    It's great that you mentioned that tricks maintain the name as well as the tail and nose of the board.
    I thought that Popsicle boards were symmetrical, and I recently learned they're not. What would happen if I ride my board in my regular stance but with the tail in front? Is there a problem with that? is ollie harder to make? if not, why the difference then?

    • @NeverStopImprovingSB
      @NeverStopImprovingSB  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're absolutely right, most 'popsicle' boards (like the one I'm riding in this video) are asymmetrical. I can tell you from personal experience however, that even though a majority of people respect what the manufacturer dictates is the nose and the tail of the board, you don't always have to (or even want to) skate your board just one of the two possible ways.
      The difference in the construction of most boards is that they are made so that the nose of the board has a slightly steeper concave. This enables advanced skaters to fine tune their tricks and give them an extra level of control when they need it.
      I personally COMPLETELY ignore what orientation my board is in, and treat both ends of the board the same (they eventually started to feel the same to me as well). This gives me, as an amateur, more power, because I am not limited in the tricks I can do by the direction my board is rotated. I can just jump on it and go without looking for visual cues on the griptape or hardware to make sure it's rotated correctly, and I don't have to waste time spinning it the right way. Additionally, it takes me twice as long to get razor tail because I skate both ends of the board equally :)

      I will say using your "nose" switch is typically helpful obtaining more pop.

    Surely pushing mongo in fakie makes sense because your pushing foot goes straight on the part of the board you need to pop? If you push with your back foot in fakie, you have to then shuffle your front foot onto the nose, which is exactly what makes pushing mongo in regular a bad idea.

    I’m confused. Fakie is the stance you’d be in when setting up for a nollie?

    • @NeverStopImprovingSB
      @NeverStopImprovingSB  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you'd use nollie stance for that. Fakie stance would set you up to do a fakie ollie. and remember, in fakie stance, the leading part of the board is still referred to as the tail of the board, so even though it looks like what you'd think of as a nose ollie, it's something different.

  • @therealcroctopus
    @therealcroctopus 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just what I needed! However, one quick question. Would you not consider a fakie 5-0 a switch nosegrind? I'm sure it's just semantics, but I was curious WHEN something like that becomes switch. Does it depend on how you get into the trick?

    • @NeverStopImprovingSB
      @NeverStopImprovingSB  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Chris, that is such a good question. I almost wish I had put something about that right in the video now that you asked it.
      So stuff like this is a lot less ambiguous when you're tricking on a rail or ledge because you have to pop the board off the ground to get it into the air to start the trick, and you know what stance you're in based off of which part of the board popped off the ground. So if you pop the trailing edge of the board off of the ground and grind on the front truck, it's either a switch nosegrind or a switch crooked grind. If you pop the leading edge off the ground, it's a fakie 5-0.
      But for quarter pipe tricks, you can either pop one side of the board off the ramp OR just kind of roll right into the trick so it's a little harder to tell. At 3:51 in this video, I didn't ollie into the trick, but I never moved my feet into switch stance (i.e. my foot never went behind the trailing set of wheels), so it would be a fakie trick.
      If I had, however, been approaching the quarter pipe in switch stance, and moved my leading foot to the nose of the board (it would be the nose in this case because we're not in fakie stance any more), you could accurately refer to the trick as either a fakie trick or a switch trick. BUT, I wouldn't really feel comfortable going around telling people that I can do switch crooked grinds until I could properly switch ollie into them, even on a quarter pipe, since the assumption is usually that if you aren't doing an ollie into the trick, you'd just roll into it from fakie stance.

    How to get your switch foot use to sliding for ollies/flicking for kickflips? Mines like a dead fish

    • @NeverStopImprovingSB
      @NeverStopImprovingSB  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have to train it just like you did for your other foot. Remember how long it took you to do your first kickflip? It'll probably take a similar amount of practice for you to do the same with your other foot.
      One thing that helped me was practicing switch tricks on a trampoline using a board with no trucks.
