Antonio should start. If you want Paqueta as the 8, you need to play a genuine CF. The other option is to play Souceck or Rodrigiez next to Alvarez. Souceck is going to slow us down in possession and Rodriguez makes up for his lack of pace by playing too deep.
People don't do the arithmetic when saying these things. Unless you want Bowen to play up front, Kudus right and Summerville left with Paqueta as the 10 and Alvarez and Rod as 2 sixes, and to me, that just the same as Moyes ball. 2 DMs Infront of the back four. Neither of them are going to carry the ball forward like Rice did either, so ultimately, your just asking for a less expansive, less dynamic version of Moyes ball. This fan base don't have a clue anyway. Some of the tosh posted this week has been an absolute joke. I've seen 'suggestions of ..Drop Alvarez, Drop Paqueta, Drop Emerson, Drop Kudus. Were playing shit and people think the answer is to drop our best players. Its laughable. Actually makes me feel we were too critical of Moyes. Lop hasn't shown he's a better coach than Moyes. He has a better group and has us playing worse. People may not like to hear it but it's a fact.

Take Scamacca for example, our fans were having wet dreams over him because he had a fancy name and cool tats, I could tell within 15 minutes of seeing him play he wouldnt make it. Take Ings for example; "He's gonna come in and get us those 15 goals a season we need", I knew he was too small and too slow. This Chelsea game is huge for Lopetegui. He's got the opportunity to pick a real attacking side and play to win from the start. If he goes safe (gutless), then he's not the manager for us in my view. Attack and lose all day long rather than defend and lose.

Distraught is the word, it was a very disheartening team selection and the first half display justified our shock but one thing that was different from our previous manager was he changed it at half time, Moyes would never ever make subs at half time, sometimes it was the 80th minute when he brought on subs, at least when it's going wrong JL reacts positively, I believe the manager will eventually get it right

Not only is Chelsea not a free hit .. they are the favourites.. they have a much more talented packed squad and bench than us and are further down their project than us. Have those realistic expectations and you won’t be too disappointed and if we get something you will feel great

I expect Lopetegui to be a lot more aggressive with his player selection and style of play in HOME games versus AWAY... so I'm not too concerned about what we field against Chelsea. I am concerned what we field in our away contests... but I think pulling the hook on Antionio and Soucek in one half was all that Lopetegui needed to see. I mean, its was THAT obvious. We will be more defensive tactics-wise on away games... but we can't have liabilities on the field, or games WILL get away from us. So the real test for me will be who we start on out next visit outside London Stadium.
Have you come up with a theory as to why he went with that starting lineup the other week Nick? Because I just can't work it out.. did Antonio and soucek play well internationally before the Fulham game? Perhaps that was the reason because it can't be because they have been in good form for us

By not integrating Summerville on the left and moving Kudus. Persisting with Soucek in the mid from the start. So frustrated that Antonio, who i will always give the utmost respect for his service and effort over the years, his legacy is being eroded away by utilising him from the start. Nick, Soucek & Antonio should never get a look into the starting 11 again. End of story. We've got far too many better players. My fear is Lopetegui is just a slight variation on Moyes, hence Soucek/Antonio. Agree 100%, team experimentation is over now, we're well into the season and he has to know his preferred starting 11, he simply has to if he's any good. And if its the Fulham start up - he's not the manager for us.
There is questions about Lopos tactics, he will not improve and will not last.
Morning mate. I’ve been trying to work out why Lopetegui would start Soucek (let alone the donkey that is Antonio), and I think it comes down to training. Soucek has always been the first to training and the last to leave. I think that this has blinded Lopetegui! As professional as that behaviour is, it only makes for a great groundskeeper not a great player. And no I’m not a big fan of Soucek, but I do think that he bleeds for the club and honestly I think he’s a fan of West Ham.

I don't think Lope was bought in with the remit to change the style of play and from the look of it Lope wasnt to unimpressed with Moyes approach as other than the City game we are still setting up in the same to an extent. Nick, the reason why we are experimenting its cause pre season was incredibly short and we had 9 new players in. The amount of training sessions was incredibly low.
UEFA needs to fix the schedule of a mess that they created,. Not just West Ham , i haven't yet saw a team in top 5 leagues that looks fit.
The number of games truly needs to be reduced, so players can be fresh for the games and so that Managers could actually spend time with them and coach them properly.
As much as i love to see Soucek being dropped on the bench, it wont be in while. The guy have the biggest natural fitness in our squad. And until other players don't get fitness on his level, he will continue to start.
