- In this easy crochet baby blanket tutorial, I am going to show you how to crochet this Duckpond baby blanket in neutral colours. A friend of mine was expecting a baby a few weeks ago and did not want to mention the gender and I wanted to make a baby blanket for her. Now Zoe, one of our moderators on this channel came up with this brilliant idea of making a baby blanket in neutral colours so it will suit a boy and a girl. How amazing is this!
In this first part of this 2 part series, we are going to create the starburst squares.

I had a question though, how you weave the starbursts in; you don’t knot them or anything but do you ever have issues with strands coming out? My family is very rough on things (and I’m sorta accident prone honestly) and I’m concerned the starbursts will come undone. Any suggestions or advice?

Beautiful! But I do have one question, will the starburst remain in place? Did you secure "bursts" enough so that they won’t move or won’t undo?
I've never had a problem with any that I've made, they wash very well! Anja x

With them been sewn on they shouldn't come out in the wash.
I wondered the same thing. The starting and ending threads aren't tied off so it seems like they would come undone when washed.

Do you have any advice on similar colours in cottonsoft? Fudge and sage look good but can’t see another green that would be good

Love this pattern and your instructions are always so clear and concise. Is there a multiple number to increase the size of the squares. Such as 3 plus 1 or something.TIA

love the look of this and am wondering if I wanted to make it as one longer piece as say a table runner etc do I just do more stitches as long as its multiples of 38, Hope that makes sense :) thanks

Hi Anya, love this blanket and just started it but I have a question. If I wanted to make the square bigger, say a 6 by 6 instead of a 4 by 4 how many initial chains would I need as I thought the same pattern only bigger squares would make a lovely adult blanket ❤

I would love this on my king size bed but in different colors! It’s so unique and Vintage. Would you know how many squares I would have to do?
l'm sorry l don't know how many, but l suggest you make one and measure it, then you can calculate your required amount, hope this helps Fancie, Anja x
Is there a written pattern?
What size yarn and hook size are you using?
They said rec 4 but they use 3.5 hook
She uses a dk (weight 3) yarn and the suggested hook is 4mm but she herself prefers to use the 3.5 mm
I love the colours in the duck pond blanket but would like to make another baby blanket, do you have any other colour combinations using five colours ?
My best advice for colour combinations is to look to nature, or pick some balls of yarn out and see which 5 you like together!

It’s one of the easiest squares to make. So many possibilities with colors.

Hi Janet, there should be enough balls in one of the packs to make 2 blankets, so 7-8 balls a blanket, hope this helps, Anja x
