You bring a TV with you ? An issue with a tent is you are in a confined space, cant do much more than lie there or sleep, your sleeping bag in cold weather has to be fully zipped up so you cocooned. Doing the toilet in cold wether is super fun NOT.
Hey Ben, thanks for this video. I do like the reality to this one. Winter camps are a lot of hours in a tent, cold and keeping warm. I like how you avoided the normal glamourous nature of wild camp videos on TH-cam - sunsets, sunrises and stunning vistas. This one is refreshing as no two wild camps are the same. I appreciate it. Thanks. Happy New Year mate.
thats a top tip about having a dirty side and a clean side of the sit mat to have your boots in the inner! my boots were frozen the other night up on kinder scout, couldnt tie the laces as they were frozen stiff!
Frozen boots are definitely an experience woke up on the 3rd+4th with frozen tent inside and out and frozen boots Good test of gear somewhere reasonably easy to bail from
this is one of the best videos you ever made (i told you what the other one is) i always thought it was a shame you dident make longer videos lets have more of those ...... best regards from scandinavia
All the glamour, yep basically that’s wild camping, we all do it for our own reasons and make it what we want. Mostly camps for me mean I can sit and do nothing for a long time which is very different to home and work life. I love being bored 🙏🏻 thanks Ben ❄️
I do prefer the less produced and more natural long video. I'm not a novice but still enjoy seeing how others deal with different issues. You really only get that with this long format IMO. Nice job!
An excellent video, the longer format worked. I’m with you on the Wayfarer meals, they are always pretty consistent and convenient as they don’t take long to heat up. A few more recipe variations would be from them. Less condensation that I think you expected, bit thats all good. The sleep mat looked good too, so that’s now on my list of things to buy. Happy New Beans and Sausage Year..!! 😀
All your hint tips etc are fab. Super practical. And lots of ideas I will "steal" for our regular camping (coz they were work on site too) and my car camping. Thank you.
Really appreciate the truth and reality of winter camping. I need a new liner for my sleeping bag, so ill be taking a closer looking at the reactor, thanks for a great video.
A longer video, hurrah! Enjoyed that, yes, I admit on a long dark winter camp I like to add a frisson of fear by camping under trees if it's windy or listening to true crime podcast after lights out! 😂
Great video Ben, good to see you do a longer one. Really enjoyed it. I'm a similar sleeper to yourself when I'm wild camping, no matter how tired I am i seem to wake up every couple of hours or so, (Usually needing a wee) but can fortunately doze off again. I also use a bag liner, as I only have a 3 season OEX Fathom 300 synthetic sleeping bag. I have the OEX Furnace +8. Works for me as well, makes a heck of a difference, Probably doesn't add the 8 degrees they claim but I bet is 5 or or so. I also use the cheap (2 for a quid) hand warmers that stay warm all night. Throw a couple in the bag an hour before I get in and they have really warmed it up. Cheers. . 👍
Nice seeing you out on a longer 'start to finish' video - showing all the tricks and tips too... Tent length must have been frustrating. Pee bottle review video next?
I enjoyed the longer format. It just felt natural. Another vote for the Osprey Atmos AG50 or AG65. It has everything you've mentioned (not the LT version though which ditches some features for a minor weight reduction). Also if you weren't aware, the Talon range isn't actually designed for carrying weight. The 36, 44 and 55 litre versions all have a recommended load range of 7-11kg which especially for the latter of those two is very much on the light side for a backpack. For a solid back (Airscape in the Osprey world) designed for heavier loads I think it's the Aether range.
Great wee camp, Ben. That was pretty enjoyable. Didn't even seem like 40 mins. I take it your sleepmat didn't bottom out like the NH one did. That's good to know. I may now take the plunge and splurge out on it; just a question on whether to get the full-size or mummy-shaped one.
Hi mate, great vid. Nature hike aloft pillow has a strap to loop around mat. I have a 5.8 lite tour, looking at the 8. Although I have a better sleep using military issue roll mat 😂😂 I make a coffee or mocha with jetboil water after wayfarer meal. Still alive so far 😂
Knew where u was in the first 5 seconds, one of my favourite places that is! Check out the little trails off the main path in the woods, they all lead to sweet camping spots 👍 nice vid cheers 👌
Thanks! I've been eyeing the mat as this years upgrade. That, the new Durston X-Dome (waiting for kinks to be ironed out), and a quilt as my mummy sleeping bag drives me nuts as a side sleeper.
Totally agree on the Ospreys - especially with back system - if they could cross over the army Bergen with rocket side pouches would be perfect great vid
I must admit I quite like the longer video, maybe because it's something you haven't done so often. Looks like a good tent, although a little heavy. Cheers Ben, B&S

Wow, waited ages to see someone else use the ferrino force 2. I've had no issues with it at all on top of Kinder Scout, side of Hellvelyn etc. Bit heavier than some tents but hey ho. Made my day!.
Thoroughly enjoyed the longer video. I have my portable radio and my Kindle that keep me entertained until it's time to sleep, but at home I hardly ever turn the TV on anyway and Alexa plays me Greatest Hits Radio (showing my age there) as I move from room to room so not much change there.

HNY Ben 👍🏻 Ice Flame make a great down balaclava, like having a lovely light but very cosy down sleeping bag for your head and ears; if you get cold about the whiskers and ears I'd definitely recommend it, had one for three years, not going back to a beanie. Speaking of which, all the B'n' S for '25 😄
Annoyingly they changed that on the 2022 model I think. You would have to cut at least one, maybe two holes in the mesh to do that. The previous model let you do that though but it didn't have hip belt pockets and people complained so they changed it. Should have bought the older model to be honest as the straps were better and I don't really care about hip belt pockets, especially since they are too small for anything on the newer exos.
Well, I really need another long video Daley...I thought it was great 👌 I hope the tent passes the rain test, because being a short arse, I think it looks like a great option for me. Please include Rosie in the garden rain test 🙏...and also, if she could spray you with the water hose, so we know it's a genuine test, that would really make the video fun to watch 😁👌
Interesting British take on "winter". AlthoughI've seen British winter camping in raging blizzards. Here in the mountain west (Nevada, USA) my idea of winter camping is anything from 0 C. to -30 C. so I take the proper garments including my sleep system and tent. i looked at a green inca 65l in M,W was 99 went back was gone an none on website tried the usual online places ended up with blue 80l instead green 65l for 25 ...
One not so good thing about the design is that it appears the zipper runs across the inner at the top. That’s a no no as water can hit the inner as you get in an out of the tent if it’s raining etc.

@@DaleyOutdoors A good weight of over 2kg ;). Everyone prefers something different, for me too many zippers. I quickly learned to pack in one pocket. What I don't like at first glance are the compression straps on the sides, because they go over the pockets, which is not handy. I recommend Gregory Focal. Weight about 1.2 kg. It has everything you want except the loop on the front for poles. Very comfortable. Durable for its weight. It has two seasons behind it. Walking in the bushes and a few parties with friends. I don't know how much weight you normally carry. Here you mention 15kg. I think that's its maximum, then it will be less and less comfortable. I carried 22kg in it for a distance of 7 miles. Nothing happened to it, no deformation or anything. But you could already feel the decrease in comfort and the frame not working properly. I recommend considering the 58L version considering how much stuff you carry.
Osprey make the Exos exactly what you want, buy an old model, i didnt like the latest one either, the old model without the hip belt pockets was better the side straps routed under the side pockets and it carried the same weight more comfy and had better more taught back mesh which made it great for a sweaty back. I have tge latest talon 44 now which i like for sumner over night camps
Why do you not put your guylines out? What clothes did you sleep in? You should always change out of your day clothes into longjohns and a clean thermal shirt to sleep in else you get cold from the moisture given off from your body during the day.
@@GrizzlyGaz Yes, i did watch all of it. He said he did not put his guylines out as not winds were forcast, but having wild camped for over 40 years io find forcasts are never 100% correct so peg out my guylines before I need to. I did not hear what he was sleeping in, so what was it?
@@angelaknisely-marpole7679 I did the bottle before I went to sleep. I changed my jacket and got into the sleeping bag liner. I didn’t get cold after that like I said, I always wake a few times on camps.
Preferred the longer video format on this'n. Didn't find it boring at all... what was boring was me on Dartmoor t'other night, camping on a tor with nothing to do, except look at the darkness for 14 hours! 😂
Is there a difference between the cheap and more expensive sleeping bag liner? I have a cheap naturehike one, but ive seen some £50+ ones in go outdoors. What do ya reckon mate?
Winter camping is all about bragging rights for having the balls to wake up at minus 10 Celcius and surviving it. It's to show the world to show you're SAS material. Other than that it's horrible basically, with few daylight hours and nothing to see. But it could still be fun, especially when you're in a group. At least you don't sweat a lot. Try everything at least once in your life.
If you've got a spare t shirt with you pull it over the mattress and shove the pillow up inside it. Stops it moving around .
or attach a strap to the ends of the pillow that keeps it in place.
@DemiGod.. yeah mine has one already fitted but in the heat of the moment a t shirt will help 😊
I'm with you Daley... camping is boring, but I can't think of a better way to be bored. 😁

Didn't find it boring at all... what was boring was me on Dartmoor t'other night, camping on a tor with nothing to do, except look at the darkness for 14 hours! 😂
Sounds like heaven to me 😆
Mate you had orbs in your tent.
Temu chicken feathers 😆
Is there a difference between the cheap and more expensive sleeping bag liner? I have a cheap naturehike one, but ive seen some £50+ ones in go outdoors. What do ya reckon mate?
I’ve only used the sea 2 summit one mate. I think it was £40 on sale.
It’s always fun 😂 what you mean 😂
