- TH-cam TV is crushing the competition. Why is the live TV service more popular than Hulu Live, Sling TV, Fubo and DIRECTV STREAM?

📺If I Cut the Cable TV Cord in 2024, I'd Do This! th-cam.com/video/D_gtDWx4MRQ/w-d-xo.html
I know 3 people who canceled Comcrap and got TH-camtv. Nobody likes Comcrap
TH-cam TV is straightforward to use. I love being able to customize the TV guide and sort the channels as I want them. As far as I know, no other TV streaming app offers that! I also love the split screen during sports. Their DVR and the possibility of pause are also important.
I miss the days when YTTV was only $35/month, but obviously that was never sustainable. Even now with the more than doubled pric, the channel selection has grown and I’m thankful for still having the unlimited DVR.
Used to pay $150 for Xfinity cable. Because of your help, I cut the cable, subscribed to TH-camTV and trying to figure out how I can use an antenna for OTA and streaming on the same TV. Someday, I figure it out. You channel is awesome.
I use an AirTV and Sling. Sling combines the OTA locals and the streaming in the guide. Attach a usb drive to the AirTV and you can record OTA. Recordings for both OTA and streaming are listed in the DVR section in Sling. I only use Sling for a few shows I can't get OTA so 40$ a month is reasonable. However, you can sign up for Sling and just use the FreeStream for free and still get OTA integrated.
Was always hesitant to cut cord because I really just didn’t understand it all, and kept trying to renegotiate my comcast cable until they got to the point where they were basically laughing in my face. I was watching your channel for 2 years. Then comcast wanted to start charging $290 a month for the same basic plan plus internet. Finally took your advice, bought the Roku 4k express, watching your “how to” videos pausing them every 5 seconds to learn, watch and fumble with everything. Paying for YTTV, plus free Pluto, and all the Roku channels, $73 plus internet. Paying $100 less per month.
Paid $190/month for cable (Internet & 80 channels). Now I’m paying only $53 for cable Internet and $73 for TH-camTV. Savings of $64/mo.
Not bad - thanks for sharing.
Erroneous cable $70/mo has locals.
I pay around $320/mo with tax for all subscriptions. Cell phones, internet, and streaming. Att fiber internet, Verizion prepaid unlimited+ data, verizion prepaid backup home internet, t-mobile prepaid cell phone, slingtv (blue orange, lifestyle entertainment), disney bundle (hulu, disney, espn+), Netflix no ads, and a local newspaper e-edition. I do have an antenna. No amazon prime because I struggle to find anything worth buying on Amazon. No need for paramount or peacock. Hbo max is waste of time.
I have reduced my tv viewing costs from Direct tv at $150/month, to youtube live at $73.00. I changed internet service from Charter 500Gb at $129.00, to Frontier fiber optic at $59.95. I couldn’t be happier with the changes. Hopefully I’ll be able to live without live tv and go strictly streaming. But as of now I am very content with the changes. This from a guy who grew up with about 6 channels and a roof antenna. Thank you Michael for starting me off on this journey to cheaper tv!
Hi, Michael! We were having recording problems with pixelation so bad that the shows were impossible to watch and dropped recordings. I rebooted, signed in and out, everything I could think of.
While in settings I found "data saver" and turned it off. Everything is now great in tunetown and wifey is happy!
Michael, I live in Northern California and love Baseball, when I "cut the cord" the ONLY (and I mean ONLY) streaming service that carried the SF Giants Channel (NBCS BA, NBC Sports Bay Area), was TH-camTV, that's why I subscribed.
Excellent video thanks 😊
having it since 2017 when they released the YTTV & i cut the cord , NEVER changed to others , cancelled or paused it since then & f*n looovin it still ... as always says, BEST of the BEST piss on the rest🥰🔥👍👌
I think part of it might have to do with the NFL Sunday Ticket, which I have had on my alternate TH-cam channel for 2 years counting this upcoming season, and 7 years on our former DIRECTV account (9 total).
Yes, NFL Sunday Ticket is definitely a big part of the equation.
I cut the cord several years ago too. Was with Spectrum and our bill was close to $200 a month with internet. I tried several of the other services, but ended up with YTTV. I still have to pay Spectrum $80 a month for internet. With that $80 and YTTV's $78 (with tax), it's still cheaper than cable. I also subscribe to Philo because it has several channels that I like that YTTV doesn't carry. All of this and it is STILL cheaper than cable TV (not a lot, but I'm happy). Plus, no contracts or equipment fees and constant small increases. I also love that I can pause YTTV (as I'm currently doing for the summer/re-run months) and not having to pay, saving that money for each month that it's paused - and still retain all of my recordings. Michael has been a huge help with this cord-cutting business.
TH-cam is very easy to use. Just wish it was easier to switch channels.
We almost never watch anything live, so switching "channels" isn't an issue for us.
@@smark1180 so you’re paying for a live streaming tv service and not watching live tv..
I recently switched from YTTV to Hulu Live. Hulu had some must have channels that YTTV had gotten rid of.
I definitely agree with the competition comments. While having TH-cam TV (and others) as an alternative to Cable/Sat TV is a good thing, I just hope it doesn't become a monopoly within the live TV services (streaming or otherwise).
Competition is Great ! I used to have Comcast/ISP which can have good deals but because the wiring is faulty I went with t-mobile 5g ... I think I pay $ 55 per month for that. Seattle/Kent, WA area. If you can hook up an antenna, I HIGHLY recommend that ! Especially if you can hook up up outside. I had a good system in a former apartment. I even had a few OTA dvrs that I could record to. Maybe the best current thing on local TV is sports. With some of the OTA DVRs you can stream to your phone what you may be recording ! I haven't had CableTV for 10 years ... just hated paying for it ... then having to rent equipment and dvr and watching commercials ! I'm a member of TH-cam Premium and watch a lot of stuff there. I also watch Roku free TV stations that have on local news stations as well as in other parts of the country.
OK I finally cut the cord from directv and went youtube tv for a couple yrs. But now I notice the stream services inching their way upwards. So I dropped the stream and now its over the air tv for me. Of course finding the right antenna of each individual is the issue I finally found one for me that brought in my locals and I happen to live 35 mi from my local big city. The cheaper indoor channel master antenna works for me as it has the 12' RG6 cable. This is not to say I wont pick up a certain stream during winter time to see my fav team or not. If I do it may only be for a month or two.
7:30 I have Straight talk as my Internet, TH-cam TV or other streaming services is TV and Phone is Vonage
I was looking into streaming TV. I signed up for TH-cam TV as a free trial and I cancelled it because of the price. I want to know if I can use use it or other TV service out there.
No regional sports is a deal breaker for me
First you’re hyping up TH-cam tv and 6 days later you quit!😂
I still think it’s the best for many people. I quit for personal reasons that I explained in the video.
I'd subscribe to Sling but they don't include local channels in my area so they are automatically out (antenna is crap here).
Thanks for the info. I've been a TH-cam Tv subscriber for a few months now. My experience has been good thus far. As to changing the channel when viewing a live channel, can you do that and if so, how is it done ? Like on Directv satellite, when viewing a channel, I use the remote channel up button. Is there something on TH-cam such as this ?
Afaik while watching Live channels there's no way to directly access a different channel. However, scroll down and with TV Networks highlighted you can scroll across to the desired channel without returning to the Live Guide.
TH-cam TV for New Hampshire residents does not carry either NHPBS or WMUR. It also doesn't carry Boston station WHDH. Hulu Live does carry WMUR and NHPBS, though it also doesn't carry WHDH.
I find Direct TV Streaming meets my needs best because of the cable like guide and features. I have the $79 package so cost and channel coverage are fine. Different services meet different needs.
Understand! And their DVR is getting better. 30 episode max is being lifted starting Monday. I got confirmation just hours ago.
I dont use much internet at a time and i just cut my spectrum bill down to 24.99 for 50 down and 10 up. Have no problem with streaming, gaming ect. Where i live spectrum is the only internet provider in my area
Thanks!
Thanks, Mike!
I have sling orange and I like it only bad thing is you have only one stream , they should have at least 2
Yeah I always assumed that limit is due to whatever deal they have with Disney
Nothing was better than Play Station TV 🔥
As a long time Linux user who had PSTV I disagree as it would not work on my desktops, or laptops, I switched to Hulu + Live for a while before my area got TH-cam TV, and it mostly worked in Firefox, and Chrome, TH-cam TV does not care as long as my browsers are updated, plus it also allows me to use it work where PSTV blocked me when I was in the same zip code 6 minutes from home, and because I have T-Mobile 5G I doubt it would have worked as well as TH-cam does that allows me to use their Android app on my phone to verify my location with GPS, as T-Mobile shows me 4 hours west in Atlanta, GA. So yeah PSVue was good, but far from perfect, and did not work as good as TH-cam TV does now.
Just cut cable w Direct TV .. my June 24 bill was $226! After the reduce my bill call, they canceled my ESPN’s .. si I cancelled them. Still undecided on TH-cam tv
Finally cut the cord! I feel so free! Directv charging $239.00 for old shows and tv that goes out during a storm. I had to call almost every month for billing "errors".
I read about this few days ago... With recent news that YTTV is killing it expect a price hike in next few months
Wouldn't surprise me. I am watching to see how Venu Sports (if it launches by the fall) impacts all of these services.
@@MichaelSaves venu sports?
@@joek1978atyahoo Yes that’s the new sports bundle
I would consider signing up for Sling TV if the Orange package had at least two streams.
i dont understand when youtube tv doesent offer Rsns or Mlb Network anymore direc tv stream has more cable like channels yea its more expensive but its either that or Direc to Consumer for my Marquee Sports Network for Cubs Games in Chicago
I have a feeling that TH-cam TV has gone all in with NFL Sunday Ticket. Unfortunately Baseball itself is not as popular as it once was. I am surprised that TH-cam TV is not at least offering MLB Network on the Sports Add On which is how MLB Network is offered on Sling TV. TH-cam TV probably does not see it as a priority to bring back MLB Network. During to the demand of fans wanting MLB Network to return to TH-cam TV Hulu with Live TV added MLB Network to the Main Plan this year.
My only problem with Sling is their picture quality and resolution. Every channel is 720p/30 frames per second, even channels that originate as 1080p/60fps. I didn't pay nearly $3000 for my OLED to watch 720p/30fps. But if Sling improved its picture quality to TH-cam TV's level, I would switch in a heartbeat.
Some on-demand content streams at 1080p on sling tv which is annoying
I am paying $92 monthly for SlingTV. I had TH-cam until they removed the History Channel. First, it was the Tennis Channel. They brought it back, but then removed History. Plus, I keep saying we have been with Sling since they began. ❤❤❤❤
I like YT TV, I just wish they would let you delete your recorded shows. I'll be pausing my service till September, when the European football leagues start. In CA I was paying 185 a month from Cox 🤦
are they subsidizing that with all teh damn adverts from youtube videos? they have an advert like every 90 seconds on some videos
It’s gone too far
The new VENU is going to take a big bite out of several services. A big chunk of the population wants sports and little (if anything) else.
I think that’s definitely possible.
$215mo ATT Direct TV, Internet, Phone (San Francisco Bay Area)
I like sling TV better although it doesn't offer live TVs but it has add-ons where you can get up 72 more channels they have the total deals package which gives you 72 more channels for a total of 115 channels and 200 DVR 3 live streams it's crazy and it's only $61 still cheaper than all the other ones
I still prefer Sling TV for the Live TV Streaming Service. Sling TV always comes back every now & then. I like the price & customization of add ons. Some people might be confused with the two main plans, the add ons, & local channels only in major markets that are on owned & operated affiliates of Fox, ABC, & NBC. Hulu with Live TV & TH-cam TV have a cable like feel. NFL Sunday Ticket probably helped TH-cam TV grow despite NFL Sunday Ticket also available on TH-cam Prime Time channels.
Definitely with Sunday Ticket!
Can’t get locals,.
Started with Sling TV in 2016 and migrated to YTTV in 2019. YTTV arrogantly dropped the MLB network and can't stop arrogantly promoting NFL Sunday Ticket which displeases me. I really don't DVR that much and Sling's 50 hours would probably suit me. I can see myself giving Sling TV another shot. I could care less about the locals as I have a good antenna set-up. If I got just Orange I'd be saving a lot of money because I only require one feed anyway. If I got Blue and Orange I'd still be saving quite a bit. I used to care about college football but someone told me the University of California is in the Atlantic Coast Conference. That's just crazy.
Make sure you have an antenna that gets the local channels (at least the ones you care about) BEFORE cutting the cord. Do not just buy a random hd antenna and stick it on a wall thinking that it will get channels. It won't work. Trust me I tried. You have to experiment with antennas and positions. You likely need Mohu or better, with amplifier. Even the coaxial line matters - I switched to a shorter one recently and reception has been better.
It took me about 2 years to find something that worked the best. Now it makes sense for me to go with something like Sling, since I get local channels with antennas. 25 bucks vs 75 bucks, it's no brainer. But OTA channels and the likes of Tubi are enough for me.
With TH-cam TV, can you record a series and set it to only record new ones.
No, it will record all episodes in a series
I canceled it. I watch the history channel and they don’t have it. So I got an antenna and tablo and philo. I’m happy at $50/ months less.
How do you receive _The History Channel_ over antenna?
@@smark1180 no. I use the antenna for over 100 ota channels. The tablo for dvr and Philo for history channel plus tons of other stuff
@@lrlevy Then your comment about the antenna is irrelevant to "I watch the history channel and they don’t have it."
@@smark1180they also said they use Philo. History is on Philo.
@@smark1180 I watch history on Philo
I would love to get TH-cam TV, but at $75 bucks a month, it's just too expensive in today's economy.🙏
Same here, Loved having it but wasn't worth the money
You are able to share You Tube Tv at another location which a friend of mine do. We split the cost in half .
@timothylcorl6632 good idea, but I don't know anyone that has TH-cam Tv.
I’d go for TH-cam but they don’t have history channel
NOOOOOOOOO!!! I have to rethink this because that is one of the few channels I watch
No big deal since they because the "Aliens Built The Pyramids" channel.
The problem with that is the cost. Then there's the subscriptions. Max, Disney Plus, Paramount+, Where does the corporate greed stop? Cutting the cord as you call it, I don't see the difference anymore. Both dig really deep into our bank account.
It’s not about paying less. It’s more just a choice of who you want to hand your paycheck to. I despise Verizon (my local cable carrier), so I’d rather hand over all my money to someone else. But make no mistake, someone’s gonna screw you - you just get to choose who.
Can returning customers of TH-cam tv get a free trial??
Usually not
Can you talk about Vonage home phone
I had Vonage in the late 00's soon as my small town got cable internet since it was the best option at the time, and so my grandmother whom I as taking care of at the time could call for much cheaper as she hated cell phones, & It's an outdated overpriced service for what you get with it as paying monthly for a VOIP line is stupid, if you truly need a home phone VOIP line go with MagicJack as it's much cheaper, as they offer multi year deals, so all you have to pay for after buying the MagicJack device is a is your local e911 fees yearly. The only catches to Magicjack is you pay extra for international calling, no phone if the power/internet goes out, you have to set up the MagicJack device on a Windows based computer using their software before it becomes stand alone, and don't use the USB power brick in the package as it's crap, and could fry your MagicJack device, so get a better one that can do at least 2 amps. hope this helps you out.
I don’t see a TH-cam tv trial, other than a $15 discount per month, for the first 3 months. I’ve had TH-cam premium for a few years now. I thought there might be a combo deal.
There is usually a free trial for new customers only. I am seeing one today. However, this changes throughout the year. For example, today (Monday) is a big sports day because of hockey. YT Premium is separate and no deal if you have both.
Yet you posted a video saying you are dropping them. ?
Really I always thought TH-cam TV popularity was from being a spin off of the biggest video sharing site on the web.
Likely a big factor!
Michael - have you heard if any of the services are considering an a la carte channel option.
The subscriber model: pick the channels you want and pay for those accordingly.
There are a lot of channels available on TH-cam TV, Hulu LIVE, and Sling. But, many go unwatched. Which means subscribers are paying for content they’re not watching.
I’ve subscribed to all these services over the years and consistently only watch the same < 10 channels.
Unlikely to happen
Why would you pay ANYTHING for channels that show commercials?
in time al of these streaming live tv services will be as expensive as Cable tv is and Cable you dont have Buffering issues even if you have the Best internet plan it stil happnes
It’s ok I had it for a year and got rid of it
TH-cam TV maybe getting a big competitor. At the rate Netflix keeps adding live Events, how long will it be before Netflix has a live TV service.
Well, that's another really good point. I have been thinking about how I classify these services. Many of the "on-demand" services have started to add a lot of live TV.
It doesn't matter if you have dish DirecTV or DirecTV streaming or TH-cam TV Hulu it's all cable TV. Cable TV is a set group of channels like we've always had. Putting it in an app changes nothing it's still cable TV.
I had TH-cam tv for years and consider it the best live TV streaming service. However, I switched to Hulu live because TH-cam tv doesn't carry any regional baseball networks anymore. If you live in NY, you can't get Mets, Yankees or MLB Network on TH-cam tv. That was a deal breaker for me. I hope that changes soon but they don't seem to be focused on baseball anymore.
Get a VPN and get the channels you want.
I pay $320/mo with tax for cell phones, internet, and streaming.
I was paying 200 for dish and dish internet 4 years ago now i pay 140 for You-tube tv and internet.
If only TH-cam TV had the Reelz channel.
How do you watch Reelz? Through Peacock?
@MichaelSaves Yeah. Just wish it had the ability to pause & DVR.
And don’t forget that fubo does not have Turner channels TBS, TNT, TCM and truTV. This is going to be more important this year because some of the college football playoff games will be on TNT. And of course a good deal of March. Madness games are on TBS TNT and truTV. As well as the American League baseball playoffs. fubo claims that they are the best service for sports fans. That is not true at all. Oh yes, before I forget the NHL is on TNT and not sure what the future future of the NBA on TNT is going to be.
I hope it stays there at least some of it because they cover the NBA better than any network covers any sport. Inside the NBA is the best show of its kind in the history of television.
Any live TV streaming subscription above $10 / mo is a no to me. There are simply too many free content available on the net and I hate to pay for channels I don't watch which is 90% of them.
Free content = old reruns
@@smark1180 Personally I find that to be a really misguided take, as OTA Antenna TV is free, and has plenty of new content, and plenty of the free live streaming services like Pluto TV have live 24/7 news channels that have new content all the time, plus companies like Tubi are producing their own original content, and licensing brand new content for their service which is free if you can put up with the ads. Lastly you can also count TH-cam as free content if you don't pay for YT Premium features, and creators are putting up new stuff all the time!!
I would love to get direct stream if it was cheaper over TH-cam tv
Im about to drop TH-cam tv. Going back to Directv. I need my sports
I love youtubetv. Got tired of dealing with Comcast
Sling sucks I purchased it for 16 dollars and I cancelled it after two days
RUKO TV
youtube tv in France, the specialist in crappy videos, and when they work, already: the image broadcast is real trash. TH-cam TV technicians are total rubbish. It deserves a trial for having the nerve to distribute such crap!
TH-cam TV should kiss you first. 🤔
an advert.
You must be new here.
Paid shill? Seems so. Locals not offered everywhere and is an upcharge over the $73.
You are incorrect. 1) Not a paid shill 2) The locals are included in the base plan
Bro stop it TH-cam dropping channels I can't because they drop MLB still don't ane no reelz I'm cool on it
Sling is trash don't do it yall
TH-cam is horrible. DIRECTV stream all the way.
Directv stream needs slow motion to get more customers
