymore
I remember how i had so many complaints for Fallout 4 when it first came out. Still, i won’t change my opinion as i believe it really leaves many things to be desired but Starfield made me appreciate everything I missed about good BGS style adventure experience. And the game ran well with my then old and reliable GTX 750ti with graphics settings tweaked to high whereas Starfield never seems to stop tormenting my poor RTX2070super for eternity.

How studios take more time to make games and make it feel like a poor version of another game is incredible, a lot of FXs missing and physics, feel so lifeless even on a planet with "unreactable" ppl.
Not only took longer but cost more. Fallout 4 cost 150 million to make and was developed in 7 years.
I guess they try to improve graphics at the cost of reducing existing features (performance issues), I don't understand why most gamers seem to prefer better graphics and lighting over a fun and rich gameplay...
However lately games dont even have top notch graphics or polished gameplay features.
@@lmeza1983 I agree and I believe this is partially the fault of their engine as well. Fun and rich is subjective but Bethesda games in true nature do not allow you to shoulder swap for whatever reason or provide a FOV slider. Basic functions that a massive company like Bethesda shouldn't struggle with, yet do somehow. This is objectively bad and lazy especially for a major company like Bethesda.
Plenty of games were released this year (2023) that provide A1 graphics and optimization to their already addictive gameplay and are no where near the size of Bethesda studios.
Gunfire games (Remnant II)
Larian Studios (Baldurs Gate 3)
Mundfish (Atomic Heart).

AAA studios need to stop getting slack for the slop they are throwing out when the under dogs are out here not only outperforming but undercharging. A trend we should be supporting instead of this copy + paste method from bigger studios or worse, "early access".

I only came to conclusion that the game engine is not the main problem but the dedication of game developers that are making the games.
Just take for example Rockstar's RAGE engine, first time it was used to make a table tenis game, and now when you play Red Dead Redemption 2 and see how far did they went with it, it's really impressive.
Or CAPCOM's RE:Engine that was 1st time used on making Resident Evil 7(which was a linear game) and slowly being improved to the point that now it hundles open world games like Monster Hunter - Rise and Dragons Dogma 2.
Titanfall 2 was made on Source Engine 1.
Back in 15 years ago people were laughing at Unity, and now the majority of best ever looking mobile games were made on Unity (sure their recent policy is shit, tough 😅), but I think you got my point.
Yep, it's (not) just the engine, look what modders did with Skyrim, mods transformed into totally different game. Bethesda is just lazy.
Even in Skyrim and Oblivion NPCs had daily routines (something that even Gothic2 had, not to mention games like KCD): go to work ->go eat -> go sleep etc etc while in Starfield most named NPCs just stand in one place 24/7 with 1 or 2 idler animation (sweeping the floor with a 'space' broom). It's not stagnation, it's regression.
Dedication? Yeah, the devs of RDR2/GTA Vlost lots of sleep and the crunch impacted their personal lives immensely. Rockstar also had like 1500 people working on their new games too. Bethesda is substantially smaller, and you almost never hear about their working conditions being poor.
The engine situation is definitely the problem, but if you switch to unreal, the performance likely takes a massive hit. Bethesda's engines are incredibly unique in how they handle their worlds.

I'm saddened to see how games have evolved over time. In the past, games like Half-Life captivated players, not just with fancy graphics, but with their meticulous attention to detail. Nowadays, it seems that everything is solely designed to turn a profit, lacking the passion and dedication we once witnessed in the gaming industry. It's disheartening to witness this shift away from what made gaming so special.

So basically we probably have about 20 updates to go before the real Starfield game comes out. I seem to recall that collisions and water physics were pretty borked when FO4 first came out too.

Can you make a comparison between Fallout 4 on his first month vs Starfield? I'm curious about how many bugs F4 had and how many QOL improvements were missing compared to Starfield
Not to mention the fallout 4s game is modded so this is not a fair comparison at all.
Its like modern games are becoming downgrades with 30 x the GB install & 50 x the waiting on development of the game lol
Honestly starfield intrigues me for a bgs game so by the time I buy it it will probably have some of the issues fixed if enough people complain about it
The farther the games go, the more primitive they become, the rag doll is not made badly, but the blood from the wounds from the shots, the traces from the bullets, were not done properly, in general they cut it off and simplified it. It’s unclear who was afraid of dismemberment. bad guys
So fallout 4 a 2015 game is better then starfield 2023 game graphics and technic wise

Maybe I’ve taken Fallout 4 for granted.
I won’t know until I get my hands on Starfield though. Which’ll be tomorrow on Game Pass.
yeah I spent the last month modding fallout 4 and then playing a bit in anticipation of Starfield but I was so disappointed that I'm already back in the Commonwealth lol
There's no taking Fallout 4 for granted, and I don't mean that positively
i already cancelled my gamepass after trying starfield. Game is a total joke and unoptimized....oh well at least cp77 expansion is coming in a few weeks.
Starfield has actual RPG mechanics. Fallout 4 does not.
Swims in fallout 4. Gets free rads
they could have just made each planet in starfeild a kinda small fallout DLC type thing, more things to do, far nore immersion than just cuts to different places, and it would fix the flow completely as the travel would only be for getting to another large interactive place, not just empty worlds with one thing to find for one NPC,
Todd Howard certainly didn't even play the game not even once
Probably not but morons are going to keep buying this trash
I'm starting to think he doesn't play games. He's just the talking head.
It just works.
The one really immersion breaking thing in starfeild is the fact that nothing breaks or gets damaged when you shoot it. Took them 7 years to make this game and they couldnt make it so incindiary grenades set trees, bushes, tall grass, and other brush on fire. I mean those mechanics are in far cry 3 which came out in 2012. Dnt get me wrong starfeild amazing it just urkes me something so little and simple as that isnt in the game when it makes such a huge difference. Its not hard to do and would greatly improve immersion. They add all these feutures but havent even implimented some basic ones. I also find it kinda obsurd theres no ground vehicles or at least that you cant drive any. Basic driving mechanics would not have been difficult to add. Could be one of the easiest mods to make. They couldve had lunar rovers or their own NASA Punk rovers at outposts and locations on planets you land on. It wouldve fit in perfectly with their theme. Really felt like thats missing. And like such an obvious thing to add which makes it really rediculous that they arent in the game. The only reason im this passionate and get this irritated is because i love the game so dnt misunderstand me. Its frustating when they make something so good but could be drastically better with just acouple slight additons. It really baffles me how this stuff didnt go thru the whole teams heads all these years theyve been making it.
But Starfield ISN'T amazing. At all.
@elektrosmokes1911 I'd love to hear your critiques, I'm not being sarcastic either I'm serious. I'd rate the game probably about an 8/10. Which is good, but comparatively to skyrim or fallout 3 is a huge drop. I definelty wouldn't say fhe game isn't worth playing though, would you?
@@justinbutler591 There's no depth here, Justin. I'm 50 hours in, and the only thing keeping me going is the fact that I'm starved for the good old Bethesda RPG gameplay loop. Does this world really seem alive to you? With mindless, UGLY "citizens" stumbling all over the place with wild eyes? With places of interest being direct copies of one another? A LOW level of environmental interactivity doesn't help. You described a dead world well with your comment, yet you go on to rate the game 8 out of 10? Just what are you seeing to justify an 8 out of 10? I'm not seeing anything close to that, In fact, I would almost guarantee that this universe doesn't have legs, even with mods. Wait. There's one group who has been OUTSPOKEN with their support for this game... Are you an unapologetically woke gen-z by chance?
@elektrosmokes1911 haha I'm sure if I was I'd have game the game a higher score. In comparison to bethesdas other games an 8 from me isn't that good. I'd give skyrim a 9.6 and fallout 3 a 9.3. But then if we look at obsidians fallout nv that's a 9.9 to me. Idk I haven't touched alot of what's in the game yet so I can't really definitively say how good I think it is. But based off my experience so far I'd say 8 just cuz its entertaining enough. I wouldnt play anything less than a 7/10. I do have quite alot of critiques. Idk a whole point of my current rating is basically just because my brother told me he's been having such a blast with the crimson fleet campaign and he's usually not wrong about things. I do agree with the npc faces tho, I'd prefer the faces from fallout 4 or even their earlier titles. But ive heard some people like it, or it grows on em. It's definitely not a spiritual successor to their previous works but I think needs to be looked at as something new. But I really have to do all the main content before forming a full conclusion on the game.
No way starfield was in full development for 7 even 5 years. I'd say more like three. I think there was a lot of difficulties mid development that we will hear about in time.
People: *making mods for Starfield*
Todd Howard:We are releasing a Special Edition!
And people call us sheep for pointing out the problems in Starfield lol
25 years in the making my @ss. Starfield has been the game where I understand the "Tell me sweet little lies meme." There are so many games from last gen that seem more impressive than Starfield. Oddly enough, it seems to require much more power for so little yields and seems stuck in the past in both engine and game design. They actually regressed in some ways.
They haven't been actually developing it for 25 years. They just wanted to make it for that long. It's a marketing thing
@@hoodironyyy I mostly figured.
people actually thought this was gonna be GOTY 🤣
Its a nice game but everyones knows totk is the goty
@@mfegs_nope Baldur Gate 3 is
@@Bedbug451 bro baldurs gateisnt better thant totk (probably is but i dont like classic medieval fantasy)
@@mfegs_ classic medieval fantasy and post apocalypse are clearly the best game genres, no counterargument
Fallout 4 did beat Witcher 3 at DICE and BAFTA game of the year, Starfield can win some this year since it's not like there is only one GOTY award.
what's the music on 5:50?
Can’t believe they don’t react to gun fire 😂
I love starfield, but I started to want to play fallout for the fourth time.
This 😂
Cool, I am jumping to fallout 4 after completing starfield main campaign, Never played any fallout until now
I couldn't care less if a game looks "next gen" but i will say fallout 4 looks alot better. But i really love starfields artstyle, its grounded in realism, that many space games miss out on.
Have you played starfields main questline…
@@j.davila4523 art style, not story.
@@j.davila4523read the comment slowly, try to understand the words
The similarities are uncanny. It's as if the same engine and developer were used to make both games
Sarcasm?
Then why are all the water physics so much worse in the 2023 game compared to the 2015 title?
Starfeild on console looks basically like a slightly improved graphics fallout 4 on console with nice ray tracing and more detail. They don't look much different
Neither game has ray tracing
@@The_MEMEphisStarfield uses real time global illumination which is a form of ray tracing. Do your research before saying dumb shit
I knew it! I love Fallout 4 but something about Starfield just doesn't feel right!
Nice video
Starfield had constant 10 years of development... just let that sink in.
Starfield; 7+ years in the making and my modded Fallout 4 game looks better. Bethesda this is a disgrace.
