@ Josh I actually found this video to check out exactly how much oil you used on your oil change because I’m going to be doing my first oil change on July 3 since taking my car back from my old shop. Looks like 7.5 US quarts. Thank you for all of your help and support on my 98 XJR ! I’ve had it back for just over a month and it was out of my hands for a whopping 1 year 5 months and 2 days. When I got a call from the police about their test driving documentation or lack there of and about how they were hanging their shop plate over my own license plate that was the last straw and I just went and took my car back. My new winter tires seem to have been stolen by staff that were fired and they have yet to be found or reported to police for investigation properly. I literally took my car back and just walked away. So far I’m at a blue coolant top up and a brand new battery. Up to bat is an oil change and to check the front brakes and steering. The oil went dark in less than a month. Going to be running 5w30 Castrol edge full synthetic. I have 7 L ready to deliver to my new shop. I’ll check what 7.5 quarts is in Ls as that is what you seemed to go with. Thank you for seeing me all the way through to the light at the end of the long tunnel, Josh ! :) So happy to have my BLACK LENA back !
I prefer that engine oil too and I think it is also the weight we are using in Canada but some here may go with something thinner. I believe what you put in on this video is what we use in Canada in winter and my car books on the XJR recommend the same.
If I´m not mistaken 20:06 is the outside temperature sensor. You have done a great job on your XJR!Can´t wait to get mine back on the road but it has to rest while we have winter here in Germany.
@ LTG It’s Greg again from up here in Canada. We are almost ready for first start with the new motor in. Finally. They tell me I now own the very last used AJ V8 supercharged in Canada. We may elect to rebuilt the one that came out. I’m using my old Eaton M112 supercharger after all. I’m sorry I couldn’t reply to your last reply back.
i can't remember seeing those inlet tubes on my front bumper when i removed it. i bought it with crash damage so they might be missing. gunno check today. nice to see you're doing basically what i'm doing on mine. i went for jaguar coolant to be on the safe side.
I really enjoyed the video you are super smart Josh, good looking jaguar I just got my first Last year and I am fixing to start working on it mine has a lot of rust on the undercarriage and frame rails I'm going to fix all of these issues and start on the making of the frame.
@LTG Going with 7 L of Castrol 100% full synthetic for the first start. It may be ready by this Friday so they have two days. It’s been in the shop for 8 months as of August 15
@@LowTechGarage hey if I am replacing a cylinder head on the driver side do I still have to lock the camshaft or wouldn't since it will be replaced with another camshaft
@LTG My 1998 Jaguar XJR has a button/switch for an additional secondary front windshield defroster/ heater. Do you know why some have that and why some don’t ? In the book it reads ‘where fitted’ and I checked and mine was definitely fitted with it. Could be that it was originally for the colder climate associated with Canada where it was first purchased on April 8, 1998. ???? I don’t really understand why some have it and some don’t and really what it is for. The floor heater and front windshield defroster seem to work very well on their own. Speed of clearing is all I can think of or If in foggy weather environments where you might get a lot of frosting and fogging ....but then why not all have them?
Really ? Thank you. It is nice to know and interesting. Btw i’m one of those people that doesn’t care about slightly damages or cracked ripped leather but seems like 99.9 % of people do. I feel like it is character. It’s 25 years old. But people tend to want all the leather in the car including the leather seats to be in perfect condition. On the other hand I don’t like it if power functions stop working. Do you still have coolant issues? You have made for more supercharger boost. Added HP Is that all sorted out and perfect now? Also one quick question....When you are driving with a supercharger in this car.....you just push down on the throttle harder and faster to get the supercharger to activate? The more you do it the more it comes on? And that’s all there is to it ?
How are you makimg out. Have a question for for you i just finished putting the VD super 8 back together and noticed you found a green HD belt for your supercharger belt. Would you happen to have the part # so i could locate one where i live in canada. Thanks. Cant wait to try out the car after getting the motor put back together
@L.T.G. Greg here again from up in Canada. Is there a brand of oil and coolant you prefer/recommend for your Jaguar X308 ? I’m going to use a summer weight oil ( as it is now June ) and 100% synthetic. CASTROL oil 100% synthetic is my go to oil on foreign vehicles unless I can learn of something better. I have no idea about coolant.
Hey there, we have always used Mobil 1 with good success, however I am sure your choice of Castrol will also be fine. 100% synthetic is definitely the way to go. As far as coolant. Make sure you are using the right color coolant for the car. You will want to check and see what color your VIN of X308 should be using. It is important to not mix as they can cause gelling in the coolant passages that will impact the cooling abilities. I hope this helps
@ LTG in Florida Thank you for this very timely advice about motor oil and especially about color of coolant used off the VIN so as not to mix. I’ve passed this information on to the Owner of the Shop who has been very very good to me since taking charge of this situation. I’ll remind them again once the motor arrives. It should be here in two days. We will aim to be exacting and careful with both oil and coolant color and type. I’ll remind them that they need this info off the VIN of the 98 XJR this came out of. I just want to thank you very much. You gave me the courage to do this job on my xkr. Never did anything like this before. Greatly appreciated. ❤
Glad I could help. You got this!

Very nervous about it! Not exited anymore at this point .
I’ll be excited again if all goes well, I really doubt they can get it all done by today.
Awesome! Well done on the project, she sounds great! 😎
Thanks a bunch!
