    I've always been a very distracted guy, living too much on the inside of my mind instead of being present in the real world, so focus is something I always wanted to improve and this video sure was/is very helpful :)

      Very glad it has been helpful! I'm naturally inclined to daydream too. But both mental states have their benefits. When we're unfocused, it actually helps with creativity. So neither is bad, it's just a matter of being in the right mindset at the right time and being able to switch between :-)

      It might be because people are attracted to easy. Why watch a 20 minute video like this when they can watch a 5 minute video titled "3 easy tips to stay more focused" with pretty whiteboard drawings and the such?

    To train my focus I stare at a candle fire and every time I lose my focus I come back to it and make it like a game also I visualize the the fire getting stronger aka my focus stronger

    • @TheBioneer
      @TheBioneer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      That is wicked. In fact, this is one technique some people use for meditation. I love the additional visualization on top of that though. Do you feel it's beneficial?

    • @ohgodimgood
      @ohgodimgood 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@TheBioneer It's interesting to note that the Latin word "focus" meant "hearth" or "fireplace", so the candle fire technique is quite appropriate.

    awesome topic here! i go hot or cold on focus often times getting so engrossed in what I'm doing that time seems to stand still...other times I can NOT get my self to focus and my brain is going in 100 different directions at once. my mom had absolutely TERRIBLE focus skills so I've probably got a bit of that in me from her haha. btw I sat in a full resting squat for the last 5 mins of this video...felt great! I also have taken to doing 50 calf raises while I brush my teeth (switching between dominant and non dominant hands). I've also started skipping last week...def comical results so far but also much improvement! tonight I tried it with NO shoes and it was so much better! you've been a good influence on me!

    Have you tried listening to white noise while working or studying? studies have shown that listening to white noise modulates activity in the substantia nigra/ventral tegmental regions, some of the main dopamine sources in your brain. Plenty of other studies show accelerated learning in people that listen to white noise while learning. Interesting stuff! Love your channel btw!

  • @aurelienyonrac
    @aurelienyonrac 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Emotional energy can be gather using negative feelings and transmuting them. Anger : dive in and see how passionat you are, because you are a caring person.sadness: you are becoming vulnerable, that is great because it means you are feeling safe and strong enough to be vulnerable.Depression: nothing matters anymore?! Great! You are free from emotional gravity. No more up no more down. Now you can achieve all that you have been procrastinating, since you don't care. Since you also don't mind anything, don't mind your mind. Don't judge yourself or don't mind mind it it happens.Fear: your new, unknown self is here so fast that the "old you" did not get the time to disappear. It is evolution at an accelerated rate. Jealousy: previou of the feeling you will get.I didn't come up with this Matt Khan did. Dive in negative energy and if you dive hard enough, it all transmut to positive. Like you flipped negativity on it's back to reveal, it is positiv. Any way, i hope it helps, for infinite energy!!!! :-D

    man you are AMAZING. you are like me in alor of ways. I am a tech geek (android phones specifically) and offcourse I watch channels like mkbhd and Android authority and that is when I discovered you. when you did your video about yourself on Android authority and when u said ur intersted in calisthenics It suddenly clicked. I adore calisthenics and tech like you. which made me follow you channel. and when I also saw that you worked with coldfusion that was even more amazing. your videos are amazing you have great content. and I nice mix between tech and fitness (both which I adore). I wrote u that comment to keep U motivated to wake up in the morning. but its all real. I am also thrilled at how big you are but can manipulate your bodyweight very well which shows that you habe a lot of relative strength.

    I suspect that our drive and energy is also linked to how we perceive time. A lot of us are bound to 8 hour work schedules, we have 8 hours of sleep to sneak in, 1hour of transportation to and from work, etc. could it be that there are some individuals...Bill Gates, Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Nikoli Tesla (RIP) and so forth, are humans that perceive time differently than we do, are they affected differently by the seasons? What do they experience when its dark outside? I mean time can be a capsule for a lot of people, myself included. But Insuspect that if we looked at time differently, it would definitely change us in a positive way.

      +Trinitrophenylnitramine Definitely. There are some people who never seem to run out of focus and drive and they all tend to have passion in common :-) As an asside, loving what you do also makes you more likely to gesticulate when you talk and studies show this is a predictor of perceived charisma. I find playing music that match my mood makes my brain 'ignore' the music.
    Metal when angry.
    Classical if I am really calm.
    Electro swing/uplifting music for neutral to mood boosting.
    Upbeat music to increase speed or keep speed.
    Mind you this is all in context of work where I need to be focused.
    And if a genre of music ever annoy me, I know I have misinterpreted my state and need to realign myself.
    That might even mean removing myself from the situation entirely. If for example it is person that cause frustration or distraction.
    If am to distracted by inner thoughts I write them down.
    Most of the time great work concerns are playing a round.

      It can be super hard to tune out background chatter. If you can't invest in a pair of headphones, then probably it will just come down to practice and being intently focused enough on the task at hand. What kind of tasks do you need to focus on?

  • @thea7854
    @thea7854 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    What was this video about? I couldn't focus..
    Jokes aside, very good content although I found the music a bit stressful and distracting. After having lived with depression and anxiety for over 10 years (started in early teenages) my focus and concentration are close to nonexistent and it does cause me to give up often when trying out new, healthy habits or any other interests. My new theory is that depression and anxiety can be likened to a brain injury (although you hear about the effects these mental illnesses can have on your brain, I have never heard it stated as such). Maybe it sounds too severe to call it that? However for me personally it gives me hope that if I can rewire my brain I can at least improve and steer away my brains inclination for depressive thoughts and habits. But it's a... slow... process... and sometimes it does feel futile. I want to research more into this and learn more about the brain but focus and patience definitely is an issue.

    • @TheBioneer
      @TheBioneer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Therése östergren Thank you! Sorry the music got in the way. Depression can be caused by all kinds of things but certainly it can come down to abnormalitiies in the brain. In some cases I have heard of, it has been as simple as a mincronutrient deficiency. There are links with inflamation too. And of course sometimes physical trauma can be the cause. Check out this fascinating TED talk: www.ted.com/talks/thomas_insel_toward_a_new_understanding_of_mental_illness/transcript#t-404060
      I'm sorry to hear you're having a hard time of it, but it's great you're being so proactive :-) Good luck!

      I agree with Therese about the sound in the background, it can be lowered, indeed. In all videos.
      Besides that, thanks for sharing all this stuff, your channel rocks!

    I've always thought the motivation equation: expectancy*value/impulsivity*delay was a bit simple. It's certainly useful, but it's only part of what's going on.

    Just outta curiosity, do you have a video about why the brain can generate too many goals that you can't focus on one thing for a long period of time?

    Your dislikes button is driving me insane. I'm one of them people that wants to touch something if I'm told not to, but once again, I can't touch that stupid dislike button.

    How do you program for long periods of time without ruining your eyesight?

    • @TheBioneer
      @TheBioneer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Nik Novak A lot of people now think screens actually aren't bad for eyesight. The old studies that suggested otherwise found a correlation between eyesight and how close people sat to the TV. But they had the correlation the wrong way round - people sat close because they had bad eyesight! Prolonged strain still isn't great but it's no different than reading. As long as you take breaks, avoid glare on the screen and keep the font size large. You can also use the 'splatter vision' technique I talked about in the recent flow video to counteract the negative effects of intensely focussed vision. I've never had any issue with it though :-)
