I have been throwing cookies and using very small amount of clay, I really appreciated when you said it was harder to center since your hands are so large. I have the same problem. :)
Vaughn, thank you for putting these videos together, you have taught me the solution to several problems. Teaching basics right along side of more complex forms. (just like my brain works)
@@Vsmithpots I have just discovered your videos. I have been watching a lot of Simon Leach's videos and I find the two of you compliment each other, both talking through different aspects of the same thing. Again, Thank you.
Thanks, my cats are both old and the studio is their retirement home, free from the younger cats at my house, who annoyed them intensely. Stay safe down there.
Thanks Freddie, four just went to Vermont. I just lowered my firing temperature again to 2205F. My recycled clay is bloating and then I remembered my wife has been doing some earthenware pieces, I trimmed them and I think the trimmings are causing the bloating, mixed in with the other clays. There is always something.
@@Vsmithpots Always new Vermont folk had good taste. I sent the lady who knitted Bernie's mittens a sponge holder with mitten's stamped into it. Hoping it arrived safely in one piece. My last test I went too far below and didn't get a ^5 in the test kiln but I will get it soon close to a ^5. Will be working on another die tomorrow for my 4" extruder that I am hoping will give me a 90mm cylinder.
does the off centre bat put you off? it would me. I've been watching your videos and find them interesting and informative Vaughan. Thank you I love my shimpo whisper :)

My wife says I talk too much so I edit out a lot. So much to say and so little time.

...and you, by far, explain centering best. That is including all the youtube potters.
@@michaelnied6792 Your welcome, I met Simon's father 30 years ago.
@@Vsmithpots I am defiantly going to try out your technique of the wet trimming the feet of glasses and mugs.
Well done! Great ideas you're sharing. Could listen to you all day!

I have 6 furry helpers. Thanks for watching
I have a cat that is either 19 or 20 years old :-)
Morandi is 15 and Ploubelle is 11, Morandi still plays like a young cat. They are good studio cats.
they look better than the ones i made for xmas.
As Simon says" keep practising". Finding time is often the issue.

I never even notice the bat, I think I go by feel more than sight.
Hi Vaughan is it a mdf bats that you use to throw your pièces. Thanks for your answer.
My cats left paw prints on my platters..Sold everyone!
I also had customers start to ask for ones with cat marks. It is like the Mexican pottery with chicken feet prints, meant to be good luck.
Lol he thinks you’re talking only to him
Whenever I skype someone he always comes over.
Ty for your video. What clay did you use?
I used Laguna #80 stoneware red.
@@Vsmithpots I use #75 which is similar I’ll have to give it a try oven wise.
@@theferalhousewife-knitting5145 So #75 is oven proof too?
@@Vsmithpots according to the chart here it seems so. 4e1a0199-e3cb-4bc6-9d1a-f62c39960aec.filesusr.com/ugd/e5330f_e932d6d4f0da494eb46f5695b9df9bd1.pdf
@@theferalhousewife-knitting5145 I might try the #70 in the next order, it may be better in the gas kiln.
What type of clay should i use to make the bowls oven safe?
Thank you for sharing your expertise.
If you are in North America, Laguna has a web site that gives the clay specs and shows which ones are oven safe.
@@Vsmithpots Thank you I will check with my clay supplier. They get Laguna clay.
