This is what I miss. Ever since Nashville went teen vote.....Country music has rolled off an assembly line. God bless the imagination, dedication and creative"ness" of music back then that musicians like Jerry Reed and Glenn Campbell made. They poured their hearts and mind into creating and playing the music they did. I will always remember them for their music. And when I die my children will have the burden of dealing with the mountain of a collection of their music I left behind.
Keep on Truckin SNOWMAN!! Move over angels,, We just gonna have to introduce them to th boy!!! RIP God be with your friends and families and fans at this tough time!! Run Blocker for me to get to Heaven!! Son!!
Remember working as a roadie hack for a local equipment rental company in Toronto back in 79 or 80, and we were setting up for Glen at Ontario Place. I had the privilege (unbeknownst to Mr. Campbell, no doubt) of "playing" his top of the line Ovation. On stage he comes a few hours later, with his hand wrapped in bandages. Broken thumb? Sprained wrist? I can't recall....consummate professional and one hell of a player.
unfortunatly I came about Jerry and his Music in late July. His music was in my opinion the best I'd ever heared. when I saw the headline that he had passed I was in utter shock. Now I've realized that it happens and that hes gone to a better place. Hes up there now playin with Johhny and Waylon and I bet there havin a good old time.
I will 2nd that comment Im Yu said. who knew that real music would become an endangered species! So well put. I was a young man in grade school when the Glen Cambell good-time hour was on TV. There was something real in culture going on back in those days - I think they called it the " Generation Gap". Basically young and old people were at War. Old people didn't like the young long hair hippie pot smoking long hairs who listened to rock and roll and young people didn't like the old super conservative old people who listened to Lawrence Welk and country music. So at the time you would have never got me to admit I liked anything but music like Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles. However where could you find me every week this show came on...Glued two feet in front of the TV and I would not miss it for the world. I didn't even give it a 2nd thought that I was listening to the " enemy's" music. All I knew was I loved it. And of course now I love it even more. I am so sad that Jerry ended up like he did. He was so great and Glen too.
Yep, they're both alive alright. Saw Glen live at Glasgow, Scotland last week. 71 years old now but still slim and fit and sings like a dream. He's an awesome guitar player. Get his most recent DVD - Sioux Falls/South Dakota - full orchestra concert. Recorded in 1991 - it's a classic.
Love Glen Campbell and Jerry Reed ... love this version too. But...Denver made me feel like going to West Virginia ..... I live in Eastern Canada! No one can do this song better than JD ...but I will say this is the best cover of the song I heard yet. Peace to all.
All i have to say i was alive when these to entertainers were live, and belive me they put their dues in and did a walk most people will never know, all i can say is thank you lads and the poster for this small portion of my memories
hey these two vets sound pretty good harmonizing...man this was TV..I mean real TV that entertained us week in and week out........music was great too.....ty.....alyagotado
Americans have alot to be proud of, They in entertainemt alone have given my small walk in life some pretty impressive Idols in muisic, But its later on in life where you get to see the old masters Like Chet Atkins With Younger Artists Like Mark Knoffer where you can even across borders and ages, Music has to be the universal constant,
Jerry Reed Hubbard (20 March 1937 1 September 2008), known professionally as Jerry Reed, was an American country music singer, country guitarist, session musician, songwriter, and actor who appeared in over a dozen films. RIP
Jerry isn't weird at all... I met him back in the late 80;s, and it's pretty much part of his stage prescence. He's very down to earth, and one hell of a picker. He taught the guitar player for Diamond Reo to play
Thanks to Grand Theft Audio's soundtrack I'm not only a Jerry Reed fan but the biggest fan of old school country you've ever seen out of Brooklyn. ha ha.
I saw this guy live a few years back. It was an amazing performance inspite of the fact that arthritis is taking its toll on his picking. He can still do it though. Rock on SON!
I first saw this video a week ago. I've been back for more since. I never realised Jerry Reed was so very talented. I think Glen is wrecked on booze, the way he tells Jerry to "Rip it Off!... I'll join in" between songs! lol. Very funny. Doesn't stop him playing and singing like the legend that he is though. God bless that man!
Jerry Reed's frequent appearances on Glen Campbell's show eventually led to Jerry hosting his own six week summer replacement show. Anybody remember summer replacement shows?
Thank you for the post - and can't wait to share w/my man - he plays acoustic bluegrass. Watching Jerry play the intro w/out pick is impressive - and then switching back. And there are few who can just toss a guitar down and pick it back up w/out missing a beat. We miss him already and know that he is playing his heart out and givin' the angels something to giggle to...
x3, Be proud of any of these young artists who get the chance to play with the greats. Mark though didnt he turn country? He did a vid with Chet Lonely boy blues i thinks still on ytube.
musicmikeal has the right idea on the difference between a fiddle and a violin. There is less arch in a fiddle bridge to make it easier to play "double stops" (two strings at a time). Many fiddle tune melodies are noted on one string while a second open string is sounded, creating a "drone" effect (owing to the Celtic origin of many fiddle tunes; think of a melody playing over droning notes as on the bagpipes). Also, to compete with the volume of other bluegrass instruments, fiddles are......
yes its really fucking sad.. the less talented (musicians) i wouldnt call rap music are the fuckinr richest and most appreciated and the reall stuff is gone. Well it motivates me to play even more
Denver never sued Reed or Campbell. All thre appeared on many specials together in the early 70's. All were considered country/pop. And the plane crash story is confused w/ the Waylon Jennings/Buddy Holly legend...which in fact is true.
I loved this show when it was originally broadcast, but I love it even more now.Who knew that real music would become an endangered species?
You are so right about that! All those great music shows were so good, enjoyable and fun! I even love the Lawrence Welk show now! :-)
Truly wonderful reckon they should bring a bunch of this back some good wholesome slow non drama viewing.
Anyone who has seriously plays guitar knows that Jerry Reed was an incredible picker!!!
JR is certainly one of the most versatile performers of our time, not to mention pickin to die for.

I love this version of koko joe. Jerry Reed is a total natural swamp musician.

Jerry Reed was a regular on the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour and he even hosted his own show that was a summer replacement for this one.
Jerry isn't weird at all... I met him back in the late 80;s, and it's pretty much part of his stage prescence. He's very down to earth, and one hell of a picker. He taught the guitar player for Diamond Reo to play
My Favourite Country dude ever...Ivan Collins
This show had some great picking and singing on it. I especially liked these segments where they would sit and play.
This is the most spectacular thing I've ever seen!
Beautiful God bless u all
Great memories as a child to this song.....my daddy used to sing &play his acoustic guitar to this song....and I loved it & still do
Jerry really pushed open the envelope for country. Superb picker and of course hollywood actor back in his hay days
You can tell that during "Country Roads" Jerry is just itching to start rocking out.
Jerry Reed is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These guys were the real deal. Bad-asses.
May we always remember the Talent that is Jerry Reed. I will.

Okay....Gonna Cry....Beautiful!!!
I grew up watching this show--I can't think of Glen without Jerry. What a wonderful video--thank you.

it's amazing how many music artists had variety shows all the way into the late 70s!
do you see that today??
x3, Be proud of any of these young artists who get the chance to play with the greats. Mark though didnt he turn country? He did a vid with Chet Lonely boy blues i thinks still on ytube.
Jerry Reed is Definitly one of the Best!
Just had to love Jerry! Rest in peace!
wow! beautiful version of this
love that song well sung jerry
jerry is gone but glen is still here with us
With the possible exception of Toots and the Maytals', this is the best version of "Take Me Home Country Roads" I've ever heard.
WOW, nice! Jerry, you are missed!
Hopefully ,I'll see it sometime. I'll be looking for it. Thanks!
They were really good together.
RIP Jerry Reed Hubbard (March 20, 1937 September 1, 2008)
Damn I feel old! Love the music still!
You, mate, are SO right.

Awesome!!
Glen Campbell is still alive. He's playing at a festival in Ireland this weekend.
Rest in Peace Jerry...
I'm a West Virginian musician, so that was nice, but I wish one of them would've picked one, haha!
Glen Campbell was a session musician before he got onto a singing career, thats why hes a great guitarist.
fantastic
Dang Good Vidio!
Amazing duo right there
I love this!!!
Possibly the best video on TH-cam
wow..singing a John Denver song too....that just adds to the "classic" lineup here...
These guys are awesome....I love how the "music" starts before they even play...HAHAH
2 Legends gone too soon !!
Just saw this for the first time and that I was wondering. Actually searched down the comments to see if anyone else had said this.
10/10

Talent!
I don't even watch T.V. since I discovered youtube!
bad ass !!! =)
VERY COOL!
Sweet harmonies
3:15 Rip it off ! - Love it .
That's Larry McNeely--a great West Coast Banjo player.
Wow!
that's right!
This is great, Jerry Reed never gets enough credit as a talented musician - probably cause of the cheesy characters he portrayed in movies...
In case nobody's said this...the banjo player is Larry McNeely.
WOOT!
I always thought Jerry looked alot like Frank Gorshin......Could be his son! LOL
Ho Ho... I shouldn't laugh but it's so tragi-comically sad it's almost amusing. How right you are.
this song is good no matter who does it try the music of Gospelpkr
They don't even know Cletus Snow exsist.Oh they don't well move over good buddy we gonna introduce ourselves to the boys.
@xSnoweyexp Don't worry x music is universal, no one owns it and there is an infinite supply.
Denver never sued Reed or Campbell. All thre appeared on many specials together in the early 70's. All were considered country/pop. And the plane crash story is confused w/ the Waylon Jennings/Buddy Holly legend...which in fact is true.
I hear her voice
