I have been reluctant to try lidded jars in the past and even though I have. watched multiple videos from others, yours is by far the best and I may even try one in the next few days. Video started out on a sunny spring day and ended in a chilly blustery day - regardless what it's like outside you bring a friendly warmth to the studio and homes of those who watch. Thank you for the information, time and care you take making these videos. I have seen photos of honey pots with the dipper attached to the center of the lid and you use the knob to lift - (whole up the into the knob from under the lid and attached). I don't think I would like using it but does solve the issue of ants and the whole. Although one would need to find a source of honey sticks with out the end wooden knob or cut them off to fit adding more time to the process. 🤷♀️. 🌺🐝
What more could I ask for : Toasted oat cereal w/banana and blueberries added. 7 grain Italian bread from the Publix bakery smeared with Dundee marmalade, mug of Typhoo tea. All the while watching a video from LaHave Nova Scotia with a bunch of good pointers and a really good demo. Cheers and be well Vaughan...Freddie
Thanks Freddie. You are probably safer down there than here now. Our Covid numbers have exploded. I fired the gas kiln today for the first time in 2021. I will post a video early next week, mostly planters. I did try crash cooling the kiln from 2200F to 1900F, first time I have done that.
Fingers crossed on the crash cooling. I doubt about the safety when we have a governor who declares that all requirements for mask wearing are not required. Luckily a good number of stores are requiring masks and explaining to customers that they are following CDC guidelines. Some folk don't realize that getting the vaccines does not stop you from coming in contact with the virus and spreading it, so they don't see the need for the masks. It looks like the edges are not glazed anyway, so I would be grateful for any further clarification. Also, is there a way to see the sides and insides of the glazed lids? (Apologies if I am being obnoxious... The heat in my studio has made my head spin with the wheel... : )
The lids are glazed all over and fired on stilts under them. The clay body can go to cone 8 so it does not warp at cone 6. No problem. If you can send me an email I will send a photo back of the lids.
Hi Vaughan...when you fire these, do you use aluminum hydrate (mixed with China clay or not) to keep the lid from sticking to the body? I have yet to, but I find that the lid will chip and the chip be a permanent addition to the galley of the body even though there is no glaze touching. Please reply Regards
I fire the lids on stilts separate from the body, most of the time. I do on occasion fire them on the body but I wax the edges that touch when I do that. I think your clay body may be fluxing, causing it to stick. thanks for watching.
You need a pet ant eater. We have cats and they eat anything that crawls across the floor, then they look around wondering what happened to it. What a great place to live. I assume there is always a sea breeze and 25C-30C every day. What's the clay like over there?

Just remember the lids almost always need trimming down a little to fit with a little extra space to allow for glaze build up in the shelf area.

Do you mean the Giffin Grip? It centers the pot automatically.
