Sustainability = protectionism. The regulator would protect the 92 clubs in the league not the grass roots. In business, hungry well run companies will grow and replace lazy complacent companies as they go out of business. Why can’t this happen in football? If a Bury goes out of business they will be replaced by a Wrexham or a Forest Green for example.

    • @jonathanmarkham1998
      @jonathanmarkham1998 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

@@tomrado1687 You can’t compare it to the banking industry. If that had been allowed to go under everyone and I mean everyone would suffer substantially.
If a few clubs go under that’s only natural and imo not worth a blanket bailout. Also, as much as I support my team, I don’t own them.
They’re not our clubs, no matter how much we might like to tell ourselves that.
Also, the value of competition is so inherent to sports that to artificially level out clubs regardless of performance surely defeats the whole spirit of the game, if that’s what you’re concerned with.
There’s plenty of arguments how much sustainability should be enforced in football and to what extent, but we also have to realise that without any risk there is no gain.
The English football league system didn’t grow to being arguably the best in the world just by being sustainable.

If clubs are continuously dropping out of the football league, new, more sustainable clubs will replace them. Hence, Brighton, Brentford, etc. if we want this guys fairness, why don't we take Man City's state wealth and spread it to the 40,000 clubs in England.

It’s a bizarre expectation, considering there are so many other industries where it’s considered par for the course that if a business is poorly run it will go bust.
Trying to make things as equal as possible makes sense in certain areas, but not in sport. It goes directly against the value of competition, is surely the main point of sport in the first place.

The Premier League has successive champions who’ve been under investigation for 5 years and been charged on an unprecedented level, and the champions are suing the Premier league because of a tyranny of the majority - there’s civil war and finger pointing of corruption everywhere
As a sporting competition, that’s nothing to be be proud of, or get behind
    We want our football back!!

Any activist group naming itself "Fair Game" automatically is cause for suspicion. It implies that anybody not marching in lockstep with their views must not be "fair". It implies that you are 'unfair' if you disagree with anything they say. That's manipulative.
It's suggestive of a group of individuals who are insufferably smug and arrogant in their conviction that only they can be right and that everybody else must be wrong and be treated with derision and disrespect. It's indicative of an elitist attitude of 'we know best'. They're so consumed with their own sense of self-importance that they believe that it's them who gets to decide on what is 'fair'.
His true motives soon became all too predictably apparent. He spoke the language of a Marxist. That of course tallies with him being an activist from a group of elitist individuals who, by their chosen name, consider themselves to be superior to everybody else. Another bunch of socialists using manipulative words to hoodwink the public and the authorities toward listening to their demands.

Jordan is right that football clubs going bust is very rare. As Simon Kuper says in one of his books, it's rare because it's seen as very bad form for a bank to make a football club bankrupt. Lots of them have in the past have "deserved" it. and are in effect propped up by the customers of the bank. And administration is quite bad enough. It involves loads of staff and suppliers going almost unpaid- funnily enough it's considered fine for football to do this to cleaners and local building firms.

It’s about gearing ratios my friend. Yes they’re in debt but that’s because they’ve just built an asset in London that will help increase their Cashflow down the line. There’s also good debt and bad debt. If they got to borrow money at a relatively low interest rate then it’s really not that bad. Let’s not forget Spurs have a huge global fanbase so they’ll be fine. It’s the likes of poor little Reading or Burton Albion you should be concerned about. What chance do they have if things go south money wise?

You can watch your team in the Championship live on TV, but in the Premier League you get the ocassional match at annoying times and then you either have to watch teams you aren't really interested in or accept that you are being ripped off for almost nothing in return.

Also, in most of those industries you mentioned they are regulated but there isn’t an expectation that all companies across the board be protected for their own sake.
That seems to be the assumption underlying Fair Game and the types of people who believe in sustainability as if it’s something to be chased at all costs.

All very fluffy language from Niall. Typical media speak about 'equity' from the same people who push DEI. Football has its challenges, not least that clubs are becoming more global than local, which loses what makes clubs unique in the first place and pricing people out that has been part of families heritage for generations, but at the same time I wouldn't trust people like Niall or any single politician to make things better.
