I remember seeing an interview with Glen Campbell back in the early 90's. The interviewer asked Glen what some of his most memorable moments from his television show were. Glen's first reply was "Singing "Blowin' In The Wind" with Stevie Wonder". This is my first time seeing it. Awesome. Absolutely awesome.
I come back to this once a week. Glen Campbell is, in my opinion, one of the most well rounded musicians of his generation. This is him at his best. In that initial riff, he clearly has no idea what Stevie's doing, and he just goes with it. Then, he uses his excellent picking skill (the best ever, imo) to add soul to the piece, then that freaking vocal. His voice is perfect. Like he is literally the perfect pop-country tenor. His sound is pure in every imaginable way. He's not flashy, which is why he probably didn't get the recognition he deserves during his prime. But, hot damn if he wouldn't put him up there with any other artist of the 60's and 70's and say that he had as much talent as any of them. Hopefully, once he is released from the suffering he's currently in, people will find videos like this and come to recognize what a genius musician he was.
well said. Sadly Mr. Campbell passed away today 8-8-2017. Hopefully you take will come true. What a treat to say arguably 2 of the great music legends of the 20th century together in this video clip.
Jake, I was a very small child during Glen's variety show. But strangely, I still remember it. But I only knew Glen as just another big star of the day. So, I'm one of those that you just spoke of. For it took JUST NOW at Glen's death for me to start to watch all of these old videos and really understand his playing. I had no idea how great he really was. For I only remembered his songs like "Rhinestone Cowboy" and such. I had NO idea that he played jazz guitar, and the vast diversity of styles that he played.
WOW!!!!!!!!!! This clip is amazing. Glen Campbell surprisingly holds his own with Stevie. Two great vocalists, each in his prime. Very heartfelt and soulful. 5 stars!
I consider this my all time favorite musical video. It has everything a song could have for this award : hope and longing for peace , soul and folk, black and white , duet, a great melody, great singers , a Dylan composition , wonderful piano and orchestral support and so much love.....Thank you Stevie, Glen and Dylan and those who put this on TH-cam.
Nothing like this will ever happen again. You would never get 2 cosmic superstars together like this and honestly these are the 2 most talented singer/musicians to come out of the 60s/70s.Stevie's albums in the 70s were untouchable and after the Wrecking Crew Glen was able to play and sing anything - he was a country singer who ended up with his own All Genre Variety Show - country singers were confined before he crossed the barrier.
Glen is one of the best kept secrets in musical history. My father told me when I was a kid that Glen Campbell was an amazing guitarist. Still to this day I can only find snippets of tunes where he showcases that talent. He can tear it up big time, but for whatever reason, he remaims humble, and unknown for an extreme ability to play the guitar. Someboby needs to put him in the spotlight he seems to avoid..to showcase his talent.
Rarely have two bonified geniuses and musical talents with reputations the stuff of legend been paired together for a performance as special as this. Their collaboration on Dylan's most lasting testament to the brilliance of his own abilities as a songwriter is nothing less than a mind blowing thing to see and hear that borders on the supernatural. Campbell's legendary guitar prowess and pitch perfect vocal range combined with the " Boy Wonder's" other-worldly talents is a gift tro the ages.
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth:So is one born of the spirit This song brings me to tears
I agree. I so love how Glenn Campbell, would look at Stevie Wonder, as they were singing together, with such joy and appreciation that they were performing such a beautiful song. Pure bliss🤗
A lot of people forget (or don't know) that Glen filled in for Brian Wilson in the Beach Boys when Brian had to quit touring in the mid 60s, so the high-range vocal stuff is his thing. He also played guitar and bass on Pet Sounds.
Shawshank the Musical. This is so Great. I love how in the late sixties and seventies there were all these collaborations between styles especially on these American Entertainment shows and so many are on TH-cam, I often just randomly think of two singers of the time and search on here and see what comes up, and that's how I found this. You have here the top Country artist and the top Soul artist of their time singing a great 'alternative' anthem of the time, and it just feels so special. RIP Glenn Campbell.
Amazing stuff. The old days were gone before I got here but man, that's real talent. Black and White, they both got a lot of soul. Glen Campbell must be the only white boy that ever gave Stevie a run for his money vocally! Kudos Campbell, you old Scot! Stevie is a legend!
Listening to this warms my heart and gives me hope for humanity. Such beauty and talent. And the aura of brotherhood between the two of them adds such tenderness the makes the performance even more amazing. Man...
The genius of Bob Dylan. To write a song that would bring one of Motown's brightest stars and one of country music's brightest stars together for an awesome collaboration. LOVED IT!
Stevie is always astounding. I remembered Glen having a nice voice but who knew he could sing like THAT? This is golden. I always loved his beautiful lyrics and tunes, especially Wichita Lineman and Galveston. Love and appreciation to them both.
I got to see Glen and the writer Jimmy Webb, who wrote those songs for Glen a few years before he passed. Was NYC at a Cabaret show they were doing. Jimmy has always said Glen had one of the most versatile voices, right up there with Sir Paul McCartney.
I am just seeing your question now, long after you asked it. I was a fan of Stevie Wonder from 1963 when he made "Fingertips." And I watched Glen Campbell's TV show every week in the late 1960s. They are both still among my top 20 performers ever of the past 50 years. I remember very well watching this when it happened -- it seemed like such an exotic pairing. To me, growing up in a conservative household, it just seemed like great music -- more about human decency than politics.
I love this....I feel this was the most talented musician from the white popular musical world performing with the most talented musician from the black popular music world. Absolutely beautiful!
First time seeing this video clip. It amazing this duet was not released as a single. Brilliant. Just shows how in 1969 so many great variety of musicians (not so called performers in today's world). RIP Glen. Also more find a blessing the nearly 60 year career of Fellow legend Stevie Wonder as well.
This is what makes TH-cam so great... people who have never seen Glen Campbell before (except that horrible mug shot when he got picked up for GHB posession) now know how talented the man really was... he could pick a guitar as well as he could sing... a true talent... and of course Stevie is an ICON -- What a gem of a video, THANK YOU for posting it! :-)
WOW! I heard this in my car today o Siriusxm radio and I just had to look for it here. Simply amazing. One of those moments that couldn't be staged, just real and beautiful. Thanks for posting this!
These guys are both masters. Both are just both monster musicians, equals really. Campbell was part of the West Coast "Wrecking Crew" session team that provided COUNTLESS tracks for Motown Records (including Wonder), Beach Boys, and others.
Am here for Stevie Wonder, watched a programe last night abt Glen Campbell, an he now has Altzeimers, he is an amazing singer/songwriter and I applaude him xx
Many thanks to TH-cam for keeping this stuff and allowing us mortals to dip into their database, in a few years when the kids have seen through the x factor type crap and want to see real musicians its all here for them to be musically educated.
You know, Glen Campbell could have sang ANYTHING! His voice, so versatile. Never heard him sound like this. If you closed your eyes and listened, I don't think you would know it was him. May he rest in peace.
Wow. Often when artists do these one-off duets for TV (or live on stage) they're often messes. These guys mesh perfectly. It's not surprising at all.....and yet they're a duo that never once occurred to me! Fantastic.
thanks so much for sharing this - I remember my Mama used to listen to Glen Campbell when I was a little girl - and I've loved Stevie since then too...seeing them both perform together pulls at my heartstrings...
my sis and I are both Stevie fans and she told me to listen to this she was right its fab Thanks tamnliz now I cant stop watchin it luv ye jxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
This is so awesome! I've watched this so many times already! Look how Glen is surprised that Stevie starts singing the Buck Owens song in the beginning! Now that's classic!
Thank you for answering though. I just read an old article about Glen Campbell, written by Tommy Smothers and he comments that Glen would get letters from viewers from the South when he had a black artist on. Glen's standpoint was if someone is talented, he should be on the show, not because of race or politics. Which seems to fit in with how you viewed it at the time. Thanks!
To Lumdeloo:I wasn't aware of the article in your posting.I'm black I enjoyed the late Glen Campbell's music. In fact I go far back with his Goodtime Hour & the original Smothers Brothers Show.

Jake Marsing Well said sir.
Glen was so far ahead of his time, his ability to play that guitar with such accuracy and soul was unbelievable.
WOW!!!!!!!!!! This clip is amazing. Glen Campbell surprisingly holds his own with Stevie. Two great vocalists, each in his prime. Very heartfelt and soulful. 5 stars!
Surprisingly?
We all knew Stevie could sing but wow Glen blew the top off this !! I knew some of his songs but never knew he could sing like this ;)
+quinto Glen really rose to the occasion - great performance!

All Stevie said was "Sing it with soul." and boom! Glenn was awesome. LOL
Glen Campbell puts 100 percent into every song he does & he is one of the very best guitarist there is. Just great to see these 2 singing together.
Brugh he’s literally talking compared to Stevie- 🤦🏻♀️
Glen Campbell truely had one of the best voices in music

We expected for Stevie to do his THANG, but OMG Damn! Glen is Blowing & soulfuly I must add! Very damn good, very damn good.
I think the fact that Glen was so stoked when playing with Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder spoke volumes about his roots 🎹🎸🎶💙
how could they never sing together again? didn't anyone tell them that this was epic?

I wonder if Glen even amazed himself by that range. Geez. He is amazing in his musical talent.
Glen has soooo much soul, i never though of him as a Country Singer....just an awesome singer!
He was a talented singer!
Sure does

This is absolutely incredible!!!! Can you see todays artists coming together regardless of their musical background to do this???
I watch things like this and think... Thank goodness we live in the age of TH-cam.
Best version of this song. Their voices are beautiful together!

Glen Campbell is pretty damn great on his own. lol Amazing guitar player.
And so does Glen. The duets he did on his tv show were epic
I agree. I so love how Glenn Campbell, would look at Stevie Wonder, as they were singing together, with such joy and appreciation that they were performing such a beautiful song. Pure bliss🤗
This has to be the most beautiful duet in history.
A lot of people forget (or don't know) that Glen filled in for Brian Wilson in the Beach Boys when Brian had to quit touring in the mid 60s, so the high-range vocal stuff is his thing. He also played guitar and bass on Pet Sounds.

One of the greatest songs ever by two of the greatest talents ever.
