Fandom can be so funny. Me and my brothers were Steelers fans growing up on Long Island in the 70's (yeah NY) and we all despised the Raiders! I think we all hated Madden the most (the 70's version of Rex Ryan in retrospect, or so it seemed), but Stabler and Biletnikoff (do you remember him smoking on the sidelines?) and Tatum were the guys on the field to be feared, and despised. My brother until he passed still hated them, even though he had become a Jets fan long before. We're all Americans, and love our country, but with a passion we'll hate teams and their fans and kick each other's asses. Fandom is definitely funny.

I became a Steelers fan in 1975 at 5 yrs old, because I like there color. In 82'' at a parade in AZ, Roger Staubach was the grand Marshall he was riding a horse. 49:54 Im wearing a t-shirt with #12 on it, not a steelers shirt. He comes my way when he get to me, he bends down as I pet the horse on the nose and he says "Hey son, who is you favorite quarterback!" And I responded " TERRY BRADSHAW!" My father RIP, throw his head back and laughs with those around us. Roger Staubach trot off shaking his head laughing...haha! True story.

From about 9years old to 16 everything on my xmas list was Steeler pennants,pajamas,hats,jackets,shirts,trash cans,helmets,posters etc. Every monday i would clip the boxscores from newspapers. I still have a full photo album with just about every steeler football card from bout 79-86. I kept some stuff but man i wish i would have saved all that stuff. Steelers got me through some very dark times as i knew no matter what i could watch them on Sundays🙂
Pittsburgh had a black newspaper with a sports department. One of the reporters scouted college players and recommended players the Steelers should look at. He was so good at identifying talent the Steelers hired him as a scout.

I think the 76 defense was better than the 75 defense. In 76 they had 5 shutouts and gave up only 3 points in 2 other games. That is a total of 6 points allowed in 7 games which was half the season. That is unreal.

The 76 Steeler Defense had amazing statistics, so it is remembered as the best because of the incredible performance, especially after all the injuries at the beginning. But the 74 Defense was before Joe Greene got injured, and noone in the league could block him, (or Ernie Holmes)... The Raiders got 27 yds. rushing, the Vikings 17... Half of those offensive linemen are in the Hall of Fame... That domination speaks for itself. 74 was before the injuries, and the Defense crushed the best of the best.
I live in Cleveland and have been a Steelers fan for over 50 yrs. It started when my boyhood friend, who moved here from New Castle PA, asked me who my favorite NFL Team was. Back then, I was too young to really know anything about football so I said, I don't know, who's yours? He said the Steelers! I said, who are they, where do they play? He said, Pittsburgh and showed me a picture of Joe Greene and Jack Lambert. They had black helmets and jerseys and I said, OK, youre my friend so that's my favorite team too! The rest is history so to speak. I witnessed all 4 SB championships in the 70's and as I got older I understood more about the team, its ownership and values the Rooney's have and live by. I have been blessed to be a fan of the Steelers for most of my life and there is no Team in any sport that I care about more than them. So many great players, memories... I am forever thankful for that boyhood conversation.
As a lifelong (57 years) fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Steelers was my most hated rival because of the two Super Bowls in the 70s we lost, my hatred has turned to respect! What a great matchup of two great defenses with the best nicknames the Steel Curtain vs Doomsday cmon, doesn't get better than that and both lived up to those monikers. It was simply two of the best Super Bowl games in history... hard-hitting and big plays and two teams who played their guts out. This was enjoyable to watch but still the old hurt from losing those games stings, but hey, if you had to lose then to lose to another all-time great squad...well, that is what it's all about. We managed to get one back in the 90's but we still owe you guys one and I hope before I leave this world we can get one more Steeler vs Cowboy Super Bowl. Lot of Hall of Famers in those two matchups and I have nothing but respect for those Steeler squads. Peace.

Always plays that change the game, sometimes the pressure of the moment will make players make bad decisions, QB and WR have a different route in mind or a WR breaks off a route early etc. and it's a pick 6. Either way, I take nothing from those old Steeler teams as they were an all-time great team and I think the 70s was the greatest era ever in the NFL. When you go back and watch the greatest hits from the 70's you realize just how much more physical the game was back then. The players may be bigger, but they damn sure aren't tougher and they don't play with the same fire that they played with back then. The 70's made the NFL. Steelers, Cowboys, Dolphins, Raiders Vikings, Rams...some great teams some of them would have been dynasties had it not been for a couple of the teams that dominated.
If anything stands out about this franchise that commands the ultimate in respect is the fact that at 55 years old, this team has had only THREE head coaches in my entire lifetime. Growing up as and still being a New York Jets fan, you recognize the value of taking the time to select the right head football coach for your organization, and sticking with them. The stability of that instills and refines the mission and vision. That alone is priceless. I’m sure I’m not the only fan from other teams that recognize this. The childish envy you have as a younger fan toward winning teams gradually gives way to a profound respect and admiration that perhaps only fans from historically poorly run franchises, can understand and appreciate.

I grew up in Pittsburgh during the 60’s/70’s and the city was electric during these years. We all felt a certain pride. Chuck Noll and the Steelers put our city on the map.
No doubt! From 53:10 commentary starting with John Banaszak on - the commentary says it all. Hands down no contest the greatest front four ever. Probably best linebackers combo ever in Ham, Russell, and Lambert, and an all stud defensive backfield. Basically no weaknesses anywhere. Other than maybe 1984-85 Bears and 2000 Ravens, no one matches up against the Steel Curtain.
What really gets under my skin is seeing people compare that 70s Steelers defensive group to the 85 Bears, 2000 Ravens and the 2002 Bucs defenses. What they forget is that the aforementioned defenses were single season defenses whilst the 70 Steelers defensive group won FOUR Super Bowls in SIX seasons and produced FIVE Hall Of Famers (6 if you want to add Tony Dungy). This is arguably the greatest defence of all time and it is not even close and up for debate!

Looking back at the older broadcasts of the 70's, the pre-game and post-game shows, and the in-game shows were 100% better than nowadays. Back then your screen wasn't crammed full of💩💩crap💩💩! Plus back then the announcers actually knew what they were talking about. Monday Night Football was so much better than now. There may have been fewer games in the 70's but the sport was covered a LOT BETTER!

Chuck Noll, Tom Landry, Don Shula and Vince Lombardi were assistants under legendary owner/coach Paul Brown. The super bowl trophy should be named after Psul Brown imho. His former assistants won,participated in all of the first 12 super bowls.

Totally agree, Greenwood and Russell should be in the HOF. Wagner should also be in the HOF. I can remember him picking off passes all the time and especially at times it was really needed. I remember back in 74, 75 & 76, pretty much the whole defensive starters for the AFC pro bowl wore black helmets. The AFC wore red and white and the NFC wore blue and white uniforms but everybody wore their teams helmets. Greene, Greenwood, Russell, Lambert, Ham, Blount and Wagner were the starters and Edwards, White and Holmes were backups. Those were the days to be a Steeler fan.

As a little kid growing up during the 70's I was not a fan of the Steelers or the Raiders. I still don't like the Raiders to this day. It was more of a friendly rivalry with my best buddy who I was growing up with. See he liked the Steelers, and I, oh I can't believe that I'm admitting this, I actually liked the Vikings. Being a Lifelong native of Wisconsin, saying that is not a popular topic....lol. However as a kid, I was only 7 or 8, I was a huge Fran Tarkenton, Chuck Foreman, Sammy White, and Ahmad Rashad fan. I was a Fran fan? A fan of Fran? Fran's fan? Sorry. Once I got older and I started to learn and see what the Steelers team had accomplished and had been able to achieve, I had some time to rethink my position. Plus by then I had lost my ability to cheer for the Vikings...lol. I may be a Packers fan, but I am also a Football fan. I love the game, whether it's the NFL, NCAA, WFL, the CFL, or even the old defunct USFL, I love to watch football, and as a fan of the sport you have to respect a franchise like the Steelers, and yes even the Raiders, as well as the Vikings and even the Bears. They've all have been great at some point, and they've all had some incredibly talented, iconic and legendary players. The Steelers definitely have that covered. From Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, LC Greenwood and that entire Steel Curtain, they were a force to be reckoned with! There are a lot more players who I didn't mention. That entire team was phenomenal! Fast, agile, powerful, intelligent, innovative, brutal, and again incredibly talented, the Steelers had it all. Their rivalry with the ⭐🤠Dallas⭐Cowboys🤠⭐ were some of the most iconic, amazing, and legendary games ever seen. Plus the Steelers vs. Browns, Bengals, and Raiders? All were hard nosed and tough games. If your a football fan you have to respect the legacy of the Steelers franchise!

It cracks me up how everyone who comments has a Steelers helmet by their name. 100% of the time John Madden will have a Raiders helmet next to his name, not a Steelers one. My point is there were several different teams who won all those Superbowls for New England and San Francisco but mostly just one team that won Pittsburgh's first 4. Both the offense and defense were pretty much the same for all 4 championships. Only the Dallas Cowboy franchise can come close to saying that with 3. But that wasn't mostly the same team either. The first two was but there were several changes with they won the 3rd one. 10 Hall of Famers were on that team at the same time. Greenwood, Russell and Wagner all should be in it too. The Steelers could have easily won in 95 if O'Donnell didn't throw where there wasn't anybody but a Dallas DB and if Pittsburgh would have run the ball in the second half more. They started to run all over Dallas in the second half. So there has been a lot of Superbowls that could have gone one way or another with "what if's." It is played by the two best teams of that year and most are not dominated by one team or another. The important thing is who has the most points when the whistle blows. 4 times in 6 years back in the 70's, it was the Pittsburgh Steelers. We moved from Pittsburgh to Florida when I was 10 in "74 and had to watch 4 SB wins from there. Most in south Florida hated my Steelers but we always came through. It was especially great for me in '79 when the Pirates and Steelers were both champions.

I live in Cleveland and have been a Steelers fan for over 50 yrs. It started when my boyhood friend, who moved here from New Castle PA, asked me who my favorite NFL Team was. Back then, I was too young to really know anything about football so I said, I don't know, who's yours? He said the Steelers! I said, who are they, where do they play? He said, Pittsburgh and showed me a picture of Joe Greene and Jack Lambert. They had black helmets and jerseys and I said, OK, youre my friend so that's my favorite team too!
The rest is history so to speak. I witnessed all 4 SB championships in the 70's and as I got older I understood more about the team, its ownership and values the Rooney's have and live by. I have been blessed to be a fan of the Steelers for most of my life and there is no Team in any sport that I care about more than them. So many great players, memories... I am forever thankful for that boyhood conversation.
As a lifelong (57 years) fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Steelers was my most hated rival because of the two Super Bowls in the 70s we lost, my hatred has turned to respect! What a great matchup of two great defenses with the best nicknames the Steel Curtain vs Doomsday cmon, doesn't get better than that and both lived up to those monikers.
It was simply two of the best Super Bowl games in history... hard-hitting and big plays and two teams who played their guts out. This was enjoyable to watch but still the old hurt from losing those games stings, but hey, if you had to lose then to lose to another all-time great squad...well, that is what it's all about.
We managed to get one back in the 90's but we still owe you guys one and I hope before I leave this world we can get one more Steeler vs Cowboy Super Bowl. Lot of Hall of Famers in those two matchups and I have nothing but respect for those Steeler squads. Peace.
Here's hoping that Jerry will stop messing in team affairs! If only Jerry could mimic the Rooney's, Dallas would be so much better!

Always plays that change the game, sometimes the pressure of the moment will make players make bad decisions, QB and WR have a different route in mind or a WR breaks off a route early etc. and it's a pick 6.
Either way, I take nothing from those old Steeler teams as they were an all-time great team and I think the 70s was the greatest era ever in the NFL. When you go back and watch the greatest hits from the 70's you realize just how much more physical the game was back then.

The 70's made the NFL. Steelers, Cowboys, Dolphins, Raiders Vikings, Rams...some great teams some of them would have been dynasties had it not been for a couple of the teams that dominated.

If anything stands out about this franchise that commands the ultimate in respect is the fact that at 55 years old, this team has had only THREE head coaches in my entire lifetime. Growing up as and still being a New York Jets fan, you recognize the value of taking the time to select the right head football coach for your organization, and sticking with them. The stability of that instills and refines the mission and vision. That alone is priceless. I’m sure I’m not the only fan from other teams that recognize this. The childish envy you have as a younger fan toward winning teams gradually gives way to a profound respect and admiration that perhaps only fans from historically poorly run franchises, can understand and appreciate.

I grew up in Pittsburgh during the 60’s/70’s and the city was electric during these years. We all felt a certain pride. Chuck Noll and the Steelers put our city on the map.

No doubt! From 53:10 commentary starting with John Banaszak on - the commentary says it all. Hands down no contest the greatest front four ever. Probably best linebackers combo ever in Ham, Russell, and Lambert, and an all stud defensive backfield. Basically no weaknesses anywhere. Other than maybe 1984-85 Bears and 2000 Ravens, no one matches up against the Steel Curtain.

What really gets under my skin is seeing people compare that 70s Steelers defensive group to the 85 Bears, 2000 Ravens and the 2002 Bucs defenses. What they forget is that the aforementioned defenses were single season defenses whilst the 70 Steelers defensive group won FOUR Super Bowls in SIX seasons and produced FIVE Hall Of Famers (6 if you want to add Tony Dungy).
This is arguably the greatest defence of all time and it is not even close and up for debate!

Looking back at the older broadcasts of the 70's, the pre-game and post-game shows, and the in-game shows were 100% better than nowadays. Back then your screen wasn't crammed full of💩💩crap💩💩! Plus back then the announcers actually knew what they were talking about. Monday Night Football was so much better than now. There may have been fewer games in the 70's but the sport was covered a LOT BETTER!

Totally agree, Greenwood and Russell should be in the HOF. Wagner should also be in the HOF. I can remember him picking off passes all the time and especially at times it was really needed. I remember back in 74, 75 & 76, pretty much the whole defensive starters for the AFC pro bowl wore black helmets. The AFC wore red and white and the NFC wore blue and white uniforms but everybody wore their teams helmets. Greene, Greenwood, Russell, Lambert, Ham, Blount and Wagner were the starters and Edwards, White and Holmes were backups. Those were the days to be a Steeler fan.

As a little kid growing up during the 70's I was not a fan of the Steelers or the Raiders. I still don't like the Raiders to this day. It was more of a friendly rivalry with my best buddy who I was growing up with. See he liked the Steelers, and I, oh I can't believe that I'm admitting this, I actually liked the Vikings. Being a Lifelong native of Wisconsin, saying that is not a popular topic....lol. However as a kid, I was only 7 or 8, I was a huge Fran Tarkenton, Chuck Foreman, Sammy White, and Ahmad Rashad fan. I was a Fran fan? A fan of Fran? Fran's fan? Sorry. Once I got older and I started to learn and see what the Steelers team had accomplished and had been able to achieve, I had some time to rethink my position. Plus by then I had lost my ability to cheer for the Vikings...lol. I may be a Packers fan, but I am also a Football fan. I love the game, whether it's the NFL, NCAA, WFL, the CFL, or even the old defunct USFL, I love to watch football, and as a fan of the sport you have to respect a franchise like the Steelers, and yes even the Raiders, as well as the Vikings and even the Bears. They've all have been great at some point, and they've all had some incredibly talented, iconic and legendary players. The Steelers definitely have that covered. From Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, LC Greenwood and that entire Steel Curtain, they were a force to be reckoned with! There are a lot more players who I didn't mention. That entire team was phenomenal! Fast, agile, powerful, intelligent, innovative, brutal, and again incredibly talented, the Steelers had it all. Their rivalry with the ⭐🤠Dallas⭐Cowboys🤠⭐ were some of the most iconic, amazing, and legendary games ever seen. Plus the Steelers vs. Browns, Bengals, and Raiders? All were hard nosed and tough games. If your a football fan you have to respect the legacy of the Steelers franchise!

It cracks me up how everyone who comments has a Steelers helmet by their name. 100% of the time John Madden will have a Raiders helmet next to his name, not a Steelers one. My point is there were several different teams who won all those Superbowls for New England and San Francisco but mostly just one team that won Pittsburgh's first 4. Both the offense and defense were pretty much the same for all 4 championships. Only the Dallas Cowboy franchise can come close to saying that with 3. But that wasn't mostly the same team either. The first two was but there were several changes with they won the 3rd one. 10 Hall of Famers were on that team at the same time. Greenwood, Russell and Wagner all should be in it too. The Steelers could have easily won in 95 if O'Donnell didn't throw where there wasn't anybody but a Dallas DB and if Pittsburgh would have run the ball in the second half more. They started to run all over Dallas in the second half. So there has been a lot of Superbowls that could have gone one way or another with "what if's." It is played by the two best teams of that year and most are not dominated by one team or another. The important thing is who has the most points when the whistle blows. 4 times in 6 years back in the 70's, it was the Pittsburgh Steelers. We moved from Pittsburgh to Florida when I was 10 in "74 and had to watch 4 SB wins from there. Most in south Florida hated my Steelers but we always came through. It was especially great for me in '79 when the Pirates and Steelers were both champions.
