sneekyklub I just bought my first truck, a 2017 2500 with the g56. I was wondering about the feel of the clutch. I know it's not a passenger car, but the clutch feels different. When I push the clutch in, I feel a slight vibration. Is that normal? Thanks.
thanks for the info! I'm torn between getting the aisin and the g56. aisin can tow double that of the g56, but I plan on tuning it and studding the engine and throwing in a South Bend dual disc clutch, if it will have close to the capabilities as the aisin I'll be a happy camper

If you want fuel economy with a diesel, get a small car with a small diesel and manual transmission. I've seen close to 70 mpg in my 2017 Cruze Diesel with 6 speed manual. Averaged 20 mpg in stock 12 Ram 2500 with G56, 4x4 and 3.73 gears.
I'd be interested in seeing a full on review of a new G56. I haven't been behind the wheel of one, yet, but I am quite interested in one for my next truck. I haven't seen too many on the local dealer lots.
I have a 2016 3500 cab and chassis g56 and haul freight everyday with it no complaints fixing to put different rear end for higher gears the 4:10s in it kill me in fuel costs
I have one with the 3:42 and a Heavy duty case for the transmission that want crack or flex the aisin can’t stand against it on no day plus I have tuned and deleted with banks pedal monster and the stealth module it’s a beast also air bags
I have the g56 on a 3rd gen 2500 5.7l Hemi and I absolutely love it. It makes towing much more enjoyable as well I like being in control of what the truck is doing. No knowledgeable input on the ratios from me but it seems fine on the gasser with 35in tires and 4.10 gears
I bought a 2018 4500 with the Aisin, could not stand it. I've driven manuals my whole life, was pretty much a lemon. I traded it in after the 7th trip for warranty work and and had the dealer found me a dually with the g56, I love it, will never go back.
get the g56 bud. better fuel economy with less drive train loss plus engine and exhaust brake combined would be much better for hauling. delete it and throw in a southbend clutch and good to go. ill be waiting for it:)
yes you are right!! driving home from dealership 39 miles on truck going through Bakersfield CA where its really flat for miles truck was getting 18- 20 MPG's ! I going to check into this southbound clutch keep hearing bout it
Thanks for this. I had a 4th gen (2010) g56 and I also hated the ratios... Much prefer my 5600 (24v) for towing and I like the 4500 (12v) for fun and speed. The 2010 g56 was much better deleted and tuned, especially with the 'torque management' off. I also ran Lazarsmith GJ fluid which I would highly recommend if you haul with a g56. If the new ratios are better that makes me curious to try 4th/5th gens again.
I know this is 6 years old but to save any future reader time and money: do not spend a single penny on Lazarsmith products. That dude is a scumbag and does not know how to build a transmission.
Do it! You could prob find ways to manage your mobile office even w/ a shifter. Does Rams unconnected work well enough to do that? Or is it hokey? I appreciate ram allows you to configure a 6 speed in most trims. Chevy, Ford, Toyota, and Nissan offer little to no options for manual transmissions. You either have to buy a base 2 wheel drive, or (Toyota) makes you buy a higher trim level.
Hello to a fellow Spokanian! Ive got a 2007.5 6.7 with the G56, great for towing and braking with exhaust brake but a pain in the spot to be shifting for years on end towing heavy equipment on a daily basis. Considering which trans to go with for a second tow truck
Really looking into swapping my 2nd gen swapped 2009 from the 68rfe to the G56. Just need some more information along with a good donor or idea on where to buy one.
@@alanack67 it’s the longevity aspect of a g56. if you take care of it, i don’t see why it won’t last 300-400k and a 68 wont last that long. maybe an aisin but there’s a big price difference there
I went back to the G56 in 14 for my dually. No regrets!!
Get the manual! I have a 2017 with a G-56 and love it.
